- The Alienware m18 is one of the best RTX 4080 gaming laptops out there, priced at $2599 over at Best Buy. It has a 4.5 star rating at Best Buy and deservedly so.
That being said it isn't without its issues and it needs some tweaks to make it work at its best which I cover in this video.

Fabulous informative video! But to be honest this is probably much more than I need. I'm just a "casual" player but I love seeing the advances they continue to make with laptops. Thanks Stephen!
Thanks Greg! Yes, it's amazing how much laptops have advanced in just a few years! Hope all is well with you.
Great video! I am not well at the moment, I will learn carefully after my recovery
Thanks. Get better soon! 🙏
I do think that this M16 is one of the best value RTX 4080 laptops out there, especially if you want an SD card reader, windows hello with 1080p webcam and advanced optimus. I have the MSI GE78HX and GT77HX coming next as well as the new Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 with the R9 7945HX + RTX 4080 arriving soon . Make sure to sub up to catch the first look videos and in-depth reviews!

I love that you use battlefield to test temps+power. Really good bench marker!
Thanks! Yes, Battlefield pushes the laptop hard. One of the best real use tests I think. Glad you agree!
Excellent detail, very helpful.
Thanks, glad you liked it 😊
OWNorDisown I am your 2nd biggest fan and i love this video
Thanks, appreciate it ! Thanks for watching and being so supportive :)
great review and thanks for using my favorite game of all time BF5 as reference for cooling.
Thanks! Yes, that game remains one of the best to test for thermals :)
Great video, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Yay!!!! Good to see you!
Likewise mate! Hope all is well.
This looks surprisingly competitive in terms of pricing from Alienware, this used to be the pricing I'd expect of MSI. I'm glad to see the 4080 laptops coming in at a better price than the last gen 3080 ti laptops.
Speaking of Alienware and MSI, do you ever intend to do more smackdown videos like you used to? Loved those. I believe the MSI GT73 vs Alienware 17 video was the final deciding factor for me buying the GT73.
Thanks for all the great content, man.
Hi Lee! Thanks 😊 I have finished a video where I compare the GE77HX against the GE78HX to see if the extra 65% in cost is worth it. That will probably go live Monday or Tuesday.
Sunday I am working on a 7845hx vs 13900hx vs 13980hx video. And I'll probably do a smacksown Titan GT77 vs Asus ROG scar 17, or perhaps against the m18. Which one would be best you think?
@@OWNORDISOWN awesome, I'm very excited to see those results! Definitely interested in seeing the Ryzen offerings as well. The 7945hx looks promising.
I think either comparison would be great, that's a hard choice. On one hand, the GT77 is a flagship and would be interesting to see it up against the flagship Alienware m18. But that being said, the Scar 17 should be super competitive as well. Potentially on pricing especially.
My vote is on the MSI vs Alienware for nostalgia sake. But if you decided to do MSI vs Asus I'd still be curious to see it. I'm watching either way!
sad that Hp Omen not on your list, anyway so good content video as alwasy
@@shiftto thanks, appreciate it!
thanks for the review
Thanks for watching mate!
Excellent laptop I need an opinion, what do you think between the Alienware m16, the ASUS M16, the LENOVO LEGION SLIM and the new HP OMEN, which would be your preference as a good laptop?
Great video! It helpe me a lot! Let me ask you something:
At 11:08 you talked about fixing the stuttering problem. I should go to the BIOS, go to the Multiple Atom Cores, and check the option with the number 9 to disable 6 E cores, correct?
I had a bad experience with my first Alienware. Damn I want this though.
thanks man just bought it and i’m clueless about overclocking and stuff but I do want the best out of my laptop
How is it man?
@@Orly-pl4un Great laptop. Runs Cyberpunk 2077 just fine on performance mode, over clock mode even better. Solid 60 fps for that huge game on ultra. It’s incredible at performance. Make sure you get the Ripjaw 64GB 5600mtz graphics card it’s $200 but worth it cuz it has XMP which is an overclock ram thing.
Anyways I use this laptop in my videos. Perfectly great in davinci resolve though i haven’t used it much
@@vqsxd thanks for the info could help me compare I want to get the Lenovo 7i 4090 gen 9 would that be a better choice or this laptop
@@Orly-pl4un what’s the CPU? 4090 is better but if the cpu is lower grade it’ll bottleneck and won’t reach full potential
@@vqsxd hmm I can’t find anything that says cpu on the specs. I do see gpu 16gb Gddr6. Would that be it? Or no I know nothing about computers sadly I just want to get the best one so I don’t have to upgrade for awhile.
This vs the Legion Pro 7i with the same specs, which one is the better value? Wondering specifically how hot that i9 runs in the 7i at full load as compared to this one as well as overall features. Thanks.
