I use the low pressure Holly ones in my bug and bus and they work great and never leak, the are a little on the large size though. Everyone should have a fuel regulator if you own a air-cooled vw. Great video!

Great video Thank you i will need to add a gauges and regulator on mine, i got a 1600 and i have a pump install this is the way i purchased it and run great and start great the issue I'm investigating now is when i take a good ride and stop the engine when is hot and try to restart really hard to start. I'm curious if its fuel issue because of the pump i will need to check my carb if it flooding.
Sounds like the old “hard start” issue where it is flooding. If you push the gas pedal down (when it’s hot) it should start easier but that doesn’t fix the underlying problem, and the oil starts to smell like gas. There’s a good chance that your current pump is pushing too much fuel. Best of luck and I hope the gauge and regulator fix it for you.
I like the crank case venting setup you have going on. I am sooner or later going to go electric and would like to try venting through the fuel pump blockoff plate too.
Yes your bigger engine would vent well there. I prefer the Carter pumps, but they got hard to find. So I use a DeRale on the bug but it pulses at low rpm until around 1500rpm it smoothes out…the regulator mitigated that bit didn’t alleviate it. The Carter also pumps it’s advertised psi, whereas the Derale pumps twice it’s advertised psi. Maybe I just got a bad one

I have thought about running a return line set up on my 60 Bug. I would think it would cool the fuel and bleed off extra Fuel pressure. Like fuel injection, but with a carburetor. I wonder if the has been tried.
I know some V8 guys do it, but I think it take a special type of fuel regulator. I’m sure it could be done just haven’t seen it on VW. I’d love to follow this if you do it.
The Derale right now. I still prefer Carter but they were overpriced at that time so I got two Derales (one for back up) for the price of one Carter. It still cost me though because the Dearale demanded a quality regulator to not flood my carbs after shut down

55 idle, 150 main, 175 air correction works perfect on my 1800 here in southern US. Don’t know the deep physics of it, but when I read my plugs they tell that combo is the best so far, and it just runs great. Best of luck with your 1800…they rip when you want to.

are you running a balance tube? I took off my dellortos because of poor gas mileage. Power was there but miles per gallon turned in to miles per feet lol. Still trying to decide what carb or carbs to run.

I do believe in the balance tube for these single throat carbs trying to feed 2 cylinders each. I haven’t forgotten the MPG you were interested in….just filled it up and will let you know👍

Hey Ervin, I’m glad you’re considering another Bug, and thanks for checking out the vids! Gonna be hard to get 150hp from a small build. I think historically that the 1776cc has been the top dog for daily driving, which is where my interest is. But I have to say IMHO, the 1800cc with 88mm pistons and 74mm stroke is the new champion. I’m sure it’s not 150hp, but it rips down the road and the thicker walled cylinders can handle the heat.
@@randall1959 you might be able to. My brother’s aftermarket mechanical pump was putting out too much psi. We shaved the pump rod down a bit, and stacked a couple of extra gaskets underneath it, and it has been reliably keeping proper pressure since then. I just had a bad experience with mechanical pump leaking where the pin and clip are, and I don’t like that if it malfunctions it puts fuel in the case. If you have a good quality mechanical one though it’s all good.
That’s the CSP Bellcrank linkage. So far so good with them. Someone warned me though that CSP has some improvements but send their older misaligned ones to U.S.A and elsewhere. If you try them you might want to beware of that. Otherwise I love them, just need more time to see.

Basically, it seems the “misaligned” ones still function, but force the cable into a slight angle as it leaves the fan shroud. Supposedly they have corrected this, but have to sell the older ones somewhere….sooooo

I was told those regulators that you're using are extremely dangerous because they start leaking.
They are, and they will. I just need it to keep my carbs from flooding until the good one to arrives.

What gearbox are you running in your 65 that is allowing you to sustain 70 mph and not over rev the engine?
Stock. My “sustain” was a purposeful 25 minutes at 3600 rpm, doing 70mph to test this thing vs in-town driving.
