1.Take a shower (to clean and let go of the day) 2.Meditate (chanting and seating) 3.Spread love and kindness (training the mind to let go of bad, anger, and hatred) 4.All the good and pure energy that we cultivated/gather today..dedicate it to people you knew who passed away... share the good energy with them. 5.Reflection while staying neutral...how was your day?...think of all the goods and also bad to see any repeating patterns....how can you better the next day? 6.Before you go to bed think of all the goods not the bad/problems...feel proud with goodness you did and go to bed with that...be covered with that good energy like using it as your blanket...let that purify your sleep. ***from other video***: 7. Do not eat a heavy dinner right before bed...your body uses the energy to digest rather than to rejuvenate.
Summary: The evening routine can help you to start on a full tank tomorrow. This is for balanced, supportive living with a strong, healthy bright mind. Thank you Venerable Nick! 1. Have a cut-off (such as shower time) to come back internally rather than thinking about external responsibilities and the future. "Retreat" and stop thinking so much. Come to the present moment. Have a few hours of "shut-off". 2. Practice evening chanting and meditation to focus the mind and increase stillness. 3. Share loving-kindness with yourself. Dedicate good energy to yourself. Then dedicate it to others starting with your household, your town, your city, country and world. This will release any hatred or anger. Now you may dedicate this pure energy to your deceased loved ones. 4. Spend time for gentle reflection. What good happened today? What was challenging? Consider this from the self-perspective (behavior, actions, speech, interactions). See the patterns but practice looking neutrally as a way of self-study. 5. Sleep in a sea of merit. Do not think about problems in bed. Instead, recall feelings about good things you did during the day and the week. Be proud of your good merit. Sleep peacefully for a peaceful morning thinking about merit when you wake.
You speak so clearly and in such a gentle manner. I love how all of the advice you provide is so simple and results can be realistically achieved. Thank you for your kindness and insight.
As a Taoist Monk of 50 years...my training included three 1 hour sessions a day. Usually in the morning...afternoon...and at night. Included was acupuncture...Chi development...Tai Chi Chuan forms...and 30 minutes of Meditation. That was the routine. It basically came down to prioritizing what was important to your Spritual development. People...places...and things were cut from my daily Life...as they served no purpose in helping me down my Path. But...No Regrets. No a single regret. Everything I had done previously...lead me to where I am today. 🙏📿🙏📿🙏📿
When you talked about the importance of not letting all of your hard work go in the evening after putting a lot into a morning routine it hit hard. Never thought it that way, but it makes sense. The morning after becomes healing from the evening before. ✨
I don’t currently have an evening routine, but after watching this it is clear that I need one. My mind is so undisciplined, I find it wondering even when I am trying to watch self-help videos (like this one). I have to rewind a little bit and re-watch because it gives me so much to think about. Although I am not a Buddhist, this is very helpful and applicable. Thank you! 🙏🏼
Wonderful kathy. You hit it on the head. These tools are simply to help train the mind. Definitely feel free to integrate into your daily life :) I hope it helps.
I too am fairly undisciplined and find the good monk's videos to be helpful--and worth rewinding to catch what I miss when the mind wanders. I live with diagnosed ADHD so I am gentle with myself around this, always trying something new to help me focus and hunker down within. My practices tend to change up and I'm happy to receive Nick's mindfulness tips. I wish you well!
@@marylusunshine I’m glad that you are kind and patient with yourself when it comes to dealing with ADHD. That can’t be easy to deal with. I don’t feel that I have anything like that, but I think I allow my own anxiety and fears to take over sometimes. I definitely am trying to work on stopping the theater that is taking place in my mind when I have no reason to run various scenarios out. I really think it just goes back to me needing some sense of control in my life, but ironically it leads to lack of control of my thoughts! Lol. Thank you, Mary, for your kind words. I wish you well too! 😊🙏🏼❤️
This is beautiful. I am Christian, but I learned a lot from your videos. I feel the Christian churches and teachings I’ve been a part of, they don’t spend enough time on self-help (although it could be argued a relationship with Jesus could overcome anything). I feel these teachings really helped me with practical ways on how I can better myself daily with practical ways that I could incorporate into my own beliefs. Thank you, and you speak very calmly and have a beautiful soul!
Hi I am believer of Jesus Christ. This so true. I have and re evaluating what I have been living or not. I am taking these practices are developing me to be my best and higher self to be a positive influence before everyone I meet to be a giver to others. This has with his other videos helping me to have my best WHOLE self. Thank you Nick. God bless you.
I'm a Christian, too. But I really love the Buddhist practices of lovingkindness meditation, and remembering that everyone at one point was an innocent child you could smile at.