Thanks for the detailed review which is superb as always. Regading the CPU TDP in different power modes, is there any way to set it to custom values using tools like Throttlestop of XTU or they don't work on 13th Gen? May be setting it up to 75W PL1 and around 100/110W PL2 (Short burst) can provide best of the both worlds.
Thanks! I did try Throttlestop and I was getting weird behavior. If I remeber correctly the CPU would only boost to 400 Mhz, much like when I set the voltage to 1000mv in the BIOS. I didn't have time to fully explore it. Perhaps it was a setting I had in the BIOS causing a conflict. I decided to just stick with the custom BIOS setting. Did an UV of -70mv too. I would expect both XTU and Throttlestop to work once Overclocking is enabled in the BIOS.
Great review! The AW's have a great balance of build, performance, and features this year. I was so close to going with the M18 - no 240hz display put me off it, though. Additionally, I wonder if prices will be cheaper if models release with an i7-13700H. Gaming performance would remain the same; games just don't need 24 cores.
Thanks Lee! Yes, wonder why they don't have a 240hz option for the m18? That and the heft put me off slightly. The 13700H should be cheaper. Wonder how the AMD model will be priced?
@@OWNORDISOWN In me own 'umble experience, Alienware always seems to be a step behind other Manufacturers in the displays they use. Again this is another reason why I switched to MSI
@Keith Mort I agree. I am testing the MSI GE78HX at the moment. The display is lovely. Only issue is I'm getting stuttering in some games. Nothing is ever easy 😪
I just purchased Is the 13900hx supposed to be in the 90 degrees range ? Will it last a long time like this
1) How long is the lifespan of element 31 thermal paste?
2) If element 31 leaks, will it damage the motherboard?
Yep, disabling e-cores does help with 1% lows, as 16e-cores is just too much for such a small power budget on top pf 8P cores. For CPU-only loads it's fine, but not for games which also need high clockspeeds.
The laptop itself seems pretty good, especially for the price. Can the fans be disconnected and cleaned separately though, without lifting up the whole cooling system?
Thanks for amazing, in-depth review Stephen! Very useful info!
E cores will be a waste piece of silicon for many apps that don't use them . Its mainly used by benchmarking tools. If it was to run background tasks, we only needs 4 e cores max, it cant handle games for fps.
Its surely needed for intel to chart as a top chip in Cinebench R23 and Geekbench , to further be relevant and to make customers blind in the numbers and also to forget about its still using 10+++nm.
Thanks Sergei! I'm looking forward to seeing how the Ryzen 9 7945hx gets on. Yes, the fans can be removed easily.
@@vmafarah9473 umm no, i5 12600k destroys both Ryzen 5600x and i5 12400 which only have 6P cores. Destroys them in games I mean, because e-cores *are* utilized by games, the first games that come to mind are Cyberpunk and the latest Far Cry.
The problem is again because 13-th gen HX chips have *too many* e-cores, as a result none of those extra cores work at high clockspeeds which results in fps drops in games.
And e-cores aren't just for behchmarking tools, they are used for all parallelled programs like video rendering. I do a lot of video rendering so in my personal case they'd be quite useful.
Guys, help me, please! So I should go to the BIOS, go to the Multiple Atom Cores, and check the option with the number 9, correct?
Hello, I have this question. Can you check if the BIOS allows me to run Windows from both SSD slots? I need to have two Windows systems - one on each SSD. I want to be able to run either of them at any time and switch between them.
Hi Steven, great review as usual ! Can I know the name of the tank game illustrated on the panel section ? Thanks a lot !
Thanks Victor! That was battlefield 2042. I like that game.
Thanks for the video, I saw basically everything I wanted to in regards to this model. Just a minor suggestion: Hogwarts Legacy is not a good benchmark because it is known for stuttering issues on all kind of hardware, which can be kind of "fixed" by capping the framerate to 60 fps and disabling vsync (which makes it useless for benchmarking), at least until the developer will fix that (if they ever will). I believe something like Witcher 3 at max setting (with all ray tracing options enabled) would be a better choice.
Thanks. Like I said my 12800HX + 3070Ti runs smoothly unless the frame rate is low enough to make the 1% lows dip below 25fps. Solved with DLSS. The issue lies with the game not scheduling effectively over all 32 threads. The problem went away when 6 e cores were disabled. As for lower end GPUs the issue will be the low 1% lows in general.
I am curious to see how the ryzen 9 7945HX + 4080 laptop I have coming in performs on it since it has no efficiency cores.
former best buy employee, saving up and planning on buying this next month. April of 2024. is there better choices out there ? so far i really got my eye down on this exact m16 you’re talking about in the video.
I'm also looking at buying this one as it seems to be the best value for a 4080 I can find. At 2100 at Best buy I dont believe this is beatable.
