I`d watch a stream where Indy gets some of his historian colleagues and debates with them about topics covered in sabaton songs while the song is playing in the background.
Good Guy Indy: somehow isn't bitter about his ex having his old record collection. I mean I know it was almost 30 years ago but I feel like most people would be extremely petty about this. We should all strive to be more like Indy.
I took it as they got married, because he said "Then girlfriend" and then when he was talking about how they were hers, he looked towards people behind the camera and a woman laughed... But I really do not know. Also Indy is modern Bob Ross :)
I love Joakim's comment to that. "You're a bigger than me. No women's keeping my vinyls." LOL. Of course I'll bet all of Indy's and Joakim's records are on CD now.

@@lexingtonbrython1897 They were never stolen. During the Thirty Years' War they were sent to a parish church in České Budějovice, and then they were secretly taken to the Imperial Treasury, Vienna (1637). The Jewels were brought back to Prague on the occasion of the coronation of Bohemian king Leopold II in 1791. The jewels were kept in Vienna due to the threat from the Prussian Army, but were later returned to Prague, arriving in the city on 28 August 1867. Thank you for mentioning that the Dutch were fighting for 80 years at that point (81 years in total, with a 12 years 'pause'). For them the 30 years war was basically round 2/the continuation to finally get official independence from Spain. Really good series keep it up!
This song had really powerful melody and lyrics. My favourite part is from the Swedish version where the lines go "Könningsmark goes forth, like no other man, like no other can".
Hi Indy and Sabaton, I once commented that you guys should do a video about this song. I live in the Czech Republic and really appreciate it that you guys write about our history. I'm not sure about which Crown Jewels you guys are talking about, the most famous crown jewels from Charles IV are in our possession. But there are some things that the Swedes have like a Bible made out of skin and numerous art works. To be honest, I didn't even know about this battle until I heard the song, and I doubt 20% of the country knows it. If they keep it, then they keep it. Today it's not something that I've ever heard talked about. But I do think, that as a sign of good deed, and to celebrate our alliance, the war, etc etc, that if the Swedes gave it back then they have nothing to loose, and it would only bolster our friendship with them, and make them highly respected in our culture. I think it would also make the Czechs learn something about their history again, and make them notice that we weren't always a country that had a great army, airforce, and defenses, but everytime an enemy showed itself at the border then we threw down our arms immediately. 1938,1968, and so on. So like I said, "We don't care anymore, we would like it back, we would be grateful to have it back, and it would be amazing to have it back, to bolster ties, friendship, heritage, and remembrance. But like they also say," finders keepers, losers weepers. "
the only problem during 1938 was that if we threw the army at germans, we could have been in way deeper shit than we were. But I would say 1648, 1938, (maybe 1968, not sure 100%) and 1989 are inner connected due the fact there were students involved in the events during those years
Dissapointed you did not do Lion of the North, as today is Gustavus Adolphus day in Sweden, Finland and Estonia. Yes, Sweden got a national holiday celebrating the lion from the north.
Hey, we celebrate Presidents birthdays in America, why not celebrate the lives and deaths of great kings of Sweden? It's a crucial part of the history, and should be a point of national pride and celebration.
@@firstconsul7286 We do, Gustaf II Adolf on the 6th of November and Karl XII on the 30th of November. But it's more of a remembrence than celebrations (as it's the days of their death and not birth). Carolus Rex has so many good tracks on it, and this is one of my favorites. You know what, guys? My heart aches for a episode about the final solution. Every time I hear the song, I get emotional. & Every time I watch the fan-made video with bands of brothers, where they find a KZ-camp, I feel like crying. Just reading about it, gives me the chills. The first time I heard the song live, Sabaton did it acoustic. It was the most beautiful piece of art, I've ever heard. My favorite thing about history: There are things like the 30 years war starting and ending in the same city. If this was fiction, it would be criticized for being too on the nose and too poetic. Just like how Life is Strange was criticized for being too on the nose, overly dramatic, angsty, and "not properly expressing how teenagers act"... except that was exactly how they act, or even dialed back a bit. Consider that, I watched the series unfold as a teenager growing up in the PNW, the exact same age as the characters in the story and could easily relate every single character to someone I knew in my life, I would say they did good. Another good example from history is how the Spanish conquistadors threw away platinum as a worthless metal on their endless search for gold and the Golden City. Reality is often more astonishingly poetic than fiction. More dramatic. More angsty even.