Welcome Christian brother and sister. I too am a disciple of Christ. To me Buddhism has offered me a practical, logical and actionable path on my journey to find God. To me it has added a deeper perspective on the parable shared in bible. In the end, I kind of discover that the underlying message is Love ❤️ It is love Christ died to save, it is love that Lord Gautama decided to turn the wheel of dharma. May all of us who are on the journey discover the light and blessed with the wisdom, health and resolute. May we all be at peace, free from enmity for living creatures big and small to those invisible beings. ❤️🧘♂️
Nick, I love how you write the chapters in the title line- Intro, Cut-off Time, Reflecting, Meditation, Sleep in a Sea of Merit. Helps us navigate back to our favorite parts, helps us keep track of the parts of the system.
For the whole of this week from the 10th of July 2021, I chose to consistently and purposefully make my bed as my very first activity upon waking up...am noticing amazing small happenings in my daily life
Why??? You don't live in a barracks with 40 other guys. I lived that way for 5 years in the Navy! But unlike armed forces you don't have a support system that facilitates such silliness in civilian life. Try getting a five-year old to stand at attention for inspection. Attention to detail my ass and mentally alert at all times WTF
Dear Ven.Nick, I came across your upload just after I had showered for the evening! I immediately did the basic worship (three refuges, five precepts, offering flowers/oil lamp, giving merit to other beings and the deceased) and chanted the maha mangala sutta. Then as you suggested I ran through the good deeds I had done today. I felt so good!
Thank you. I remember as a kid my parents raised me with these practices and I was a happy & healthy child. Once I stepped into busy adulthood with hustle bustle working & no balance I completely forgot these practices. I’m so glad & grateful for this video thank you thank you.
Once again another video I thought theres no way im gonna watch 34 minutes of this. Then I start watching it and everything you say is so beneficial and helpful that it hooks me in and I cant stop watching it. For some reason I feel as though everything you say reaches me deeply because there is stuff in my life that needs to change and all the stuff you preach seems to just strike a cord with me. Once again thanks for another amazing video !
Awww thank you so much Cody. I appreciate it and I'm glad it's helpful.. I'm also like you in that I want to record a short video, but for some reason it keeps getting longer and longer. haha :) Hope you are doing well cody
This is beautiful and perfectly timed. I'm struggling with my Ven Nick's Morning Routine 😉 and I see now that it's bc I end the day, at worst: negatively, and at best: scattered all over the place. So instead of spending my evenings cramming in documentaries until my mind is numb and my body follows, I'll wear myself out sending love and kindness to everyone, including me. Like counting sheep, but with more spiritual gain ☺ 🙏 Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu 🙏
Beautiful. Yes treat the morning and evening routine like a sandwich. It should help to protect and insulate you and your progress :) They go hand in hand and you can use it for your benefit
teacher, i thank you for this. i dont have the ability to retreat or wear robes but i make sure to watch these kind of videos at least an hour every day and it keeps me at ease. thanks
Thank you for your video! 1, Cut off time - After 8 pm, relaxing music only. Once I'm home, no technology or junk food, water only (hot tea is fine). 2, Stillness - Sitting, stretching and massaging. 3, Love - How far you've come and how much you've changed for the better. Show yourself love and love towards your family. 4, Reflection - Focus on the wins and where I need to better myself. 5, Sleep - Be grateful for all that has happened throughout the day. A strong evening routine fills the tank up ready for the next day. How do you show love to family members that you hold resentments towards? Love and Peace from the UK!
I tried this last night and it totally worked! I've been having trouble sleeping lately due to lots of things. I took a shower, slowed down. When in bed thinking of the things i did that were meritorious, I discovered 2 things: 1) I need to do more things worthy of merit. 2) Some things I did not do are meritorious. (treating people w/ kindness when they are not kind). Had a great night's sleep and woke up very refreshed with energy!
Recently, I came across your youtube channel and started watching almost all of your videos. I am currently on my 18th day of meditation after watching your ‘21 days meditation challenge for beginner’ video. Although is just a short 5 mins meditation daily, I must say that I am so into it now and feel good. Thank you so much for the all the guidance and sharing. Sadhu sadhu.. Love ~~ all the way from Malaysia 💛
Its amazing how your previous life experience ties into your current “journey in monk-hood” and you are able to offer these gifts to us. Thank you, Nick!!