I got this on the release day, I couldn't be happier with most of my games running 2k over 100fps, and let me tell you something, my gpu/cpu temps are on the 60/70 C range and the fans never go full power so it's not even loud, I don't know what they did to keep the thermals that low. Amazing job from Alienware, but yes the software its trash hahaha, I can live with that
It's because I wager you haven't overclocked the CPU in the BIOS. That pegs it at 55w, even in CPU only work. What's your CBR23 score? I got about 30k
hows battery life been just doing normal things
@@robertlaciste1101 I think about 4 hours is achievable if you lower the brightness to below 50%
What cpu and gpu do you have?
:)
I got this same laptop with same configuration but chose an ryzen 9 7845hx. I have updated all the drivers but I have received GUI bios like you, my system still has old legacy bios which is really confusing. How can I get the same Bios like yours.
Steven, great review. How much help do you think a good cooling pad would be in reducing GPU and CPU temps. Especially in performance mode. MSI laptops always have better cooling which is why I changed to them from Alienware
Thanks Keith! I have my doubts that a cooling pad will make that much difference. 90 to 100W gaming is a lot to cool. May a few degrees cooler. It already has two fans and liquid metal and that CPU runs hot with that amount of watts. Really, high performance mode should be like 70 to 80w gaming and 125w max in CPU only work. Even at 125W it would struggle to cool it. At 115W it was fine, but the CBR23 score was about 28k points. Perhaps it is the rubber foot that's to blame, in which case a cooler would be a good idea. Certainly can't hurt...
@@OWNORDISOWN about to order the Iets Gt500 it's a 5000 rpm cooling pad. I heard that it worked on the notoriously hot predator. I'm hoping it will work on this too.. Nice content btw!
@Grael stream if anything can cool it that one will! Would be interested to hear how you get on. Thanks for supporting my channel and good luck!
@@OWNORDISOWN it's super cheap here in the Philippines but Hella expensive to other place. I'll try bringing the 300 and 500 once I migrate to Canada. Hopefully it will be cheaper that way to send ya one. Keep up the good work bud! You and bob saved me from purchasing some real bad laptops before :)
@Grael stream Canada is nice. I'm going there for my summer holidays. Thanks! Bob is a great guy, knows his stuff. He only lives like 45 minutes drive from me now .
Awesome video. It is very informative, thank you for that . 👌Yeah, I indeed have stable frame rate in Hogwarts Legacy with RTX 3070M Ti (Legion 5i Pro). I'm sure they will fix it.
Thanks Matej! Yeah, I'm sure new drivers will fix it. Thanks for confirming!
Hi Steven, thank you again for a great review. I am been seeing your videos for last 5years and you actually helped me buy a Alienware 15R3 back then. It had been a great machine, so thank you for the recommendation. But I think it’s time to upgrade now, it’s become slow and cannot handle many new softwares.
What do you recommend this time? I am open to other brands as wellI. I am an architect by profession, so I use various 3D modelling, rendering, coding, simulation and video editing software’s. Mac is not an option for me as there are few plugins which don’t run on it.
Thank you for your time.
Hi Kedar, for sticking with me so long ! 😊
The best CPU for your use case is probably the new Ryzen HX line.
I did this video
ruclips.net/video/FRMQPO1rxvM/видео.html
And the 7945hx was much faster than Intel 13th gen in all the work that you do.
At the moment only Asus have launched them, I have the Scar 17. It's a bit plasticy for my tastes but it's a solid machine and easy to work on (repasting etc). Alienware will be updating the m16 and m18 with it too. I suspect around April or May. The m18 has the same issues as the m16, although the new AWCC is better, and I am able to bring thermals into line. I will do a video on that. The motherboard is inverted though so any repasting will mean that you will have to take it our. Lenovo will be doing a Ryzen version of the Legion 7. Probably April/may
If you are going the Intel route the GE78HX is a good machine, very well cooled. They also have a 15" version the GE68HX which will likely be just as good .
I do have the Cyberpowerpc Tracer VII and that is pretty solid. Cools well and performs fast. My speakers don't work so I'll have to send for repair so that begs the question on what support you can get on these Tongfang units. XMG and Eluktronics offer the same machine under a different name.
That's all I have tested so far. I heard the Legion 7i pro rubs fast and cool so that is another to consider. Good luck!
@@OWNORDISOWN Thanks for the detailed reply Steven. Yeah I would not want a plastic laptop, since I travel a lot as well. My previous laptop (Alienware 15 r3) has so many bumps but being metal it survived.
I will look into other options with Ryzen 7945x. MSI unfortunately is not an option cause they don’t sell in India. You think Alienware or Lenovo is my best bet? From a non plastic point of view. Thanks again.
@Kedar Undale I think Lenovo may your best bet Kedar. They have a really good support and their extended warranties are much cheaper than Dell...
