I have a 4 year old hut that has the logs not debarked - it depends on the soil conditions and what type of log. No problems so far. You can see the photos on my vid - double wattle wall hut.
@@osbushcraft I have a lot of respect for someone like you who can take feedback and learn from it without getting defensive. Probably a big reason you can build a better shelter than 99.9% of people and your next shelter will be even better. Subscribed
for the ones you buried half way in the ground you should have debarked an scorched them for the parts going into the ground. Keeps the wood from rotting as quickly. But in all Nicely built.
@@osbushcraftyeah the burnt parts also keeps bugs away like termites and ants from eating away at it. I'd love to see the rest how it came out. U looked like a giant building the tiny house 🤣🔥 looks hella cool tho. Gave me an idea to make if I ever had kids later on in life
if the soil is not there - just clay - I wouldn't worry about rot. Also depends on the type of wood. Willow will regrow if it is not debarked - regrowth prevents rot.
if youre critique is the nails, then the critique should also extend to the tools, which also id not come from that forest. If we accept that the hatchet and shovel are fine, then why are the nails so hard to accept? are they not also tools? Tools that have been used for hundreds of years in projects like this, if not over a thousand years. Once a community had a blacksmith on site they start using nails for everything, but the materials still came from the local area, hand collected and shape by hand into cabins and workshops and whatever else they needed. Bushcraft is just pioneering single player style, and the line between bushcraft and making a village gets really thin when you stop being alone
I like the idea of building it on stilts, rather unusual for bushcraft content. Keeps away some of the critters, some of the mud and insulates against the ground as well.
Great build why couldn't see this video before i moved i was building stuff like that for 4 years and I'm 17 and i love doing it i love camping im just looking for a girl that likes that to ik about plants mushrooms all kinds of stuff how to make rope and glue stuff like that im in Louisiana now i was in Mississippi
It's awesome to hear that you've been building for so long! Keep up the great work, and I'm sure you'll find someone who shares your passions in no time!
@@osbushcraft yeah I've been looking but I'm shore there is someone out there for me I might be with the one now like I don't want a job or anything I just want to be with my gf and be off grid but get the money to do it first you know
Nice but you should learn to do more noches and less nauling you had to have two or three boxes of nails to carry and if you just used one box or none you can carry that much more

good build. it’ll last a week before it’s rotted and full of bugs.
strip your trees of bark for semi permanent structures.
thanks for the useful advice

And don't use poplar trees to build especially because they rot outside real fast....
😅
