A sweet story about my mother and homeplace! I remember Momma writing the book...sitting beside her bed, writing and rewriting and tossing the rough drafts on the floor. And, yes, we did travel to St. Augustine in our Volkswagen after someone had stolen our big Cadillac. We took an iron with us and brought back oranges. Only our brother Buzz stayed home to take care of the house and shop. We had a wonderful childhood! We moved there in 1955. Jon is still creating fabulous gardens in Lexington and Louisville area. Momma's last book was 'A Beautiful Journey', telling some of childhood memories and memories living there on the banks of the Rockcastle River. Baby sister Betsy is quite the writer as well. We are fortunate to have her write about our childhood memories in 'River Raised, Appalachian Stories of My Life on the Rockcastle River'. Thank you Granny Pat for speaking so sweetly about our precious and beautiful Momma.
I see Billie called you. I wanted you to see my story…for your approval. Thanks for responding. I wrote as I remembered. I knew my viewers would love the story. I met Betsy at the garden shop about 2 yrs ago.
That is really a remarkable story. The odds are so astronomical! Now I want to share a little, actually brag just a little about my grandchild. We call her Pie. Well I told you all a while back I have cancer and she takes care of me. She made me such a delicious soup today I just love it. She started with a boneless skinless chicken thigh, added onions sautéed with ginger purée in a little olive oil, a half can of chopped spinach, a half can of chopped artichokes, a whole can of diced tomatoes, a half can of chopped mushrooms, garlic powder, and salt and pepper. Now everything has to be chopped because grandma threw out half her teeth while in the hospital! But that soup is just amazing tasting and so good for me. God bless her and anyone that read my ramble. Love you all here!
Just think how good the soup would have been with Grandma’s teeth! HA! I have an extra ‘flipper’ never worn, if you can use it!!! What is life without a bit of laughter?
What a wonderful story! Isnt it amazing that some meals, tastes and smells that have such an impact on us that we can remember it clearly over 50 or more years later. Im so glad you had this encounter!
Loved this story. Isn't it interesting how life gives us surprises. You picked up a book not knowing who the author was and it turned out to be someone who lived in the same house as you. Amazing! Looking forward to another story. Take care Granny Pat.
That is amazing, all the coincidences. Such a great story. I can't even imagine something like that happening now days. I am fascinated at how much you have been able to keep through the years. Our family moved so much through the yrs and many items have been lost in moves, a fire, etc. Its sad really. My great grandmother Esther quilted everyone a quilt out of their old clothes. My generation was the last ones to receive one. One time, in 5th grade, I was in my room with my light on and it suddenly fell over and the bulb shattered. The next thing I saw were large flames. By instinct, I tossed my quilt on it and ran out to get help. My brother came running in to find my shattered bulb on the floor. There was no fire but it had left a singed hole in my blanket. It felt like she was there, protecting me. Many yrs later, through some issues in a long distance move, after I was married, my quilt disappeared. It aches when I think about it but I suppose I had it when I needed it. Your family is very blessed that you have kept such good care of so much and for the stories you have been logging. There are times that I find myself wanting to ask my momma something about family or history but I cannot because she passed away last August after having dementia for 5+yrs. Covid got her. So many stories have passed away with the generation that experienced them. I really enjoy hearing yours...it makes me feel closer to my momma.😊
Good morning from new zealand its angela again im annoyed with myself i had a marvelous muffin recipe and id lost it could uses blueberries or banana or anything really ive seen lots of recipies in other cooking books but just cant seem to make them as good as i used too and another moan i have the cost of living has shot up here and the cost to homebaking has also risen very sad still being eightyone i do have to cut down on the goodies haha l love your stories makes me remember so many things id fogotten about
I love watching your videos you relax me, I love your storytime, your a wonderful lady keep it up with your wonderful videos and I also love to watch you cook in your cute kitchen I love your kitchen, I always picture myself in your kitchen watching you cook listening to your clock tick, I also find the clock ticking soothing thanks for keeping me at peace 🕊️
Its always a delight to listen to you could spend the whole day listening to your stories ,I treasure all your programs,it's so good of you to share them thank you so much.
Hi Pat! I just discovered your channel! Enjoying every video! I thought of you when I was reading Proverbs 24 today and verse 3: By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. ❤
Oh Granny your chats and cookin videos always warm my heart and make me think of my dear grandma and my mother also who both loved cooking and baking . But they are both gone now to a happier place. You make the madness of the world disappear and I disappear into your ever so humble life. Thank you for inviting us into your home for a bit☺️😊❤️🌸🌺💐🕊
I always say there are no such things as coincidences. How you came to procure that book at a Good Will, and then to meet the author and the connection with the house you both shared at different times. wonderful story and I love that color on you. Raising a toast to your Dr. Pepper and fingers crossed for some cool A/C in that car soon.
