It was quite easy. Thanks Lowes guy!!.
There's all those holes in the mount for a reason. Use the ones that line up on a freaking stud instead of using a drywall anchor unless there's no stud on one side.
dry wall anchors are just as useful as studs. Each toggle bolt he used is rated for 100-150 pounds. That damn near 300 pounds of carrying weight for a 50 pound microwave

Silly question... i've never recirculated exhaust before... are filter changes necessary, and if so how often? Must the microwave be un-mounted in order to do a filter change? It appears it would have to be?
Keep in mind that not all microwaves come off the wall that way. Our old Frigidaire was installed into a bracket with 2 arms. Those arms were connected with two bolts that were behind the vent grille on the front of the microwave (in addition to the two bolts on top in the cabinet). Posting this in hopes that it saves someone some time...we pulled on that Frigidaire for a long time before figuring out how it was bolted in.
We just took out a 22 year old Whirlpool! Yikes! It was a bear. Pulled one lag bolt completely out! Praying the next one is much easier to install, as this man showed!!
Definitely use a template because you’ll be drilling other holes or larger holes. If you’re installing a used microwave, make templates out of cardboard. Also, sometimes you’ll find used microwaves with missing wall mount brackets. You can use your old mounting bracket you’ll just have to use tin shears to make notches so your used microwave will mount.
Great video thanks. I did this install today but wish I watched this video before although I watched many others. Two tips I liked were drilling pilot holes from below the cabinet, before drilling down through the top to prevent damage to the cabinet finish. And because this is a recessed cabinet above the microwave, you can reuse the same hole for the cord. I drilled another hole for the new microwave cord when I could have reused the old microwave hole. This only applies to a recessed cabinet top. If it was flush you will for sure have to drill a new hole. Hope this helps other's with these two items.
A good video but I'm wondering, before you attached the template on the wall, why you didn't trim it along the dotted lines first as it states to do so right on the template? This explains the small gap you have between the top of the microwave and the bottom of the cabinet.
Hey! I have a question, I was wondering if it's possible to put the microwave on a stainless steel shelf or any other surface? Thanks! Great video! (Its a microwave hood combination)

Excellent instructions, thanks! I find it helpful if you’re replacing a microwave to replace with the same brand if possible. This increases your chance of not having to replace mounting brackets. Mine was replaced in about an hour with a couple of extra hands to help hold/lift.
Except, if one is specifically NOT buying the same brand (Frigidaire) because it's a piece of junk. It came with a new house, went kaput after about 2 years. Ugh, my problem is that I have tiles that abut the bottom of my old microwave and the only replacement microwaves are all taller so how can I mount the bracket without removing my tiles?
You can use painters tape on the tiles, and use the correct drill bit so you don't damage the tile. Then you can simply mount the bracket on top of your existing tile. It may require a little finess to properly level the microwave.

Hi, I bought an over the range microwave from Lowes almost a year ago & its still sitting on my counter. I couldn't afford to have them install it but I do have a problem. The power outlet is underneath the cabinet & not inside like in the video. Any tips or advice on how to get my microwave installed with the power at the back of where the microwave goes?? Thanks!
Brenda Amaya you could go into the cabinet directly above the lower outlet and cut a hole, install an old work outlet box and run a wire down to the existing outlet, tapping in there. Then you’d leave the lower outlet in place and be able to plug the cord into the new outlet higher up. Could also cap off the lower outlet after removing the plug. Imo this is about the only way to do it, otherwise you’d need to move the microwave out maybe three inches to be able to plug the cord in.
Are the mounting brackets universal fit or they specific to each manufacturer? I have a broken Frigidaire - can i use the already installed bracket if I get a microwave made by a different manufacturer?
Just to add...if the top of cabinet opening has a lip hang over(for lack of a better term), you will need to lower your template on the back of wall to the same height of the front so that the space is level in the front and back of the unit. You can trim the template edges so that it fits inside the trim frame.
I was gonna say the same. Now what if you test the microwave and have a defective one AFTER all that. Plus I would no longer trust the brand/ model so you just drilled the shit outta your walls and cabinets
Inside of the microwave are 2 cardboard covers one on the top area and one on the right side of the microwave my question is are those cover are meant to be there or it needs to be removed?
Great tutorial! I was hoping my new GE mw would fit on the old GE bracket, but no, they changed it. Good thing I watched. NOW, what's going on if one of my "self adjusting screws" didn't work? It went all the way down into the hole, but isn't grabbing anything and tightening.🤨🤔😒
It's important to take the right steps when drilling new holes for cabinet support. If the previous holes are in the way, we recommend filling them with sealant and allowing them to dry fully before continuing your project.
In regards to the tracks: You state that it might be possible to reuse the track if the new microwave is the same brand. Is it only for the same brands or do all different brands have different tracks and places for the bolts? I was hoping I could just take the old one out and screw in the new one without all the measuring and drilling.
Thank you for the video really help me. Also I used the old frame that was attached to the wall from a frigidaire microwave got the same size and holds my Samsung microwave perfectly. 😀😀😀
A 2x4 cut to a length that matches the height between the range and microwave as well as another board cut 4 inches shorter help when you mount the top bolts and also when your trying to feed the cord through.
This is a very helpful video, EXCEPT that you only mention the charocal filter and didn't show installing it in and now we installed the microwave with having the filter out and we didn't even know what it was until we looked it up.
I've installed thousands of microwaves, I have some comments. 1) take the knobs off the stove so you don't accidentally turn the cooktop on while you're doing the install and burn the blanket onto the stovetop 2) always take the new appliance out of the box to inspect for damages before removing the old one 3) do not put your toggle holes in the a & b shaded area holes. Mark those holes, put your toggle holes somewhere else. Holes a&b are your guide, they they should line up with the bracket 4) I usedfiller blocks of wood maybe 1/1000 installs, very unlikely that you need them and they make it more difficult to install the mounting screws
So does anyone know what to do if the cabinets around tihe microwave have a small extension underneath the microwave, preventing the tilt downward needed for removal?
Protip, test the microwave before installing it. Learned the hard way.
yes, especially if someone got rid of the old microwave, because they upgraded the kitchen kit, but had all the brackets provided... test the microwave to be sure it's working properly then get it installed with the necessary tools you have.

