  • Even though animation has always been an intensive process, it’s never been easier to find a program that you like and to start animating. In today's video, I'm challenging myself to create a frame-by-frame character animation using only Procreate on the iPad Pro!

      @@boomahc7109 hopefully it's not too late but no, you can't draw on iPad with XP-Pen pen. If you're going to draw on it you need to buy an Apple Pencil. I heard a great deal about Adonit pens for iPad too so I would suggest you to look into that as well.

    When I use the animate feature in Procreate I wish there was a setting to have a back ground layer throughout the whole gif.

      There's the toggle background color option, otherwise yeah you'd have to duplicate the background and include it with each frame in a group.

    Wonderful video as always! I do have a couple questions though:
    1) Do you find it easier to have a smoother animation if the pressure sensitivity is turned off? Like, if there were no line variations? I would imagine it would matter more so on a more complex animation, but I'd like to know your thoughts.
    2) [This is a question more relevant to your previous to "Arms" videos] How would limb design play within a restrictive art style? I'm thinking of the Peanuts comic strip, for example. Almost every character there has the same arm design (except for Snoopy and Woodstock), so is the style itself playing off of the information you provided? Basically, how do you differentiate individual characters when they are all so anatomically similar within a certain art style (I'm sure clothing and hair has a ton to do with this, but I'm wondering if a character's body structure/proportions could as well)
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi! I dont know if you could help about it but:
    Im on the last grade of highschool and if I get enough points on an university exam I'll study on a animation department in uni. There is already a Wacom lab in that uni but Im wondering if buying an iPad pro would be a good decision since I want some kind of personel computer to both drawing, animating and using for daily life.
    So would you recommend iPad pro?
    Would it help me to practice animation and other personel stuff such as browsing, taking notes, seeing files etc.?
    Also can't we transfer files, videos on ipad to any windows computer?
    Sorry if this comment is too long and if my Eng is broken. Im foreign.

    great animation! wondering if you think there is a big difference in
    drawing area between the 11 and 12.9 inch ipad pro (intended use for art
    and animation)? Also wondering what storage size you would recommend
    for animation (is the base line 128 GB enough, or is 256 or 512 GB
    better?)

    • @prysis3959
      @prysis3959 3 года назад

      128 is definitely enough!! There isn’t a huge difference so go with your preference in the size. 12.9 is exactly like paper as it’s the same size, but 11 is more power saving. I’d assume 11 inch is easier to transport, but with 12.9 it fits nicely into a medium backpack if that’s what you’re worried about

    I really wish you had shown how to export it into Unity! D:
    I want to do hand-drawn animations for my game, but if I have to save each PNG as their own frame every time I want to export an animation, then it'll be too time-consuming.
    I tried the other exporting options, but nothing seems to make your animation into PNG layers. Maybe I've overlooked something.
    How did you solve this Brooks?

    One biggest draw back of procreate animation tool - unlike FlipaClip where you get 6 layers for each frame to work on. Procreate gives you only one layer to work on for every frame. This can be annoying for animators like me who choreograph action scenes that needs more layers to add effects

    • @CharacterDesignForge
      @CharacterDesignForge  4 года назад

      Groups are treated like frames, so you could have more than 6 even if you grouped the layers.

    • @SaffireAnimation
      @SaffireAnimation 4 года назад

      Brookes Eggleston - Character Design Forge
      Understood but my point was from using multiple layers on a single frame. How would you do that on procreate? For example when you hit the hammer on rod (in your animation) i want to show a striking effect on a separate layer, so that if in case I just have to modify/delete that striking effect later, my original art work remains as is. This feature can only be achieved if I have a separate layer for that last frame when the hammer is striking the rod. I hope you understood my question...pardon me for my poor english.

    • @CharacterDesignForge
      @CharacterDesignForge  4 года назад +1

      This video is from before the animation tool was even really integrated into Procreate. I’ve made multiple videos since then about the official animation assist. Again, grouping the layers will play them back as a single frame. You could have the character art as one layer, and the strike as a second layer, and grouped up together they would play simultaneously. It’s an established feature!

    • @SaffireAnimation
      @SaffireAnimation 4 года назад

      Brookes Eggleston - Character Design Forge
      Oh ok i havent tried grouping...let me try. If it works it will make my job easy, as I have been trying to achieve what I want to achieve in an extremely difficult manner.