Tears in my eyes. Thank you Ven. Nick. I'm working towards becoming a nurse anesthetist. It's something I'm truly passionate about. I know I need and want to focus on my mental health in this journey, taking time to process everything, to ground myself in between the shifts, to get balanced etc. Your teachings are so valuable to me, I can't even describe. Thank you so much, again... dhanyavad, dhanyavad.
ah, such an easy and clear way to adopt a new way of experiencing evenings and getting one step closer to the focus, mindfulness, clarity. May all of us fall asleep effortlessly and deeply, having restful and rejuvenating night.
I love this. One thing I add for myself is to turn off all screens at a certain time. I often don't shut the phone off until just before sleeping, and I would like to do that earlier. I always sleep better then. Thank you so much.❤❤❤
Nick, I have adhd and it sounds like these practices will reduce some of the symptoms. I just started a masters program and I'm going to incorporate these practices to see if it will help with focus. 😉 I shall keep you updated once it becomes a habit. 😊 I'm grateful for you and your channel.
It all makes sense and emotional after listening to you … really comforting how you gave your struggles with sleep and how you make the Buddhist ways accessible to everyone . Feeling so much better about myself now thank you .
Most odio The time I come back home really tired and I don’t have energy to take a shower 🚿 but now I need to do the effort to take a shower 🧼 after a long day , thank you 🙏
I love the way your use your hands when speaking. I am going to emulate you in the way you use your hands when I am with others. It will remind me to be present to myself and to remember to be considerate and kind and loving
This is one of the important and valuable video on RUclips. I imagine if most people do it everyday the world will become so much more productive as when you work you get your full. When you cool down try to stay as much as calm.
Loved your Morning routine. Admiral William H. McRaven gave a commencement speech at UT at Austin 2014 about doing the first task of the day which is making the bed. Then move on to the next task. He said this will give you satisfaction/accomplishment for each task done. What a wonderful concept. Thank you for reminding us.
You’ve helped me sooo much to be okay with my introverted nature. I am meditating and soon will teach my 9 year old. All the love to you and what a gift you are :) ♥️ Thank you.
🙏🙏🙏SO SMOOTH and CLEAR! As a Mother that never had a chance to educate and be with my family😪 this is so helpful for me ,to my CHILDREN and my grandchildren.
I end up "cutting off" at 2100 and just let the sediment of my mind settle with a nice cup of tea in silence while sitting in my favourite chair. I find that's a good time to reflect on the day and evaluate how I acted and what I said to others too.
Hi Venerable Nick. I now make my bed every morning. It is not with hospital corners. But in a way that is positive for me . And I feel much better. Thankyou. Next - sleeping in a blanket of merit. Thankyou. Namaste. Keep up the good work
Thank you so much. I am hoping to become better at meditation. I love it a lot but it’s so difficult to stay in the here and now. It goes to show how conditioned we are to being busy all the time, even if we sit still.
I understand this. The cultivation of a bright consciousness. And, the "Sea of Merit" makes so much sense. I am going to do this and I am going to share it with my 14 year old son too. Thank you so much 🙏🏽.
I used to think about three things that were pleasant in my day before sleep, listening to your teaching I will try thinking of three ways I did good instead, so I can do good and stop clinging to what is pleasant :)
but isn't enjoying something that pleases us require an awareness of the now, so acknowledging something that pleases us is another moment of gratitude, on behalf of ourselves, self care for our soul.
This was even more helpful to me than the morning routine (which I repeated today--yay!). I have struggled with morning headaches and tension/pain in shoulders and neck. But the shower, the meditation, the practice of loving kindness to myself, then others, the reflection on my day, the honoring my deceased loved ones, and then--maybe most significantly--the enfolding myself in the blanket of...what did you call them? my merits? "good" things--or maybe skillful things--I did during the day. I woke--for the first time in weeks--with no pain in my neck, shoulders, or head. this was very reinforcing and I plan to practice this again tonight! and my intention is to continue this and the morning practice! Thank you again! You are clearly doing the right "job" for you in the universe :)
Dear Ven. Nick, thank you very much for your calm and inspiring words of wisdom. You’ve given me renewed hope to get my life more in tune with mindfulness, loving kindness and developing a routine to not only help myself but the people around me as well. May The Buddha bless you greatly ☸️ 🙏🏼
Yay, a night time routine! I'll say for the reflections point, I've been doing a mood tracking journal this year and I feel it's helped me. At the end of the day, I reflect on how I felt in the morning and afternoon/evening and write bullet points what happened. Then on Sunday night, I look through the week and think of what I could do to improve. Really helps me look back on situations objectively and understand my brain more. There's a lot here that could work well with me and get my brain in the mood to be tired. Trying out chanting with my morning routine so I think doing it at night too might help me get more used to it. Thanks for your advise and for your time! Have a lovely day!
Finally an evening routine! yay! I started following the morning routine and making the bed for the last two weeks. I love it! I do notice some positive changes in my days. Thank you, Ven. Nick!