@@OWNORDISOWN Thanks Steven, I will look into Lenovo. I had bad experience with my Lenovo laptop which I bought Alienware but anyway, I will keep you posted. Thank you.
@@OWNORDISOWN Hi Steven, so after a lot of painstaking hours of research. I have narroweed down my choice to 3 laptop -
1. STRIX SCAR 16 with mini led, i9-13980HX and RTX 4080
2. Zephyrus Duo 16 with Ryzen 7945 HX and RTX 4080
3. Alienware M18 with i9-13980HX and RTX 4080
Which one should I go for? My issue with scar is its plastic and with duo is the durability (not sure how whether it will last for 4-5 yrs) and alienware is the screen quality and the ACC.
Thank you again for your time. really appreciate it.
The Alienware Command Centre looks cool. Which version is it? Mine is totally different.
I no longer have it. It was the version when the laptop first came out
Hey Stephen. Does the CPU in high performance mode sustain that high Wattage or settle to lower? I noted my X17 R2 actually throttles the CPU wattage in HP mode to activate dynamic boost so I tend to keep the system in balanced mode for CPU dependent games like FarCry6. I was surprised to see 70-90W on the CPU on this test. Even 55 in balanced is pretty amazing.
It actually holds it which is amazing. Balanced mode will start of at 75w or so and then drop to 55w. Depends on the game though.
@@OWNORDISOWN Thanks!!
@OWNORDISOWN please answer, for the m16 there is an option to put AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX , is cpu gonna be still same hot?
I want to know too
Im a laptop guy and prefer laptop generally. but now, its time to rethink about buying new one due to nvidia charging and performance difference. rtx 4070 laptop is slower than 3070ti with same CPU and is fast as rtx 3070 on same cpu. calling 4080 chipped a 4090 laptop which performs slower due to low wattage, slow cpu, slow Vram and matched performance of 800$ card 4070ti on 12thgen desktop.Top end xx80 class laptop of Turing and Ampere started for 2000$ when released , while the top rtx4000 series starts 4000$ rate goes on. Steve what do you think about current pricing.
I think current pricing is generally ridiculous and must come down . Although I asked Gentechpc how sales were going and he said very well , so it might be some time yet...
Thanks for the review. It's a shame that CCC is still garbage. I thought they were supposed to fix that software with the new machines. Still, this looks like a solid choice in a very crowded market.
Thanks glad you liked it. 👍 yeah, the control center still needs some work. They make it overly complicated really, but its definitely a good laptop.
@@OWNORDISOWN It's on my watch list for Black Friday. I'm expecting to see some very attractive deals this year given the competition. The featuresets are so close now that price and specific feates will make, or break, a sale.
@Darrell I agree Darrell. I was quite tempted to get the Tracer VII at Cyberpowerpc. Rtx 4090 + 13900HX 16" 2560 x 1600 240 hz, advanced optimus. $2650. That is a steal.
@@OWNORDISOWN Wow! That is a crazy deal. Tempting....
@@OWNORDISOWN Even cheaper today. $2,542.00. Unbeatable price. Doesn't ship to west coast US.
Does yours throttle the cpu down to 35w after about 10minutes of gameplay? Dell says this is expected but don’t mention this destroys performance, just something to consider before buying
I don't recall. I no longer have the machine. Typically I don't see that happening unless one changes the power mode. Depending on the game dynamic boost will do it too. I assume your CPU temperature was at 97 deg C or higher?
I have same laptop but with a Ryzen 9 7845hx cpu, but idk y my bios is not like yours. I have got the old style bios with boring legacy UI. I have also updated mt drivers
I just got my M16 i9 4080. I tend to use an extremal monitor at 3840 2160 60mz, key board and mouse. The whole set up works via Dell dock WD19. The power button on the dock works with the M16. This means the laptop lid remains closed all of the time. I wonder if this would cause the laptop to get hotter?
You do have those air intakes at the top of the keyboard and the motherboard is inverted so cool air is brought over the heat pipes in this area so I would expect it to run hotter with the lid closed.
@@OWNORDISOWN thanks for your thoughts. I've been using this set up now with a laptop cooler underneath, and it seems to be ok. Normally at 58 c. It jumps up to about 90 c when carrying out intensive tasks.
@@davidcyrilbrownthat seems OK to me David 👍
Im a big fan of the promethues gen v2 with the water cooling pump. Id rather wait until the 5080 comes out and i replace my 3060 laptop with that.
have a question It been almost 3 years with my laptop now
should I change thermal pad of my laptop and I have seen a layer of dust on copper heatsink (die contact area) . Do I polish it again The temps are fine right now but it is getting more warner as compare to 6 months ago ( repasted).
Thank you sir for reading my comment .