it is ironically poetic and funny that we were the cause of the war for it to start (or at least one of many) and yet we were also the ones where it ended (or at least one of many where it ended) *We shall speak not of that bridge of shame* (some swedish guy of the time, idk)
Well I am from Czech Republic and I don´t think that swedish army stole our czech crown jewels... Original czech crown jewels should be now locked in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague castle. There are many parts of it but the most famous are: "Crown of Saint Wenceslas" which was made for Charles IV in 14th century, then scepter and globus cruciger which was made in first half of 15th century for Ferdinand I and coronation cloak which was made in 17th century. Then there is crucifix, sword etc. During 30 years war they were mostly in Wien. (Funny fact, with these jewels there were also gothical scepter and globus cruciger but they were not returned to Czech Republic and they are still in Wien) Return to the point: Swedish army "only" looted Rudolf II (Holy Roman Emperor) collection of paintings. Many of them from famous painters like Da Vinci or Michelangelo. And they are still in swedish museums. They also looted many Prague's palaces for their gold. I hope I am right. It's been many years from my history classes so if someone can please confirm it. EDIT: Good point by @Vit Duris: swedish troops also stole Rudolf's collection of statues, library with rare books etc.
Well it was more than just paintings. It was also Rudolf's whole library with one-of-a-kind manuscripts (such as Codex Gigas which is now proudly presented in Sweden) and Rudolf's instruments for alchemy (as he was a chemistry enthusiast). It is claimed that 500 paintings, 70 statues 370 science instruments, 400 exotic furniture and tons of jewels, gems, and gold according to historians worth about 12 million coins (no idea how much it potentially is in current money). But yeah no point on dwelling that now I guess, just here for the sake of historical accuracy.
I believe so too. Our crown jewels are safe in st. Vithus Cathedral. What Swedes did loot though was the Kunstkammer of Rudolf II., wich among other things held a horn of a Unicorn.
Btw the Swedish army does not take just crown jewels but original statues from Karl's Bridge and a lot of paintings too. We want them to be returned for 100 years. :D
Love my home town to be mentioned multiple times in a Sabaton History video 😊 Greetings from "Friedensstadt" Osnabrück, where the peace of Westphalia was concluded 🙋🏼♂️
One of my absolute favorite songs by Sabaton (top 2 or 3). I love the history of the Czech people and the Seige of Prague is one of their finest moments. Carolus Rex is my favorite album of theirs and the amount of craftsmanship displayed on the album pours forth on every track.
Getting to visit Charles Bridge (Karluv Most) was a really cool experience, and yes, I listened to this song walking along the bridge. Thanks for fueling my love for history, Sabaton, I'm a history major (I would've been one anyway but the music boosted my interest). I've been to five shows and can't wait for the next one!
A big thank you for this channel. I really like the episode on Carolus Rex songs as I do not know Swedish history. Moreover, I learn things about history that they do not teach in France while we were involved: the Thirty Years War

What a suprise war wasn t about justic but wealth and power back then. Good thing that nowerdays ... now wait a minute. Well the swiss knew why they would give no quarter and kill every invader that came looking for plunder.
@@Monsterpala Well it started with high ideals of protestantism vs. catholicism and one being the "right" religion which would lead their forces to a swift victory over the other side. But after decades of war and destruction that was more damaging to Germany than WW2, the idealism was gone and warfare had become a very pragmatic thing. I strongly suspect that Europes reluctance for religious wars and fanaticism stems from this time. Though it has made a comeback from time to time in other guises.

Love this channel so much, the passion you guys have for history is inspiring! And regarding your question, I think the Crown Jewls belong to Sweden at this point. I understand the historical pride those who claim to them today may feel, but those who they were stolen from are long, long gone. We should learn from the past, yes, but at the same time conflicts from the past should not define us in the future.
