Same! Fucking same!!! As a 12 year old who started listening to metal just a year ago through Rammstein; watching Joe do that on a guitar pushed me beyond the line and made me learn the guitar. 15 years and counting
2003, at the age of 10, I got G3's dvd as a gift. Used to watch it on my old Playstation 2. This song was the first one on the dvd, and my first experience watching a real guitar player doing all those tricks and techniques. Almost 20 years later I'm still here, a bit older, more experienced in music, and still amazed by all the creativity and musicality in this man, Joe Satriani.
One the best performances with this song in my opinion. It's Northrop Auditorium? I buy vhs with concert in september 97 and I still have it. It influenced me that year and I started to learn the guitar. Thanks Joe and he's the best! ❤❤
This G3 was by far the best one. The timing was better. 1996 was still an era where guitar was relevant to general culture, maybe at the very end of it. Eric Johnson was a great choice because he was so different from the others. Everybody used to think he was kind of too introverted, and kind of an opposite to Steve Vai and Satriani who had all this modern equipment and flamboyant attitude, whereas Eric used his vintage Strat, vintage amps, vintage pedals, and a corny haircut. I liked Eric's performance right away. That was how I got to know him, and the same may have happened to a lot of people - it exposed him to a bigger audience. I wonder if there was any friction between Eric and the others.
People are asking why Satriani doesn’t age. It’s because he is a very active musician, doesn’t drink, smoke, or do drugs, is stress free, and stays in shape. The man is 63 and doesn’t look a day past 40. Satriani will be touring well into his 80s, I guarantee you, and the same can he said of his protege, Steve Vai.
Man, I am so grateful that I was fortunate enough to be at that very show!! G3 Live in Concert, Nov. 2nd, 1996, at Northrop Auditorium in Minneapolis Minnesota.
I can't begin to imagine how many times I have listened to cool#9 over the years! Such a great tune from a great musician. On a separate issue, I can confirm that having your birthday on 15th July is, unfortunately, not a sufficient condition for guitar virtuosity.
@@MajorFenix ...assuming you are not pulling my chain. Video Cassette - also known as a VCR. The tapes were called VHS tapes. I had a nice high quality Stereo VCR and would record from VHS to either audio tape (cassette) or minidisc.
@Calon Rocker I don't think Satch is from this planet! He never gets any older looking. I've got thousands of pictures of him in concerts and classes throughout the years he always looks the same! Lmao Time to go play for awhile. 🎸
@@jamesyates2331 Flying In a Blue Dream sure is one of his masterpieces. Yeah, I agree, all of his albums are more or less great. I hope he will keep releasing new music.
A great song from a great album. I find the self titled album to be the most under appreciated and his best work after Surfing, Blue Dream and the Extremist.
The 1st time I've listened to cool#9 I was figuring how he Got this extreme sound ... after I knew it was a whammy 😃. .. Joe you make me dream a lot 'bout guitar You're still my NO. 1 GUITARIST
Whammy pedal, +2 octaves, I think. Cool sound :) I remember when I heard the solo in Killing In The Name by Rage Against The Machine the first time and went: What the hell is that? That's so cool :)
First full live concert to watch for Satriani. Live on VHS at home 1999! this song in particular is what got me hooked on the "STRANGE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC"
I have an Ibanez S too. It's a great guitar. When I was a kid watching this G3 I used to think my S Ibanez was the poor man's Satriani guitar. Turns out the Satriani one may be more expensive, but the S is a very good guitar, on the same level...and it has a mahogany body, which is a plus.
@@rafaelzengo5534 Well, it is somehow. S model came out from Satriani signature as the RG came out from after Vai created JEM with Ibanez. Despite now RG an S models have so many to choose from and even from the Japan boutique (J-craft lineups, I believe).
one of the best and creative music guitarist! Joe is the man! I remember when I got this record back when I was in high-school, brings back memories and this is as cool as #9!
3:09 Almost sure that was the first ever ‘unorthodoxy ’ thing on guitar i’ve ever seen. Almost 20 years. First time i saw that, i couldn’t explain to myself what i did just watched at. Basically my introduction to the definition of ‘shredding’ stuff. Thank you Satch.
This is the original and all these guys were at their best. This really kept me into guitar and when he did that overhand muted part which I understand more now my mind exploded!
So it appears that there's nothing you can't do you blow my mind away gosh if I could just like see you all the time the concert it would be I don't know the best ever I love your work
5:40 That was a new quirky hammer-on thing I've never seen before from him. What the hell... :-) And he manage to make it fit the song... As it pretty much always does... "Crazy" Joe :-)
This is one of the best concert videos / DVDs out there, I think it was the very first G3, it's crazy that the number one most replayed spot in this video is at 4:52 when he turns on the pitch shifter pedal and does that harmonic, I always thought the coolest spot in the whole concert was a little bit after 2:54 when the band stops and he does that lick by himself & the entire crowd erupts in cheers. Definitely the spot that should be the most replayed.
You guys forgot to appreciate the Bass Riffs(1:22) “du dun dun dun duuuuun...du dun dun dun dun duuuuuuUUUn” if you know what I mean. The intro though was like planted in my ears since I’ve heard this song.
The best version of cool #9 by far ❤

You can always count on artists like Joe and their incredible work to save us from the steaming pile of shit that is mainstream music.
Preach guitar
You can also always count on tedious comments like this disparaging working and talented musicians who produce so-called "mainstream music".
Yes! Indeed.