Hi Vikas, I think if you have only repasted the once the pads should be fine, but if you decide to do it again see what condition they are in and get some new ones. Definitely blow out all the dust.
@@OWNORDISOWN Point Noted Thanks for the advice . They are stock pads I never changed them and just repasted almost 4 times now I think I need to change them now
How is the performance in silent mode? I hear the cinebench score in silent mode isn't much lower than performance mode. Would like to see that verified though.
When I did CB R23 without the overclock in the BIOS, thermal full speed selected the CPU settled at 55w and scored 18467. Compared to OC level 1 145w and a score of 30,273.
I wouldn't be surprised to see quiet mode also run at 55w as that is the base power for the 13900HX.
Hello, Stephen! Pls, answer, what OC are u using on your GE77, mine do 7600 only, in Port Royal test, with +150 mhz on the core, great review, btw, thx a lot!
Hey Vitaly, glad you liked my video! I have +180 on the core and +200 on the memory.
@@OWNORDISOWN Thx, sir! Best regards!
@@vitalymichailov387 have you tried the IMON tweak yet?
@@OWNORDISOWN IMON tweak? 😲 Idk, what it means, sir! Did OC in MSI afterburner, and msi center only, btw, my model is 76 Raider, with 12700H... Seems, why the Port Royal score lower...Regards! GPU is 150w, either.
@Vitaly Michailov my 3070ti is also 150W . Perhaps the 12800HX helps feed it better. The IMON tweak tricks the CPU into thinking the CPU is using lower watts than it really is so it doesn't power throttle. I believe I had that set up on my GE77HX. I will do a video on how to do it.
i wonder why there is not a single review of the m18 yet. although its been available for purchase in usa since a month or so
Perhaps because it's more expensive and doesn't come with a 240hz panel, may not be as popular?
Suppose Balanced fan mode and GPU load in Furmark or Timespy or Blender. If one reduces TDPs, what relative GPU speed does one get at 39 ~ 43 dB noise level, please?
I'm afraid i don't have the laptop to test anymore. The GPU wasn't so much the problem, it is the 13900HX. That gets hotter and has two fans on it.
@@OWNORDISOWN Ok, thanks, this information helps me at least a bit! It means that notebooks with lower-TDP CPUs can be tamed more easily.
I just bought an M16 R1 from Dell (5.4 i9 24 core, RTX 4080 12 GB, 2x16 DDR5 4800 RAM, 1 TB SSD) for 2,348.00. I just bought also an upgrade on the ram (DDR5 5600 Furry Impact XMP iCue 3.0), to do an upgrade on overclocking. I plan on upgrading the DDR Drive to 4 TB in the future. The only down side to buying this notebook was the 165hrz monitor, I would have rather liked the option of a 240hrz or even a 480hrz monitor.
I'm not really a big fan of the Alien head on the machine, but oh well! I'd rather have some classic look, thinner, better cooling, and less weight also. You get up into the $4000 dollar range with the high end models that have some of the same capabilities. The biggest draw backs to this computer is it's weight, the size, fan noise, and cheap monitor from what I am understanding. I just wish Dell would create an XPS computer that had the RTX 4080 with an i9 processor in it! I'm not a fan of the M16 R2, because it doesn't take the RTX 4080 and above graphics cards, so I stuck with the M16 R1, which seemed to be the best for upgrading capabilities.
Consequently, my typical use is not really for gaming, but for CATIA, AutoCAD, Solidworks, and Information System development (C#, J-Query, LINQ, HTML5, JavaScript) as being a workhorse! The whole reason why I decided to purchase was upgradability to keep up with the latest technologies. I owned an ASUS notebook to where the monitor went out in it, so I steered clear of buying another one. The hardware of the M16's capabilities upgrading are well worth the money!
I hope it lasts you many years 👍
THANK YOU STEPHEN! You finally called out FG's scam! I can't believe someone finally did it!
I also want to ask, whats the point of playing at 100fps AAA titles? Is that worth it? Why not just lock it to 60fps and get great visuals and no stuttering? I mean, surely you don't need 100fps+ in games like RDR2 and such, right? Just play it at ultra settings 1440p 60fps. Cooler GPU and CPU.
Thanks Eric!
