Hey Peter (and fellow subscribers), here are a few extra tips: 1. 06:13 You don't have to NEST clips when using multiple effects. Instead you can use an Adjustment layer on top of the layer you want the effect applied to. This way you can see the keyframes (and visual ramps) in the same timeline. 2. 07:20 If you do NEST, add MARKERS where your keyframes are inside your NEST sequence. MARKERS will be visible in the (sequence)clip where the nested sequence is used. IMPORTANT: Add markers to the SEQUENCE TIMELINE and NOT TO THE CLIP. De-select the clip and start adding markers. 3. Instead of using Directional Motion Blur (and keyframing it), try using Pixel Motion Blur (or a plugin called ReelSmartMotionBlur) which creates the motion blur according to the pixel data in the footage almost automatically when speed ramping occurs. Just set the parameters to your liking and you are good to go (sure in some cases a bit of a tweak here-and-there might be necessary). Sure this effect might create some weird artifacts if the footage is complex, but if the footage is fast - you can't notice them during playback. -Joonas

The tutorial is over you have nothing left to say but pure randomness (who wants to see more magic tricks) and it's purley just "you" ... can't thank you enough for that interaction
I didn't know I needed this. Speedramped the CRAP out of an Instagram story yesterday, should've known about this because now I know exactly what it was that still bothered me about the clips! Love it!
I shoot on my Sony A7II, edit it in Premiere Pro, AirDrop it to my iPhone, use an app called Continual to cut the video up into 15sec segments, and then upload those individually to the Story!
Another INSANELY HELPFUL tutorial. Now I know how to speed ramp properly! Was always just doing a cut, speeding up the part and cut, speeding back down. This looks so much better now. I keep learning stuff the more I watch you, your channel is just a massive chunk of inspiration-meets-knowledge content. Dzięki! (that's Polish for Thanks!)
Hey Peter! If you want to have a visual indicator of your speed ramping keyframes, double click and open your nested sequence. In your nested sequence (the one with the speed ramped footage), add markers ("M" is the default shortcut) at the same points as your speed ramping keyframes. When you go back to your main sequence, those markers will show up on your nested sequence as clip markers.
TiP: Instead of nesting, just use an adjustment layer where you want the blur on your speed ramp. This let's you still see the speed ramp curves to precisely place the blur. Just drag the blur effect into the adjustment layer. This also allows you to go back and make easier adjustments to your speed ramp if needed..
I like how you were describing the 80 : 20 rule. 20% of what you do makes 80% of the impact in your work. Sometimes you do a lot of work but it only gives a 20% impact.
You are the GOAT Peter! Thanks for everything that you are doing to teach us all to be better creators. If you are ever in Orlando...Coffee is on me!!!
Just a quick tip to save you a few seconds, don't bother keying the direction of the blur. Set it to your desired direction and leave it there. Control the effect with the blur length only, otherwise you'll get a rotation of the blur angle during the key transition.
I watch a tonne of editing tuts and I have to honestly say, as soon as I hear your voice I immediately smile cos I know it’s gonna be 🔥🔥. Keep up the awesome stuff Peter! 👍
another way to do this blur effect is by using frame blending on a ramped up clip. Just razerblade around the area you want to speed up, right-click that clip, go to time interpolation, then select frame blending, and voila! same exact effect, much quicker workflow.
PRO TIP: you can have EXACT time, where u have ur blur by adding mark in the nested sequence in the place where u have ur speedramp. Going back u only have the marker on the clip ;)
Thank you Peter....what a guy...what knowledge and moreover...its on his face that he genuinely wants people to learn these things...what a helpful person...God bless you
Another way I use to get simulated motion blur is to dynamic link the speed ramp clip into After Effects. There, use timewarp effect, keep the speed setting at “100” then enable motion blur. Set the “shutter control” to manual and keep it at 180 for natural motion blur!

Great tut, as always - thanks for that. One tip to speed up the search for the blur effect (don't know if someone in the 1.658 comments mentioned it) : double click of the nested clip, go to the beginning/end of the speed ramp and press "M" to set a mark. These markers are visible in the nested layer above. Pretty easy to find, no scrolling through the scene is necessary.
Awesome Tip! Side note, for those who use the “Speed Duration” option to speed up clips, if you right click on that clip and choose time interpolation - frame blending, it essentially does the same thing. Anywho, Have a Nice Day!

Oskar Nöbauer If you already have a JPG/PNG/GIF of your black bars, you can ease them in by scaling them up to around 134% and then keyframing them down to 100%
Actually you can do that by when you set the crop on the first clip you want to see the bars in, you will use the stop watch there too! Then you just add crop to the rest of the clips
Just take a adjustment layer and give it the "crop" effect, then change the effect settings to crop top and bottom about 13%... There you have it, Cheers :)

Another fantastic video! A few quick time savers if you don't mind... Adding a custom bin in your effects panel for all of your most used effects saves you from having to search for the effect every time you need it. Massive time saver there. You can also double-click an effect and it will automatically apply it to a selected clip. For some reason it only works with efects and not presets though.