Hi Granny Pat! I really, really enjoy your stories, and I think you are very interesting. Congratulations on your book, and on having lots of subscribers.
I loved the story. You and Lucille were destined to meet. So glad you met and became great friends that shared practically the same childhood memories. I think God put you two together.
I absolutely love listening to you. I’m 52 and my mom is 85. She doesn’t have stories. She’s got early stages of dementia and she just simply doesn’t remember much at all other than her daily routine. 😢
I would enjoy hearing about the games you & your siblings played, long term food storage, homeopathic remedies your family used, and music you & your family enjoyed...please and thank you.
That covers a lot of territory. We were a simple family, my grandparents were farmers, they knew everything there was to know about things that grew in the soil. My mother was taught all of the home remedies and she used many of them. In winter we kids created our own indoor games. I was always into crafts, making something from nothing. My older brother had musical talents, played instruments. A sister played the piano and was a soloist. Won music awards in high school. My parents listened to the Grand Ol Opry every Saturday night. We did little traveling, except to visit aunts/uncles in nearby towns. Sounds pretty boring, doesn’t it?
@chitchatwithgrannypat7900 To me, it sounds fascinating. I enjoy listening about bygone eras. My oldest patient is 105 yrs old. He was in The Blitz in England during WWII. He tells me how they buried cabbage in soil in root cellars, wrapped apples/pears, braided garlic & onions for long-term storage. I'm almost 50 & I didn't know this info. I know generations younger than me don't. I believe we are going to need it again. 🙂 My patient tells me about his mom making comfry salves, catnip tea for colic, jewel weed for poison ivy, mustard poultice for fever. I try to learn as much as I can. I enjoy all of your conversations. 🙂
It is 8:07 on a Saturday night. Hello Miss Pat. I wanted to let you know how much I love listening to you watching you especially on your collecting of dishes. I love watching you when I’m trying to go to sleep because you have such a soothing voice and it helps me relax. My name is Jean Peludat and I love you and your stories
What a fun story! I have a similar story - my mother figured out that she had worked with the mother-in-law of a friend of mine years ago at Kodak. Small world!
Granny Pat ,I just love how you found the cookbook at the goodwill ❤ Nice book I will say Then to meet the wonderful lady who wrote the book and lived in the home you did 😊 how amazing is that ! They always say its a small world 🤗 Thank so much for sharing blessings from Florida 🙌🌴🌴🌹
I love your stories as well as your recipes. I couldn't help but notice the cameo ring you are wearing in the video. My Mother-in-law had a cameo necklace and ring she bought as a young woman. Before she died my husband asked her if she would give me the cameo ring and she gladly did. She died in 2005 at the age of 92. The lady in my cameo ring is wearing a gold necklace with a heart pendant and it has a tiny diamond in it. I treasure the ring and still wear it on occasion.
Oh my goodness, I just discovered you. How I enjoy your stories. You are so precious. I have sat for 2 days listening to you. Luckily I didn’t have anything pressing that I had to do. You remind me so much of my sweet mom & her only sister who are neither with us any longer. Please keep telling your stories & I’ll keep listening.❤️
I like your story today. For some reason it brought back memories from my childhood when my Parents took us on road trips for our summer school breaks. We would stop in small towns to eat breakfast or lunch in "Mom & Pop cafes". Sweet Memories😔
Thank you Pat, what a great story to relax to. 👌 in bed, dog by my side. Worked at my lovely part-time job at a Senior living facility. Busy evening as some apartments had their cable not working x2 days 🥴. 1st cataract surgery tomorrow morning. I am 67. Good night Pat, from Minnesota Miki
I just watched your video, and I will be going back and watching all of your videos. So I subscribed. I’m now 71 years young. You are adorable, you remind me of my mother❣️

I have the same story of meeting someone who lived in an historic home I once lived in. My Dad piled 4 kids into the VW, and we all wore "The Devil Made Me Do It" t-shirts lol Your stories are so awesome, and make me remember my own childhood and life. Love to you !! Keep telling your stories-They make many people happy!
Loved your story. Reminded me of my friend from 7th grade. One day she was talking about her grandmother and going to a church called Fort Perry Baptist Church. Her grandmother was related to my grandfather's side of the family (I never knew that side). Anyway, my friend was actually my second cousin.