Hello! i have been watching some of ur videos and they are really useful thank you. I have a dilemma rn, im between getting a dell g15 se 5505 r7 4800h rx5600m for about 550usd/ or theres a more expensive option, which would be MSI Stealth GS65 9SG 240Hz Ii7/9750h and 2080(MAXQ), i estimate the 2080 build would be better ofc, at least in terms of gaming, im searching for the best bang/buck as im studiyng programming and i want to get the best cpu/gpu/futureproof for both gaming and multitask/programming with the laptop screen and another external one. if the 2080maxq option is about 150-200usd aprox more expensive than the dell, in 2023 with so few new benchmarks of the rx5600m i can't seem to know in which point comparing it to for example is a 2060mobile with the lastest drivers, what would u buy? should i keep waiting for a newer used laptop deal? rtx 3060 laptop prices are still on the rooftop and i need to save as much money as i can tbh, but maybe is it better to pay 200/250 for more futureproof with a 3060 now that 4060s are out? idk if the rx5600m could handle something like elden ring in high/mid 60fps stable or streaming(reason im looking forward to a r7 and more cores, altough im unsure how much would be a diff in fps while streaming would be between a i7 10k and r7 4800h), thank you very much for reading!(thing to note, the 2080 models seems a bit fishy apart from not having the ac adapter/charger included, xS)
another thing to mention, it would be my first gaming laptop, and im familiar with the dell g15 temps issues and will for a little money be able to hopefully fix them, the screen of the g15 is the 144hz which is the best one also in response time, altough that g15 performance is not insane i might be to push it a bit with more ram and better cooling no? tyvm again and sorry for the long messages :)
Hi, glad you like my videos 😀. It's been a while since I reviewed that Dell G15, I'm sure most of the bugs that it had must be ironed out by now. Still, as you say it will perform, at best, like a 206p mobile. I had a 2080MQ in my Omen 15t and it performs like a 2070MP if I recall. The 4600H was very good for battery life though.
AMD is always behind on their drivers so I do think the 2080MQ is a better option for you. What's the screen like on the Stealth?
@@OWNORDISOWN 240hz ips, the exact model can be found in ebay rn for 550-600dls from resellers(actually round 650usd hopefully when i buy the unicluded charger and shipping/fees), ill type the exact name of the publication so u can see it if u want; "MSI Stealth GS65 9SG 240Hz IPS i7-9750H 2.6-4.5GHz 32GB 512GB NVMe RTX 2080", it has 3 left still and has sold 16 laptops
im from uruguay, which is a 3rd world country but im able to snipe some decent laptop bc i have family going there in 2 weeks and they'll get it to me, maybe in 1-2 years i could sell the pc and upgrade to something better in the future(prices here are aloot higher), it is true that the msi would probablly be good for reselling later, but idk, do u think its worth the extra money and maybe risk for it? My gpu options would be like, 460usd for the r7 rx5600m, 650usd for the msi 2080 i7-9k one(with charger included, no battery), and maybe like 700usd for a 5600h/i5 11k rtx3060 decent wattage if prices go down a bit, im so confused in what to go based on my needs and futureproof, id be satisfied with a gpu that is able to handle elden ring smoothly at 60fps high/mid prob. tyvm
also i wont lie, i dont rly have the option to go 4 a rtx4060 laptop, but ive seen that in newegg them r going with a 12500k for like 1100usd,which makes harder to see what to get rn, tehre are used 3060 laptops for like 800+ still, do you think 3060 prices will go down or stand a bit more, or if is better to just go with one of the options ive mentioned?
I got my M16 for 2199.00 :) with that price, I will get 32 GB RAM ddr5 5600mhz :) the best deal out there, thanks for your video was really helpful for me. is a shame that M16 is not ready out of the box.
Hello. I have the same laptop. The temperature of the CPU is most of the time over 80 C. Sometimes in regular working over 90 C. Is that temperature ok?
That is perfectly fine 👍
Hi again! @@OWNORDISOWN Let me tell you when I tested it with cinebench the CPU was at 99 C. The life of the CPU could be reduced working that way (temps)?
@@maynorgaray8615it's fine as long as it's not all the time. I used mine crypto with my CPU and that was pegged at a 100% load for about 3 months and it finally gave up...
@@OWNORDISOWN Thank you for answer.
What you think X16 RTX 4090 or M16 RTX 4090?
I like the look of the RGB trackpad on the x16 but I suspect it will power throttle compared to the m16 because it is slimmer.
Can you do a video how to turn the outer lights off
I'm afraid I no longer have the laptop. You should be able to use their software, I think the option is called Dark mode
Oh well at least they allow it to throttle and hit 85 watts, unlike razer 18 inch maxing out at 40w when gaming and just over 2ghz. I am sure the 18" will be better but shame about the non HDR screens.
Yeah, I probably would never buy Razer again for that very reason. Nice machines but you are paying a lot for gimped performance.
@@OWNORDISOWN Razer were close to a winner this year. They are using a fantastic panel with pretty much the fastest IPS response times out there and 500+ nits. When not using the GPU, the CPU is allowed to run wild to throttle point so I just do not understand for the life of me this 40w restriction when both are running. The thermals of the 18 in particular are perfectly capable but that limitation is enough to totally put me off the laptop, especially at those prices. MSI is out with their continued tight ass stubbornness to pay the g-sync bios unlock license fee, ASUS strix out due to no secondary key lighting although if I have to compromise on one thing that might have to be it, Alienware out and the only vendor doing non HDR screens this year. I can't get past that. As a heavy online video streaming person, the difference HDR makes in smoothing out dark scenes with that horrible "cloud look" compression is something I can not go back to NOT having.
