@@jenniferrollison4377 sorry but most income tax is only for the servicing of the interest on the national debt ..property taxes cover the rest except roads which is the excise tax on gas … I’m very well versed on the Canadian tax system 99 percent of Canadian people have never even read the various acts a statues … let alone the statue law revision act of 1893…. My father in law was a provincial revenue minister and mother in law was with revenue Canada …. Most do not have a clue how it goes down and trust me for the money collected … the people get Pennie’s on the dollars ….

But there is no punishment. None at all. Part of preventing crime is actually hold people accountable for their behaviour so they can’t do it over and over

if they actually go deal with East Hasting and count those toward the crime rate....then you will see. VPD sitting around doing nothing, ignoring crimes then crime rate is low.

We don't need higher police spending. We don't need cops with tanks or military equipment. We don't need a police state. We need to fix the systemic problems in our society of poverty and homelessness which would be far more effective then simply slapping handcuffs on everyone.
Things are getting economically worse all over the world each day and being poor and simply existing is becoming a crime. Interest rates have exploded, infaltion continues to skyrocket as the price of goods keeps getting higher and higher and as a result people can't afford to shop much anymore which is in turn causes even more economic collapse.
You can't fix a bursting dam by slapping a peice ot tape on it with the word "police" on it, you have to address the issues at their root to have long term fixes.
They increase the amount of immigrants doing policing then start to decrease the wage

In my city it's not uncommon to arrest the same person 3 times in a single 12hr shift. It's honestly scary what our country has turned into.
You want to save money on police by putting more ppl in jail? It's over $115,000 per year to keep one person in jail. You probably aren't saving money.

And maybe if you actually knew anything about Vancouver, you'd know that for the past 5 years, city council has been a majority of NPA members, NPA is a conservative executive run local party. Just before this past recent election in Vancouver, the current mayor and multiple members split from the NPA and created ABC, which still has a conservative ideology. The majority of the council now are ABC members including Mayor Sim. The police also endorsed ABC this past election. While the NPA was in city council, all they did was approve luxury developments and exchanged zoning permits to those luxury developers for hundreds of millions of dollars in amenities for rich neighborhoods, instead of investing it into the poorer neighborhoods and building affordable housing. And then not to mention 25% of drug addicts in Vancouver come from Alberta (a stat published by Vancouver Sun and Daily Hive), conservatives ship their addicts and homeless people to Vancouver. It's conservative ignorance that is causing crime to increase.

I would suggest CTV Vancouver to use a more neutral way of reporting issues. "Taxpayers to foot ballooning VPD budget" is unnecessarily sensationalized. Very disrespectful to the police officers who serve our community.

I lived in Vancouver for 25 years and as far as completely crappy police forces go, Vancouver is damn near to the top. Useless.
If we want trained professionals who work under difficult conditions keeping our community safe, we need to pay them accordingly, especially in this era of inflation. Police officers need to be supported to do their jobs properly.

The US FBI arrested the people involved in Chinese police stations stateside. Canada has done nothing, as far as I know..
