Great video, lovely stove. Dad was Polish so of course, I like the lavvu but not a fan of floorless tents. I see that's best for having a stove not on top of flammable material. I also enjoyed seeing the special floor mat you use. Looks like a great insulator. Cool that you had a CO detector. Perhaps someone will make tent stoves with a cold air draw from outside to eliminate using preheated air to get sucked into the stove to feed the fire and avoid CO buildup. Less wood will be necessary as you're not constantly heating fresh air that seeps in to replace what went up the chimney. So surprised that for one night you actually cooked a meal instead of opening a can of stew. Looked tasty. Kudos for showing how comfortable one can be with a little planning. Thanks.

Merry Christmas Maggi! Normally I would carry the stove on a sled but I haven’t been lucky enough to get that kinda snow in years. Still worth dragging it out for a camp or two though as it makes for an incredibly cozy camp. It’s around 22lbs. If it were 20 kilos I don’t think I would carry that out 😀. Eventually I will get one of those lighter weight titanium stoves! ATB 🎄

I have a lavvu that has yet to be used in the field and just recently purchased a small wood stove. I'm wondering what you are using to insulate the tarp from the stovepipe. I dont want to put a stove jack on my tent if I can avoid it.
You can purchase a heat shield that goes around the stove pipe that will keep the heat from ever coming in contact with the lavvu. The one I’m using in this video is actually made by Gstove, the company that makes the stove. Hope that helps 👍

I enjoyed watching. Have you ever had a problem with fleas, ticks or spiders when you use the hot tent? Ive heard they come from under the leaves and ground covering when it gets warm in the tent. Just wondering 🤔
No never had any issues when it gets really cold like this 👍. If it was earlier in the season maybe but usually if you have enough cold days it’s fine.
It was purchased directly from Gstove many many years ago. I don’t know if they have a website any longer but you can still find the stove online 👍. It’s called the Gstove heat view.
I got it from a military surplus store. I got it many years ago though. You can still find them but they are a bit harder to find now in the medium and large sizes 👍. Hope that helps

With a stove this size and a large piece of hardwood I would have to wake up every 2 hrs but I don’t wake up anymore to stoke the fire. I use to a long time ago when I first started hot tenting but there is really no reason to. I always bring my winter sleep system so I sleep comfortably when the fire goes out. And when I wake up in the morning, I just restart the fire in the morning to make it warm inside again 👍

Good Nz morning. Have just discovered your channel and like what I see. I see I've got a lot of binge watching to do. Just a slight correction on a word that is used quite frequently, with little consideration of its origin. There is no such thing as a Polish Lavvu. Period. In future just simply call it lavvu. It's a traditional seasonal dwelling of the Sami people. The Poles thought that creating a poncho, and having two buttoned together as emergency shelter, would be a great idea. So "Poncho Tent" or "Poncho Shelter." But to ID it as a Polish Lavuu , is a joke. Like making/creating a boomerang in USA,nd trying to label it as an American boomerang. It's a joke. Anyway, thanks for great content. I have subscribed.

Dude, just find a v in a tree and break stuff that small. Saw is such a waste of time and energy for such small diameter wood. Camping channels just LOVE their saws. 🤦♂️
Camping channels? Not too concerned about what other camping channels do I just use a saw because it’s the right tool for the job. The method you are mentioning works great but it’s sometimes easier said than done to get it to the exact size for the stove. I want to get it to the correct size to maximize the amount of wood I can put. Nothing worse than getting inside your tent, and realizing you can’t fit a piece in The stove. Some of this wood is also a bit denser than you might think. So it doesn’t take very long to make a cut and then break the piece in half. With smaller diameter wood it’s also easier to keep the fire going and adjust the temperature. Especially when regulating the heat in such a small tent, or when cooking 👍. Always appreciate the comments. It definitely helps the channel and the community. ATB

Do you useca co detector in your tent. I invested in one because in a small tent it is so easy for oxygen to be depleted. Also let your stove settings regulate the heat not the type of wood you use. I understand at night maybe put in some oak or harder wood than like popular.. Gary
Hi Gary! Yes I definitely use a CO detector. I show it in the video and in a flat lay photo I post of my gear on the community page and on IG! Very very important to have when hot tenting. I use the vents in the front and the damper to control/regulate the heat however I do this in combination with hardwood/softwoods. What I was referring to in the video while processing wood though was the quality of wood. For instance, it’s hard for the viewer to see that some of the wood I’m using is a bit punky or even slightly damp. I will separate this as this can also be used to regulate the speed/heat of the burn. As you said, a nice dry piece of hardwood is great at night once you damper down the stove! 👍Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! All the Best
Lavuus are not remotely airtight, no need whatsoever for a CO detector. And you don’t need the horizontal slices in the onion…that’s what the layers are for! 🤦♂️

A question or the regular hot tenters - How often do u have to wake up to restock the woodstove? Every 2h? Or every 3h?