Lenovo have cut corners anywhere and have stripped all integrated windows hello functions and are back to plastic touch pad, I dunno, it seems they are all compromised this year in one way or another, for what should have been a really great year for laptops. Still looking at the new Clevo 17, they claim 300+ watts of combined thermal headroom but I'll need to see a review to believe it. If the specs are real, the only thing I can fault on it is only 4 USB ports but everything else it does, HDR panels, all secondary lighting on all keys, G-Sync etc. If the cooling really is that good then maybe a local brand using the Clevo chassis is the way to go.
Own or Disown?
I would say it's an OWN Bob
@@OWNORDISOWN Nice 👍
maybe if available you should review 4060 with 8gb which is lackluster to begin with..
Yes, I think when I return the GE78HX to Hidevolution I'll ask for a 4060 laptop
The screen puts me off this, I'm used to 500 nits brightness with my legion.
So 300 nits might seem dim?
The display specs seem super lacking for 2023. With all the miniLeds, or 500 nit LCDs.. and I would be using the actual laptop screen to play as I travel alot.
It doesn't look the best in action in review videos either..😢
I had a 500 nit Legion 7 for a year or so and although it is brighter, unless you are viewing in a super bright room I don't think it would bother you so much. Perhaps if you are editing photos or something and you want the screen to be more punchier.
True, many displays are brighter now and often for a similar cost. The main thing going for this Alienware is the extra storage space.
@@OWNORDISOWN
That sounds good, I'd be using it indoors 95% of the time.. and no, no photo editing. Mainly gaming in free time, I was just abit worried that 300 nits would be really dull/dim coming from a 500 nit legion 7.
@barkermush7147 yeah, no, I think you will be fine. It's not like those sub panels that were 250 nits a year or two back. It was only last year that most decent panels were 300 nits and you didn't hear anyone complaining.
"Orgasming" over frame gen is an annoyance I agree with lol.
The 3070Ti is the bang for buck king now for sure right now simply because the 4070's improvement over it is basically just frame gen for a good chunk more $. At least the 4080 offers a nice bump in pure performance over a 3080Ti, just sucks Nvidia sort of screwing over the mid-range segment.
Reminds me of the 2000 series with Nvidia selling us on ray tracing back then, when it wasn't worth using and not implemented in a ton of games yet.
By the time frame gen is widespread in multiple games, Nvidia will be shilling us on the RTX 5000 series with frame gen version 2.0 new and improved! 🤣
Lol, very true indeed Jonathan! I was wondering if anyone was going to pick up on my orgasm comment, lol. Cheers!
🔥🔥🔥🔥Holy moly 100c 🔥🔥🔥
Yeah, it's pulling a lot of watts in high performance mode.
4 hour battery life is a big thing if it an intel laptop 😆. My intel 11800h laptop lasts 2 Hour out of the box. Intel on 10+++ Matured enough its in its 40s. 4nm AMD area=16units, 10nm intel area=100 units, what a size difference.
AMD 7945HX needed half wattage to deliver same performance number in cinebenchr23 that of i9 13980HX in a thick machine .
Even though I love my Intel machine I paid for it, was the cheapest at times.
Yeah, it's not bad. Enough for me. It's not like I would be traveling with it for work.
argh was hoping to hear about the amd dragon version. Intel too hot. thanks for posting anyway Steven
Thanks for watching Lynton!
Alienware M16 with RTX4070, i7-13700hx (115w) or Asus Rog Strix G16 with RTX4070 i7-13650hx (140w) (the ram is 16gb at both) which one would you recommend???
The MGP on the 4070 of the Alienware m16 is 140W as well (see Best Buy questions answered by Dell).
I think thermals are about the same.
I do like the storage options /upgradability on the Alienware plus you do get a more powerful CPU.
I think Dell support is also better than Asus . I would go with the Alienware
@@OWNORDISOWN it is 115w on the version that I’m looking at, do you think it is a big difference?
@@boyes0 it will be the same. You have to add the 25w dynamic boost....
Frame generation is everything for the lower end 40 series sku's. Even the lowly 4060 can stomp the 3070ti on titles which offer it, and just about every new AAA game released this year does.
What a chonky boi you got today...
lol
I only see 2 USB-a ports
Am i missing something here
Yes, you are right. My bad, I mis-spoke. Only 2 USB A
Seems worse in temperature and preformance then the Asus 18 for 2299. Now its sold out
Yeah, but I hear that the Asus has really bad coil whine and backlight bleed...I have the m18 in to test now
can u compare it with scar 16 4080?