Thank you. I have a morning routine, that I am perfecting but never thought of an evening routine. I really enjoy your videos. So enlightening and informative. The way you speak is very calming, and I like your sense of humor
I've been having insomnia for weeks, but yesterday I tried following the advice in this video and was able to get to sleep early-and not only that, but by intentionally relaxing my left brain prior to sleep I was able to use it in my dreams in tandem with my right brain; it was amazing. My right brain was coming up with dream scenarios, and my left brain had plenty of energy and lucid clarity to analyze and navigate the dreams as they were unfolding.
@Elainna Wonderful. Yes please use these tool especially with how busy you are. Having both a solid custom morning and evening routine will definitely help your situation :)
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and tools for ending our day. Everything you mentioned touched me personally. You are a wonderful teacher, and I feel blessed that I found you!🙏🏼
Beautiful sue. Thank you for the great work you do out in the world, now, when you come home make sure to fully care for yourself. We you healthy and strong :)
Thank you for your teaching I have ahead of me the the wisdom from your teachings to be able to change me. when the student is ready the teacher will appear
I love your videos. I visited Thailand in the 90s and I saw monks and I’ve always wondered about how you lived. Thank you for sharing the wisdom with us.🤍
Which such gratitude, love and peace. I really appreciate your teachings that I have embrace your insight of yourself experience. Thank you Thank you Thank you. 🙏YOU 🙏ME 🙏and the present moment.
Awesome video Nick. Learn so much from your teachings. Love the part where we can send prayer vibes to the souls who have left us to be with the Lord. Thank you.
Such a wonderful and applicable concept(s)! to learn these simple but meaningful lessons and hear this wisdom from a single great teacher, makes me wonder what we can learn when we all listen with compassion to each other. Thank you Nick! Incredible to read all the comments as well 😃
Love how clear you make all this. I'm sure breaking all my bad habits to incorporate some of these will be difficult, to say the least. But you are so inspiring, and this presentation makes me want to try. I also love that even though monks have few possessions, and are not "worldly", you have taken advantage of social media to try to help improve peoples lives. May I just say a big THANK YOU!❣
Almost all your teaching are the things i had practice but was lost due to different ups and downs in my past and watching your very good way of interpreting, delivering every words in so clear and vivid manner , yes, i think im lost and have to recalibrate my self once again, Thank you Nick , you're here when my Savior pave the way to this very nice teachings of yours. God Bless.
Dear Venerable, I paid homage to you since I felt overwhelmed after watching two of your videos and getting life-changing advices. May you overcome all difficulties you face. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻, with much respect.
Dear Nick Sir, We are getting all the wisdom at home by watching your amezing Videos. Awosome Video as usual :) Lot's of love and respect from India ❤️❤️

A quote I will keep and learn to apply. Thank you :)
Ah yes... thank you for sharing!!
Love this quote. Thank you for sharing.
1.Take a shower (to clean and let go of the day)
2.Meditate (chanting and seating)
3.Spread love and kindness (training the mind to let go of bad, anger, and hatred)
4.All the good and pure energy that we cultivated/gather today..dedicate it to people you knew who passed away... share the good energy with them.
***from other video***:
7. Do not eat a heavy dinner right before bed...your body uses the energy to digest rather than to rejuvenate.
Thank you so much 😊

When you talked about the importance of not letting all of your hard work go in the evening after putting a lot into a morning routine it hit hard. Never thought it that way, but it makes sense. The morning after becomes healing from the evening before. ✨

WOW! that is simply amazing. I love how you are using the tools and actually doing the work. That is beautiful. Keep it up my friend :) well done.
Its amazing how your previous life experience ties into your current “journey in monk-hood” and you are able to offer these gifts to us. Thank you, Nick!!
sadhu sadhu. thank you so much Raquel 🙂🙂🙂yes, it definitely has been helpful.
Wonderful and thank you so much maike. Yes definitely take time to cultivate your foundation. It's important that you are healthy and balanced :)
ah, such an easy and clear way to adopt a new way of experiencing evenings and getting one step closer to the focus, mindfulness, clarity. May all of us fall asleep effortlessly and deeply, having restful and rejuvenating night.
youre literally the only one I have the notification bell on for.
sadhu sadhu. thank you so much 🙂🙂🙂
Lol, me too!
Me as well. 😊
I love this. One thing I add for myself is to turn off all screens at a certain time. I often don't shut the phone off until just before sleeping, and I would like to do that earlier. I always sleep better then. Thank you so much.❤❤❤
@@teamginger6359 that’s a great idea 😊
You speak so clearly. I love how you explain it all profoundly. Thank you for your kindness and insights. Love and Light.💚🙌

Thanks Nick!!!
