    Awesome video! So how often to water the substrate like that? Weekly?

    • @RhynosRoyals
      @RhynosRoyals  Год назад +1

      Thank you! It just depends on your local humidity and set up. In tubs you do not need to do it much but tanks do not hold humidity as well so more often with those. I say just make sure the substrate is not dry but not soaking wet.

    Great video for beginners. I love using tubs (rack system) because of space issues. But only thing I do different is the probe for the thermostat. I place those sandwiched between the heat mat and tub. That’s the way I was “taught” to do so. Inside the bin makes me nervous that a snake will move it and give me a wrong reading.

    • @RhynosRoyals
      @RhynosRoyals  Год назад

      Yes I am always worried that if they moved the probe it could get dangerously hot.

      if you dont have enough space then dont get one, rack system should get banned

    Do the heat pads not warp the plastic underneath? That’s the only thing I’m worried about when considering tubs

    • @RhynosRoyals
      @RhynosRoyals  Год назад +1

      As long as you use a thermostat to control the heat this is not an issue at all. But you need a thermostat anyways or you could easily kill and cook your snake.

    If I have the UTH, would it be a bad idea to cut out a square in the top of the tub and put a mesh covering for a heat lamp as well? Or Is the UTH enough

    • @RhynosRoyals
      @RhynosRoyals  Год назад

      In most cases the UTH is enough as long as your hot spot is around 89 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit and your ambient temperature in the tub isn't lower than 70 degrees Fahrenheit but preferably around 80 I would say. This will change of course with the time of day and season.
      Tubs are good at holding temperature and humidity as well so this shouldn't be a problem :) And while adding mesh to the top done right is no issue you would be creating an unnecessary weakness in the tub for the snake to potentially escape if the mess comes loose.
      Thanks for watching!

    I've gotten 3 adjustable heating pads on Amazon cheap that all work perfectly when set. I'm wondering why I don't see anyone using them

      There is probably a lot of fear and worry around the more unknown products failing. As long as you do your research I have found a lot of those to be great deals myself. With that said I still have my incubator and main rack systems on more tried and true heat tapes and thermostats.

    U heard of a vivarium made of wood and glass sliding door keeps heat in

    • @RhynosRoyals
      @RhynosRoyals  9 месяцев назад

      I have seen one made of Bamboo from Zen Habitats. I believe Clint's Reptile's did an unboxing and build of one and that was a while ago so they have a lot more products now I hear. I think you would ideally want a dryer animal in a wooden enclosure if memory serves me correctly.

    • @Estelle_playze
      @Estelle_playze 8 месяцев назад

      sounds good, but make sure the wood doesn't chip and that splinters aren't sticking out, Don't want to hurt the ball pythons!

  • @6strings735
    @6strings735 Год назад +2

    I agree. The tub with holes on the sides is a better ball python housing solution compared to glass tanks and screen tops. Glass is problematic when the room air temp is much less than the recommended low temps for a ball python. And of course, screen tops can make it very difficult to maintain even a middle ground humidity if the cage is in an area where the humidity is much lower than the recommended humidity range for the snake. Well done. And since tubs cost no more than a glass tank and come in many sizes, why not?

    • @RhynosRoyals
      @RhynosRoyals  Год назад

      Agreed. I have no problem with tanks of course and it's not that I think they are bad per say. They work fine for a lot of people. They certainly win in style points! I also encourage people to do what works for them and their animals.
      But it is my personal experience that my snakes and many others snakes do much better in the tubs for many of the reasons you mention. But again I encourage people to do what works for them :)

    Why not use the same size tub, but with more height for exploring

    • @RhynosRoyals
      @RhynosRoyals  Год назад +1

      You certainly can! The set up would basically be the exact same. And you can find very nice tubs at home improvement stores that are very strong and lock on 4 sides.

    What is the size (qt. size) of the tub you're using in this video?

    • @RhynosRoyals
      @RhynosRoyals  Год назад

      I believe that one is a 34 qt tub from Hefty. I got that one a long time ago, but sterilite also makes ones just like it as well and neither is very expensive at all.

    I keep my Enchi Pastel Blade Clown Ball Python in a terrarium and I find he is more comfortable in a 60gal tank than a tub. But I think a tub is good for new owners.

    • @RhynosRoyals

      I agree. And I think that if people have a way of keeping ball pythons that works for them and their animal that's all that really matters :)

  • @katreilly3094
    @katreilly3094 Год назад +3

    This size is appropriate for this baby any smaller and is too small but it's always best to get a taller one because babies and adults love to climb it is exercise for them

    • @RhynosRoyals
      @RhynosRoyals  Год назад

      If it's a covered locking tub and you go higher for sure and a locking tub would still hold humidity and cover line of site from the top and still ensure that they feel secure. I use tubs myself for most my snakes, but I still love what people can do when designing beautiful enclosures. I would like to someday make a large one with a fake termite mound in it that they can hide under, like they would use in the parts of Africa where some are found.

    Do ball pythons need heat at night?

    • @RhynosRoyals
      @RhynosRoyals  Год назад

      I would say yes. I have heard of people going cold at night but ambient temperature will almost always drop and while that is ok I feel there should be a spot that they can get heat during the night :)

      Just make sure you have a thermostat to control the temperature of course set at about 90ish Fahrenheit. Otherwise it will get hot enough to injure your snake or worse.

      My balls glass enclosure stays around 85-90 during the day and at night I switch to the night light blue bulbs and it'll drop to 75 which is perfectly fine for night time just not below 70. Just got one again for my son I had one when I was a kid so we are still getting all the extra stuff I didn't have access to like the thermostat switch. We have a digital thermometer on both sides for hot and cold as well as the regular plastic thermometer for temp and a hydrometer for humidity. The heating pad we used for under the hide I think is getting weak already