Sure, I can ask for the Scar when I finish with the GT77
@@OWNORDISOWN ok thank you.i want to know also if i9 13900hk is better from 13980hx.thermals ,speed ....
@VitaminK the 13980hx has a 200Mhz speed advantage so should be faster in single threaded workloads. It also have 12 more threads. But I expect it to run hotter, all depends on the watts the manufacturer to put through it. In gaming the 13900HK should be a bit cooler for the same watts.
I try the overclocking by the custom but I still cant change the power limit
You can't lower the limits? Hope they didn't lock that out with a BIOS update...
@@OWNORDISOWN I can't unless I downgrade to Bios 1.6. And in 1.7 the worst part are most of my games won't run anymore.
I don't understand why the m16 is cheaper than the x16 when the m16 seems to be a lot better.
I think its because it is thinner...I agree with you 💯
element 31 ... so not a liquid metal paste?
It must be similar. Major mixtures of liquid metal include indium, tritium and ion seemingly.
@@OWNORDISOWN tritium ion? is it fusion powered?!
It's a hybrid of liquid metal and thermal paste
@@TaxEvasionUS i heard its not that good though
@@ajo12Oba I dunno tbh, where did you hear this from? I've been trying to research how good it is compared to LM and regular thermal paste
I have found that I you lift the laptopa little bit or use cooling pad then thermals improves a lot it's just poor air intake.
That doesn't work so much if you have an inverted motherboard like Alienware has.
Got mine for 1600...
I found 100% AdobeRGB review...🤷🏼♂️🙄
You can't judge it based on Hogwarts Legacy because that game is grossly unoptimized. It stutters with high end even on console, if that doesn't tell you anything then IDK.
Works fine on my 3070ti laptop and another viewer said it does too on his. Sure, the game can be optimized better but the fact remains disabling e cores solves the problem.
300+ nits is fine, and was for over a decade…
I agree
Only one sticker?!
Yeah, I know right? Absolutely brilliant is that :)
$2600 laptop skimping on ram. At least it's not soldered. Consumers should reject this.
It is a shame I agree, would have been nicer to have faster RAM or even a 32GB SKU at Best Buy.
it does have a high end GPU in it though, which Nvidia has put unreasonable price tag on. Plus RAM can be upgraded in the future.
alienware still has overheating problems
The system can only cool 115w on the CPU in a CPU only workload and probably 65w in a combined workload.
@@OWNORDISOWN what i don't like about all gaming laptops are their too thing nowadays, causing fans to rev.
@Jason Maiorano there is a lot of heat to dissipate....there is a new solid state cooling that was shown at CES whereby air is brought in via a vibrating membrane with no fans. Perhaps that can be used too as they are seemingly pretty quiet.
@@OWNORDISOWN sounds like the laptop cooling got better then... i watched yer vids years ago for alienware laptops. i had one years ago, it constantly crashed. is that still the case now?
@Jason Maiorano I did get some stutters in games, I attributed those to the cpu because as soon as I reduced the number of ecores from 16 to 10 it went away. On the GE78HX I also had stutters which gradually resolved themselves. I have a few more to look at, plus the Alienware m18 arriving tomorrow so hopefully this stuttering thing is just driver related. The Intel 13th gen does run hot though, and needs some good cooling if it is to maintain high watts and a decent performance
Hogworts is a terribly optimized game so it usually sucks on most systems.
True, although it ran great on my 5800H + 6600m machine as well as my 3070ti laptop. Perhaps it's a 4xxx Nvidia thing.
I wasn't very impressed, heavy, ancient heavy power brick, buggy Alienware command center, mediocre battery You can overclock the GPU from Command Center but have to go to the bios for the CPU lol.
I suspect they wanted to bury the CPU overclocking within the BIOS to deter people from doing it, knowing it would run hot. It would have been better to have it baked into the control center as a power profile. Still, once set you can just turn off high performance mode. My main complaint then is that it performs like my OC 3070ti on the most part.
the weird part is that 2 years ago, Alienware had a compact 300w GaN power brick, or was it 330 watts? I don't remember now. I remember it was much smaller and looked rather like a power bank than a powerful gaming laptop charger.
...pz...pz...pz...pz...
CPU got 98c damn
Lol, fry an egg!
It will reach 100C and there's nothing you can do about it

MY budget is between 2000 - 2500 US$. what do you recommend?
I would say either the Legion 7i pro or the equivalent to the Cyberpowerpc Tracer vii.

alienweare (m16) with rtx 4080

legion pro 7i gen 8 intel with rtx 4080

@judsondematosfernandes467 I haven't tried the Helios 16 but I did prefer the Legion over the Alienware. It ran cooler and it doesn't have an inverted motherboard so it's easier to repaste. Plus their warranty is cheaper to extend.