Crown jewels are still in Prague :) :) sweeds took mostly tresuers and paintings .. an books .. loooooot of books . :D :D but crown jewels were sent to my home city České Budějovice and de facto became capital city of Bohemian kingdom only thing Czechs wanted bak was/is/ever will be is Codex Gigas ... the Devils bible ...
its not only about the crown juels but mainly about the collections left by rudolf the second, and the memory of the last habsburg that accually ruled from Prague
Indy: "....and if we were to try and explain everything, we would be siting here until the next Sabaton album comes out." Me: Foreshadowing?!?!? Hype in the making!
It really depends doesn't it? Like, if someone originally owned something and all for it back, no matter how long it's been, it is still theirs. But they also can't be too mad, either. I mean it's been how long? So... Shouldn't they both make the best move towards greater friendship, whatever that move may be?
Oh sure talk about the Swedes having the Prague Crown Jewels, but do you ever talk about Modena taking Bologna's bucket? That happened in 1325 and they still have the bucket!
To think that all you need is awesome rock music in the background to keep the history lesson interesting and not make one fall asleep, School teachers should take notes. Oh, and when will Killing Ground be made into a video?
And just to put it in to perspective, prague was defended by some 750-1000 people while attacking force was around 4100 later reinforced by another 8000 people. Also as moravian i have to mention the 1645´s siege of brno where around 1500 defenders held the city against 28 000 attackers and won the four month long siege.
I don't know which crown jewels you mean? Czech / Bohemian crown jewels are still here in Prague. If they took the Austrian ones we simply don't care. :D Czech crown jewels with Crown of Saint Wenceslas made by Charles IV are still in the Prague castle which is a former seat of Czech kings and now Czech presidents.
It's not my favourite Sabaton song (that honour will probably always belong to The Lion from the North), but as a Czech, I love that this song was made. Although I have zero idea of what crown jewels are you talking about. The crown jewels proper were never stolen, so it might be some minor things? Dunno. God knows the Swedes took a lot of good stuff home with them throughout this war. :-)
Czech crown jewels are still here in Prague in the Prague castle which is the ancient seat of Bohemian / Czech kings and now seat of Czech presidents. Swedes stole a lot of gold and treasures here but they didn't steal our Crown Jewels. I saw them with my own eyes at the Prague castle because in some occasions they show it to the people. It's possible that they took the Austrian / Imperial ones because Prague was a capital of Austrian empire during rule of Rudolf II. but the Czech are safely stored here at the Prague castle.
well as Czech myself, I must say yes give them back, If it's really true that they stole some of our crown jewels, but I am not really sure after reading comments and also the fact that I didn't really pay much attention to this history period in my history classes (so thank u Indy to shed light on a history period I would otherwise didn't really cared too much about).... but yeah, it's a thing of pride to have them back, not only those potentially stolen crown jewels but everything they ever stole from us... because u know, stealing shouldn't be done
My grandfather brought home a small but historically substantial collection for the second World War. I had a discussion with a friend from another country on whether or not I should try to find the original owner’s family. He told me that after 70 years that the family they had once belonged to might not even know they are missing. On that note and relating to the crown jewels it depends on whether or not they could be said to belong to the citizens themselves or if there is a blood relative to inherit them.

Btw the Swedish army does not take just crown jewels but original statues from Karl's Bridge and a lot of paintings too. We want them to be returned for 100 years. :D
Love my home town to be mentioned multiple times in a Sabaton History video 😊
Greetings from "Friedensstadt" Osnabrück, where the peace of Westphalia was concluded 🙋🏼♂️
Greetings from Sweden!
I love it how Joakim's ring travels from his right hand to the left one during the interview
I think it is funny Joakim's reply about the vinyls. I have to agree no ones keeping my music, books, or games.
A big thank you for this channel. I really like the episode on Carolus Rex songs as I do not know Swedish history. Moreover, I learn things about history that they do not teach in France while we were involved: the Thirty Years War
And a big thank you from the Sabaton History team for warming our hearts with this nice comment!
