My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

The problem with extension cords is they only make them in two sizes- too long and too short😋
I had a 50' or 75' that I cut down into about 1/3 and 2/3.
Regarding cooking bacon, by adding water, to start, enough to cover bacon , allowing bacon to cook until the water is gone, then start flipping , this gets the fat rendered from bacon while fully cooking bacon , this method keeps bacon from splattering grease everywhere, once tbe water evaporates, the bacon browns nicely. From a great grammie in florida , learned this tip years ago, also by slicing bacon in the package in half, & cooking the half slices , a big fry pan is not necessary & the other half of pack not used , is easier to store in same pack, folded up & stowed in a zip lock.

Hi Matthew. I could tell you were tired because you were dragging your left foot while filling your heater. Also you could be reacting to your new bed. I've heard they sometimes let off gasses when they are new. Maybe that's why you only feel bad laying down. No matter what it is I'm hoping you feel better soon.😊

You might consider cooking on the other pop up counter near the door. It’s away from your bed.

I know we wanna stay positive, I am. However, few realize the pain anguish that you are living with. I love your content, I am full time Van lifer 5 yrs. Matthew if you make more bacon than you need, you can always put the leftovers in the ziplock and just reheat it quickly when you want to use it and make more meals while cooking it once…just a suggestion 🤷🏼♀️ …guess you can tell I hate cooking bacon 🥴…love to eat it though 😉
I LOVE using my induction cooktop in the summer when I don't want to add more heat to my rolling home. In cold months, I want a flame to both cook and add warmth.

Suggestion - pick up a screen or mesh lid for frying to help contain grease splatters. Walmart offers a Mainstay 2 (in large and medium sizes) piece set in Usa for $8.88. Just a thought. BTW, Great kitchen cooking cubicle!! 👍 Happy coincidence! 😋?

I cut the bacon in half with scissors and put the other half in baggie! I would probably cook the bacon over on the flip up table by the door to keep the grease off the bedding.

For the nose and the snot get Tylenol Cold and Sinus Extra Strength. Take two. It will clear out the snot and keep it clear for about 8 to 10 hours. It’s how I deal with my allergies in the spring.

If I buy bacon to cook at Walmart I cut the package in half and put half in a Ziplock bag in the freezer. Right now I buy a pack of cooked bacon since I'm alone.

I don’t know much on building but, your door to the electrical section seems to be too long and looks like it is bowing in the middle. Do you need a strut in the middle or some kind of support? What kind of main meal was that? Looked yummy! Brooklyn I’m sure is glad to have daddy back in town…as you are quality content in her life. Love Penny always.😊😊

Hi Matthew, I really enjoy watching your videos. I have learned a lot watching you making your van home comfy. I'm starting to get my tool box equipped with the tools I should have.
You should drill an access hole to pull the cord through the side of the board by the strut that lifts it up so you don’t have to have the bed sit on top of the cord and bend it the cord you should get like a mechanic little chair with wheels that spins in 360😂

Matthew, I suspect you've developed a pollen allergy. It's spring and the tree pollen has been really bad this year here in the States. Get an antihystimine nasel spray (i.e. Flonase) and use it before bed. Should help keep you from getting stuffed up and improve your sleep.

Temp fluctuations does wreak havoc with some people.
It was mid 80s°F in the beginning of the week and dropped down to 40-60 later on, making some of my relatives sick 😷

Hello Matthew and Penny. Two things. Loved Fall Out, and I'm an old lady! Watched the kids playing the game. The other thing is, I cook a whole package of bacon at a time, for the bacon grease. Then bag it up for sandwiches and salads. That way I only have to clean up the grease spray once. #boxvanlife. They have splatter screens at the dollar store too. Love your mellow days. You can make everything entertaining.

A piece of wood as thin as possible so not to loose to much space. Wedged by 2 flat corner brackets. I'm sure you'll figure it out if you haven't already lol.
I know all to well what you mean about getting settled in again. I live it every spring as I move to the trailer from basecamp and still also part-time in the van all four seasons.

It's not relevant for vanlife but I do bacon in the oven. Comes out great and less messy lol.

I'm gonna give your breakfast burrito idea a go, that looks yummy. I've been using an induction stove for 4 yrs now, best thing ever, 2 tips, just in case, the stove needs to run on power until the fan stops, then you need to either turn off AC or unplug as it will continue to use about 180W.

I have the same induction stove in my van which I prefer to use inside of the van rather than gas because it’s safer and they’re cheap to use
