      Here's the rawest OG truth you young cats need to understand... Jay is a much better "entertainer," NAS is a much better "rapper"... If you dont understand that, then you haven't done your homework as a hip-hop fan. .02

      He didn't want no smoke. He made this AFTER he got Ethered and he's mad emotional. He said " I set the bobby trap just to see dude react," and then he says " I gave you life when niggaz forgotten you mceed," REALLY?.. So you set a trap to see how he's going to react, and then said you gave him breath, lol! And then he's bragging about being philanthropic, Nas has mad causes but he doesn't brag. Jay also says " when the grass is cut the snakes would show," no nigga.....YOU was feeling yourself and you tried to come at the best rapper of all time.You heard him say " I will not lose for even in defeat," meaning....." I lost but I'm still winning. Not to mention that Jay came at Nas with "SONGS.' Takeover was a SONG, Blueprint 2 is a SONG, Nas just responded with formatted freestyles. Had Nas wrote a SONG about Jay, I wouldn't be surprised if Jay really cried. This nigga Jay said " Like you sneaking out the back of the source sound lab." LMFAO!! Jay don't even believe that shit happened. Lok! Jay is funny as hell, cunning AF, but funny!

      @Devin Burkett in NY, we can tell a lot about someone based on if their a Nas fan, or jay fan, and your the perfect example of it. Well.....I don't think you're from NY so your just corny around the board.

      people hated it really? I was listening to this song on my tablet and reading the comments and I had to turn on my laptop to comment, knowing full well JZ doesn't know I exist, doesn't give a damn about me, a billionaire with a beautiful woman, but when I see comments that are no good I feel I have to defend him - it's not trash, it's definitely not as good as the blueprint (which is his best album I think) but it has songs like meet the parents (which I'm glad you mentioned) 'some people hate' 'Guns and roses' 'poppin tags' 'my way' and 'a dream' are okay and I know there is more but I haven't listened to this album properly in about 15 years!!
      'The Watcher 2', listen to these songs again with lyrics if necessary. @dot98 commented below and said it is 'legit trash'

    I think ether is better, but I’m always coming back to this song. Jay was spitting facts and prophesying. Years later Nas was on Jayz record label. Become a giant so the little ones have no choice, but to fall and join you.

    This response was genius in that it solidified that Jay won any "beef war" even if you thought someone's diss track was better than his. He raised the stakes by pointing out the undeniable hypocrisy of his rivals and exposing how small these rivals/critics are compared to what REAL contributions Jay makes towards actual issues.
    After this, it was pointless to keep going at Jay because you realized you're not roasting a rapper. You're childishly bashing major player whose impacting change in your society. Imagine Nas trying to make fun of Jay's lips or how he got into the rap game after hearing this. It would be redundant and would fall on deaf ears. That's likely what Jay meant by "Y'all fell into the booby trap. I set the trap just to see dude react". And as we saw, it was Nas who conceded a few years later without any response to Jay.

    After seeing several video’s about this battle I finally realize what Jay meant when he said “when the grass is cut then the snakes will show I gotta thank the little homie nas for that tho… saved me the hassle of speaking to half of these as.h…s and I’m let karma catch up with Jaz-O”…. Half of the “facts” that people say nas was spittin was given to him by Jaz-O and Jay knew this which is why ether caught him off guard. Jay was thinking the whole time… who is the traitor in my camp that gave him this info because nas could not have know this on his own. This is why Jay says “they tried to help him cheat… but even in defeat there’s a valuable lesson learned so it evens it up for me”. This is also why Jay is saying in the beginning of this song “Jay-Z won’t hold my hand no more.” He’s talking about Jaz-O and how dude kept whining about Jay not helping him out more.
    I always thought take over and super ugly were both better diss records than ether but to find out that nas got help from a traitor to Jay’s camp makes nas look real desperate and real fake for using that info.

    • @ayomideolawale4528
      @ayomideolawale4528 2 года назад +1

      @@airpegasus5167 that might be the case but it was not reflected in either Take over or Supa Ugly. Cormega didn’t give Jay info on Carmen’s insides… he didn’t give Jay info on Nas’ record sales or his status in the game at that time because the majority in the industry at that time felt like Nas had fallin’ off. He didn’t give Jay info about being a model for Karl Kani during the hardest era of hip hop. But then again maybe he gave him the info about Nas sneaking out of the back of the source sound lab or the fact that Nas called himself Esco but never put in work on the streets like that…

    Great track I remember hearing it back in the day. Honestly though this was him pleading to the people because he took a schlacking. Felt kind of like he was throwing in the towel on the battle in favor of the war. When he actually signed Nas I think it was to give himself a sone sort of mental victory. One of the top rap beefs on wax of all time.
