NASCAR Grand National races were held here until 1971, but in the late 90s they felt like they outgrew places like Hickory, North Wilkesboro, South Boston, and Myrtle Beach. Each of these fine short tracks were replaced on the calendar by superspeedways that haven't drawn a (original) capacity crowd in a decade.
Awesome race.
Last Busch Series race at this track. But it is still being used in the lower divisions. Glad the track is still around. Lot of history there.
the 42nd & final race in the then Busch division at Hickory going back to the first year of competition of this series
And the 1st NASCAR on TNN event to use this... 1:03
It's a shame that Glenn Jarrett never got a booth gig, he was always really fun to listen to as a pit reporter.
He did a few truck races back then
Loved this track
You can see that car turn down into the pits at speed but hard to see him hit the pit wagon and knock the guy off around 1:30:35
I could use some Dr. Pepper now! LOL
After all these years I still cannot for the life of me figure out why TNN replaced Mike Joy with Eli Gold.
Mike was doing other things. That simple. And he still did TNN work in 98.
Wow I didn’t know nascar raced at hickory

@@NotSteveCook to be fair, Hickory had inadequate facilities
@@AlonsoRules it’s pretty wild that hickory outlasted north wilkesboro