The taping of the template for the upper hangers was a life saver
Thanks
Fantastic, that's what we love to hear! Great job on replacing your microwave. 👍
@@lowes It was tough
Damn thing was heavy and awkward at 63lbs but it went it without a hitch!!
Thanks again!!
My microwave also has a vent a hood. Any instructions on removing it?
At the end of the vid: this is a real easy project, didn’t take us too long at all..
Me: wtf
Yeah, just cutting and taping up all the paper templates looks like a pain...
At 8:00, what happens if you don't rotate the exhaust to the right position?
Thank you, with this video hubby & I successfully replaced our Microwave.
That's fantastic, teamwork makes everything better!💙
Are the mounting brackets universal fit or they specific to each manufacturer? I have a broken Frigidaire - can i use the already installed bracket if I get a microwave made by a different manufacturer?
This little help videos are a BIG HELP! Thanks for taking the time to make this :-)
Just to add...if the top of cabinet opening has a lip hang over(for lack of a better term), you will need to lower your template on the back of wall to the same height of the front so that the space is level in the front and back of the unit.
You can trim the template edges so that it fits inside the trim frame.
Thanks, just swapped mine out. Different brands but the bracket lined up the exact same. Only difference was the screw holes up top.
Do the toggle bolts come with the microwave?
You should test the microwave BEFORE you do the prep and hanging. In case it's defective and have to return it.
It went all the way down into the hole, but isn't grabbing anything and tightening.🤨🤔😒
how can anyone give you a thumbs down? this was our exact system. It's crazy simple
What do you do if you have to drill new holes on the bottom of the cabinet for support and the old ones are in the way?
It's important to take the right steps when drilling new holes for cabinet support. If the previous holes are in the way, we recommend filling them with sealant and allowing them to dry fully before continuing your project.
@@lowes Thank you
In regards to the tracks: You state that it might be possible to reuse the track if the new microwave is the same brand. Is it only for the same brands or do all different brands have different tracks and places for the bolts? I was hoping I could just take the old one out and screw in the new one without all the measuring and drilling.
Yeah, the dream is standards. Why not ONE mounting standard for a standard size microwave? Crazy...
I watched this video thinking I could do this. I was wrong.
Did you end up installing?
@@JustinBee369 No :-( but I still need to!
then you are the one that is wrong? Problem solving is a zero for you my friend.

Thank you for the video really help me. Also I used the old frame that was attached to the wall from a frigidaire microwave got the same size and holds my Samsung microwave perfectly. 😀😀😀
Good luck on the Samsung, mine was junk.
Great video! I'm now very confident in going into doing this job
So glad we could help. You got it!
@@lowes I just bought my new microwave from Lowe's last night!
Well done! Just bought the same unit!
Wow. I'm glad he told me to unplug the old one. I would've never thought of that
Love the one-handed "snap on & drill" at the end.
It's not easy.
I have the same microwave. I don't even know where to put the charcoal filter. The instructions are useless.
I've installed thousands of microwaves, I have some comments.
1) take the knobs off the stove so you don't accidentally turn the cooktop on while you're doing the install and burn the blanket onto the stovetop
2) always take the new appliance out of the box to inspect for damages before removing the old one
3) do not put your toggle holes in the a & b shaded area holes. Mark those holes, put your toggle holes somewhere else. Holes a&b are your guide, they they should line up with the bracket
4) I usedfiller blocks of wood maybe 1/1000 installs, very unlikely that you need them and they make it more difficult to install the mounting screws
The part where he rotates the motor of the microwave has me confused. So he flips the motor then where does the exhaust exit out to?
Back into the house.
Thanks for this. There’s no vent?
Thanks. How about that metal plate that has the range lights and vent built into it --It appears the oven sits on this plate...?
So does anyone know what to do if the cabinets around tihe microwave have a small extension underneath the microwave, preventing the tilt downward needed for removal?
Or you can drill thru the paper template.
Fernando did an exceptional job I give him 10 on installation washer and dryer
