My favorite little story about "Gott Mit Uns" is that in WW1 the Germans had signs with that written on it so the British wrote their own signs that said "We Got Mittens Too"
@Knasterreal1 The Waffen-SS had in general no "Gott mit uns" on their buckles but "Unsere/Meine Ehre heißt Treue" (Our/My honor is loyality). Christianity was not really celebrated in the SS because of its original role as an elite force with inspiration and motivation taken mainly from paganism. However the regular Army in WW1 and WW2 wore buckles with the motto "Gott mit uns".
Am I the only one who wants an HBO TV series about the Thirty Years War? Three seasons, one for each decade, each focusing on one character: a soldier, a priest, and an innocent civilian? That'd be badass!
I watched a Swedish drama-doc about it. It was about a German mercenary whose diary has been preserved. He fought first for the Catholics then for the Swedes.
I remember when I saw Sabaton in Atlanta last year, Joakim walked off for a beer break and left the rest of the band to play Gott Mit Uns. It was some funny shit.
During their last Cleveland show, Joakim had the crowd choose between Poltava and Gott Mit Uns. We chose Gott Mit Uns. When he told us to cheer for either English or Swedish, the cheers for English were so quiet that he yelled "What the fuck!?" When he asked if we wanted Swedish, the whole crowd ROARED. The funny part was that nobody knew any of the lyrics except for "GOTT MIT UNS!"
He did that at the show this past weekend. He asked who wants it in English and the cheers were very low. He laughed and said "I think I know where this is going." "Who wants it in Sweedish" we all erupted. It was such a great show!!

In the English Civil War, they spoke about giving salvos in "the Swedish manner". Also the battle cry advised to be used by the Roman army in the "Strategikon" attributed to the Emperor Maurice (written around 600 AD) is "Nobiscum Deus", latin for "God is with us".

@@itsmemrnukki yes that is true but i was referring to the actual croat unit in 30 years war, because they wore the cravats(neckties) first and in 1630 approximately they were hired by the french who were really interested in cravats and they started wearing it fashionably(nobility). I wish there was a specific song about the sack of Magdeburg - I've lived there for a few years and the scale of it is just insane - it was one of the most important cities in Germany before the sack with 35.000 inhabitants before the sack in 1931 - and with 20.000-25.000 being outright killed during the sack and a lot of buildings being destroyed people fled the city and even 8 years later the "city" only had 450 inhabitants. I've always been kind of negative to the Swedish Empire Era or at least unapolagetic. While in school it was just hastily mentioned as the age when Sweden was a powerfull nation and blah blah blah. But when I did some research on the subject and got the numbers and facts the image changed considerably. By percentage we caused as more damage to Europes population as the Nazis and Soviets did combined during that era. The polish population namnes our invasion of Poland as the Swedish Deluge not as a war. This has taught me a very important lesson in history and certainly older history, always view it with an impartial and apolitical eye and sort out the pieces with as much objectvivty as you can. So many people shout today about glorious pasts and mighty ancestors but theu always seem to forget about the true facts about the horrors of war and the misery it causes. There are multiple eyewitnesses accounts from this periods which alows us to come really close to the people who lived in those days, a number of them is mentioned by the historian Dick Harrison in his book about the war ( link here I hope you understand swedish ruclips.net/video/Y3m_DwChOiU/видео.html). That being said I really love the song and espacially the work you do Sabaton History!
When time goes by, it gets harder to see wars as the terrible things they were. Dressed in silly outfits with weir weapons, and without many accounts of the horrific individual experience, its easy to lose yourself in simple imagery and stories that were turned into a heroic national narrative in the 19th century or later. Too bad i can't read Swedish as I'd love to read that account. Thanks for the comment! - Joram
And the Estonians talk about Swedish rule as the golden years when things inproved. All great nations of europe did damage to each others populations, it's impossible to avoid when engaging in warfare. The later half of the Swedish imperial years I would say is something to be proud of, as the Swedes avoided warcrimes and atrocities as much as possible and punished raping soldiers with death. We sure as fuck were better than the english or russians.
GottMitUns is one of my favorites, idk why i just feel like it has sort of a band of brothers and you got your friends on your side, idk i just like the song.
Something I really wish you would have mentioned in this video was that when the swedish cavalry captured the Imperial artillery, they didn't just silence those guns. They were cross trained in how to use artillery. After capturing the Imperial guns the cavalry then turn to the guns upon the Imperial forces and began firing. That's what really broke the imperial army, being surrounded by artillery.

In Charlotte, North Carolina the audience voted for Swedish lyrics, too.
One of my favorite songs
@@Puckosar War will produce atrocities and crime.
@@Puckosar so that is why eesti wants to be nordic?

Probably one of the best sabaton songs
I agree, Gustavus Adolphus had a nice beard. I style mine in a similar style.
because of Gustavus?
Mines style is like the depictions of vikings... and considering my beard is a golden red colour its fitting
Gott Mit Uns is undoubtedly my Favorite Sabaton song.

why Par looking like Rob Zombie about to bust out Dragula?
Something I really wish you would have mentioned in this video was that when the swedish cavalry captured the Imperial artillery, they didn't just silence those guns. They were cross trained in how to use artillery. After capturing the Imperial guns the cavalry then turn to the guns upon the Imperial forces and began firing. That's what really broke the imperial army, being surrounded by artillery.
This video is a gem.
Awesome video guys! Can’t wait for Aces in Exile, or Stalingrad.
The sound of the mortars, the music of death, we’re playing the Devil’s Symphony