Yes that is so important :)
I loved the "Sleeping in a sea of merit" part !!! 😄😍🎆
Nick, I have adhd and it sounds like these practices will reduce some of the symptoms. I just started a masters program and I'm going to incorporate these practices to see if it will help with focus. 😉 I shall keep you updated once it becomes a habit. 😊 I'm grateful for you and your channel.
Wonderful Terry. And yes, have a grounded daily practice will help you have a solid foundation for your masters program. Good luck my friend :)
Wow. One of the single most powerful Dhama talks ever recorded in modern times.🙏

Thank you for reminding us.
sadhu sadhu. thank you so much Sherly 🙂🙂🙂
You’ve helped me sooo much to be okay with my introverted nature. I am meditating and soon will teach my 9 year old. All the love to you and what a gift you are :) ♥️
Thank you.
Beautiful Regina. Keep it up 👍
🙏🙏🙏SO SMOOTH and CLEAR! As a Mother that never had a chance to educate and be with my family😪 this is so helpful for me ,to my CHILDREN and my grandchildren.
Wonderful! Thank you Belinda! I’m glad it’s helpful 😊
I end up "cutting off" at 2100 and just let the sediment of my mind settle with a nice cup of tea in silence while sitting in my favourite chair. I find that's a good time to reflect on the day and evaluate how I acted and what I said to others too.
Wonderful :)
Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu .So Wonderful and practical.
sadhu sadhu. thank you so much 🙂🙂🙂
Hi Venerable Nick. I now make my bed every morning. It is not with hospital corners. But in a way that is positive for me . And I feel much better. Thankyou. Next - sleeping in a blanket of merit. Thankyou. Namaste. Keep up the good work
Beautiful Terry. Slowly keep integrating these techniques. You're doing great 😊🙂
Thank you so much.
Wonderful! thank you so much. Please keep us updated on your progress Rakhi :)
Vandami, Bhante. Sadhu... Sadhu... Sadhu... 🙏🙏🙏
sadhu sadhu. thank you so much 🙂🙂🙂Its a pleasure.
I used to think about three things that were pleasant in my day before sleep, listening to your teaching I will try thinking of three ways I did good instead, so I can do good and stop clinging to what is pleasant :)
Beautiful. Yes please feel free to give it a try :)
but isn't enjoying something that pleases us require an awareness of the now, so acknowledging something that pleases us is another moment of gratitude, on behalf of ourselves, self care for our soul.
Thank you, thank , thank you! For your presence and especially to share your knowledge
Thank you so much 😊
This was even more helpful to me than the morning routine (which I repeated today--yay!).
Aww thank you so much. Ok glad it resonates with you 😊😊😊
Oh, and the reflection on death. I tend to do this alot myself anyway--it makes sense to me :)
Most Beautiful sharing that can aid healing .... My opinion, of course.
BLESSEDNESS! 💚
Your light is inspiring and I feel your warmth touching my soul. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much 😊

Good evening and thank you Nick👍
Thank you Shelly. I hope this evening routine helps :)
Thanku so much with lot of love and respect ❤💓💗
You're welcome 😊
Wonderful suzy. I love the commitment to your practice and the observation of oneself. That's great. Keep it up my friend :)
You can't imagine how you opened my mind today
I'm glad to hear my friend 😊😊 thank you for sharing
Finally an evening routine! yay! I started following the morning routine and making the bed for the last two weeks. I love it! I do notice some positive changes in my days. Thank you, Ven. Nick!
Im so glad to hear the progress. Please keep up the great work :)

Wonderful. Yes please feel free to give it a try. I hope it helps ☺️☺️
Thank you
I have developed my routines every day with a cut-off time @8pm. Following being present in the moment, I now let my morning sky wake me. Namaste.
Thank you. I have a morning routine, that I am perfecting but never thought of an evening routine. I really enjoy your videos. So enlightening and informative. The way you speak is very calming, and I like your sense of humor
sadhu sadhu. thank you so much Charmaine 🙂🙂🙂and yes please feel free to incorporate the evening routine along with your morning routine :)
Wonderful. I’m glad it was helpful my friend 😊
What does your evening routine currently look like?
Love from Nepal

Love how clear you make all this. I'm sure breaking all my bad habits to incorporate some of these will be difficult, to say the least. But you are so inspiring, and this presentation makes me want to try. I also love that even though monks have few possessions, and are not "worldly", you have taken advantage of social media to try to help improve peoples lives. May I just say a big THANK YOU!❣
