  • Replace over the stove microwave oven, GE JVM3160. Built in microwaves can be replaced easily after finding correct size replacement.
Most newer microwaves over the range are removed by loosening the bolts that go through the top of the cabinet, then lowering the microwave which is hinged at the bracket mounted on the wall. The old Panisonic microwave oven that I removed, slid away from the wall. It was much heavier than the new GE over the range microwave oven and likely needed a more heavy duty bracket/mounting system.
Two templates come with the microwave, one for the rear wall and one for the underside of the cabinet. You'll need to know where the studs are located behind the microwave. It's important that at least one of the wood screws go through the rear mounting plate and into the center of the stud. I recommend not rushing the planning of the mounting plate on the rear wall. If you get it right, the installation will go smoothly and the microwave will be securely mounted to the wall via a stud.

those templates never seem to be correct. I use them as an initial guide but always measure or in this case use the actual support bracket. Even for a simple towel bar, they seem to be a little off. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the input on the templates. Lately, I've found many errors/problems with items I have bought. Echo had the wrong starting instructions with their string trimmer. If followed they flood the engine. The closet bolts I bought at Ace Hardware for fastening a toilet to the flange had the wrong threads on them! Bluntly, it sucked. I set the toilet on the wax ring and found that I couldn't get the nuts supplied to thread. I had to pick up the toilet. Run to the store for a new wax ring and new bolts.