Indy lived in Prague in the early 90-is? God damn how old is he?!
Very nears 40
I say Indy is immortal.
@@scouttroopermerc1506 He's actually a witness disguised as a historian.
Actually he is a vampire, and he is faking his historian job, he was there for all the things that happened...this is the only way he can tell what he saw to masses...he is, in fact, 946 years old...
@SONOFRIVADIN He's 51.
And surprise we've written a song about it!
I lost it.
Were can I get Joakims 'Starfleet Academy" Shirt? Its awesome!
Greetings from a village, right between Münster and Osnabrück, the cities of the peace of Westphalia.
That's a pretty cool spot to be, right between where history was made. I wonder how many times the envoys between the Catholics and Protestants pass through the ground you live on?
@@firstconsul7286 Thats a question I've asked myself more than once.
I would also like one of those shirts!
Race a Skoda (Cars I wish they would sell in the US) vs. a Volvo for the crown jewels!
No way, our crown jewels are just fine at home.
But we could race for the unicorn horn they stole.
My Volvo 740 GLT (Tweaked and slightly modded with a new turbo, new pistons and a new camshaft (all in all 210hp on the wheels) against my neighbors Skoda Octavia. We live by an old rally stage road from the Rally to the Midnight Sun so it should be quite fun.
@@m0rtez713 unicorn ??? wats that story
Now that you mentioned the 80 years war, I wonder when sabaton will make a song about it
In 80 or 50 years from Carolus Rex
As a latino i have always love the history of Europe, castles, kings, wars, we dont have that much of history besides the Spanish conquerors (at least where im from, not Mexico, not all latinos are mexicans) and i really enjoy Sabaton songs cus they make me read and learn more about Europe history.
Honestly I love this channel
Thanks!
This song had been on my mind for a few days now, given that it's one of my favorites of the Carolus Rex album. Glad to see it finally being covered here.
My favorite song of the album now has an explanation at this channel hell yeah!
Pretty awesome, right?
"Like who's the rightful owner of Alsace-Lorraine"
*Starts laughing*
"It's not like it's gonna be an issue for hundreds of years or anything"
*Laughs Maniacally*
1648 is in my opinion a top 10 sabaton song of all time. Thanks for making this :)
Our pleasure! And great to hear it suits you
It's weird being 2 years younger than how long this war lasted.
Thank you for this episode. This song does not get enough love from the band, cant remember when they played it live. Can we have it on 26Jan2020 in Prague please? :-)
Edisode was well worth the extra bit of a wait! Thanks guys! Great song 🥰
It should be mentioned that one of the men who were defenestrated in Prague in 1618, was killed by the attacking swedish troops in his home.
Lavrentivs Wow, what a way to go full circle. Stuff like this is what I love about history
God damn, those protestants must have really hated him!
What a suprise war wasn t about justic but wealth and power back then. Good thing that nowerdays ... now wait a minute. Well the swiss knew why they would give no quarter and kill every invader that came looking for plunder.
@@cerealkiller7143 As far as I know he was more of a collateral damage as the swedish troops pillaged his home (along with the rest of area).
0:07 I love his response
30 years of war. Damn long time. One of your best songs in my opinion.
You guys did one good job on this song.
And guys, don't worry about the delay.
Thanks!
Gonna be honest with you guys. Carolus Rex is not really my favorite album. Just my personal preference.
But 1648. I really like that song.
One of my favorite Sabaton songs both the English and Swedish versions
Joakim wearing a Starfleet Academy T-shirt just made my day.
You tubers from Sweden:
Sabaton > PewdiePie
Both, both is good
Yes king
5:39 "he was obsessed with the booty"
Aren't we all?
Can we all just take a moment and appreciate that sweeeet and smooth cross to song at the begining
How come that Sabaton taught me almost as much about history and made me even more interested in history than school did?
We like to think we are complementary lessons 😉
I've got to agree with Indy, Sweden's had them for so long that it's theirs, possession is very important in determining ownership.
