  • Hera is enjoying a peaceful morning at South Cape May Meadows...until a red-winged blackbird shows up! Male red-winged blackbirds are known for being territorial during breeding season, which happens to align with osprey breeding season (early spring to late summer).
Red-winged blackbirds (RWBB) act aggressive towards birds, other animals, and sometimes even humans when they perceive them as a threat. During breeding season, male RWBBs may spend a quarter of their day defending their territories. Our best guess is this male RWBB is nesting nearby and perceives Hera as a threat!