For further Information check out "Treaty of Westphalia". Worth it!!! ruclips.net/video/c-WO73Dh7rY/видео.html
"What´s wrong with Pickled Herring?" "Nothing, if you´re Swedish!"
Yes, indeed a very *ahem* informative video.
This is a great song.
My favourite song from Sabaton! Thx a lot.
You're welcome!
I love your channel keep up the great stuff!
I thank you very much for this great song love it.Dankeschön for explaining this,,30“years of terrible war!!! And much thx to Indy and Joakim for their sketches,I.did have much pleasure !!!
Liebe grüsse Alex🤘🙂.Skål🍻and rock on🤘oh the crownjewels:I want to visit sweden and Praha!!!🤔🤐
I like to sing along to this song sometimes.
Thanks a lot!
Envoy: Commander peace has been signed.
Commander: No it has not, shut up and go away!
"It's not like the ownership of Alsace Lorraine would cause problems in the future."
*Bismark sweats nervously*
Oradour-sur-Glane's few survivors have entered the chat
Question for Joakim:
Hakkapeliitta, song, when??
Sure, they're not the Winged Hussars, but they are really cool in their own way.
3:01 hell yeah
Honestly listening to Inde talking about the peace deal for a few years sounds like a good idea
Is no one going to talk about Joakim's shirt? Never expected him for a fan.
its not only about the crown juels but mainly about the collections left by rudolf the second, and the memory of the last habsburg that accually ruled from Prague
Damn it, why do you guys always know what sabaton song I was thinking of?
Hard rock mind control- but, shhh, it's a secret!
I love your videos :)
Yes i was looking forward to this
Indy: "....and if we were to try and explain everything, we would be siting here until the next Sabaton album comes out."
Me: Foreshadowing?!?!? Hype in the making!
What we really want from Indy and crew is a week by week account of the Thirty Years War.
That will take like 30 years to finish...
@@SabatonHistory And the problem is what? I think the audience is there.
Thanks for an awesome birthday present Sabaton!
You're welcome! Happy Birthday!
It really depends doesn't it? Like, if someone originally owned something and all for it back, no matter how long it's been, it is still theirs. But they also can't be too mad, either. I mean it's been how long? So... Shouldn't they both make the best move towards greater friendship, whatever that move may be?
And so with lightened hearts and heavy irony...
And to this day east Luxembourg smells of pickled herring
The swedish version of 1648 is an absolute masterpiece
I think the threshold of ownership is 371 years, personally.
Ok, we just have to wait a little longer than🇸🇪😜
Nope, if requested before limit, the counting stops :)
Oh sure talk about the Swedes having the Prague Crown Jewels, but do you ever talk about Modena taking Bologna's bucket? That happened in 1325 and they still have the bucket!
It's like that scene in Nebraska when Woody wants his air compressor, he lended it to Ed Pegram 40 years ago, so that's why he needs a new one
I think we need to get Indy those records back. :)
7:55 why is there a mouse pointer?
Indy and Joakim are so funny together. Great channel.
They really are. Also behind the scenes. Thanks, man!
Love this song, one of top 3 in carolus rex, and I’m quite certain the Czechs don’t need the “Swedish” Crown Jewels back
I don't know which crown jewels you mean? Czech / Bohemian crown jewels are still here in Prague. If they took the Austrian ones we simply don't care. :D Czech crown jewels with Crown of Saint Wenceslas made by Charles IV are still in the Prague castle which is a former seat of Czech kings and now Czech presidents.
Unrelated, but play this song and follow it immediately by Rorke's Drift and it's honestly pretty cool. Kind of flows into one another.
i would love to see a album focused on the 30 years war, like the great war
10:54 is that a hint for things to come?
Noooo that was definitely solved peacefully and didn't cause at least 3 wars between France and Germany
Listening to Indy talk about the 30 years war until the next Sabaton album comes out? I'm not seeing a problem here.
When will you do a song about the Eigthy Years War?
whats up with that miniature barn center middle 4:52
