For some one new to ball python keeping and the species all together such as my self that's currently trying to pick the right one for the new addition to our house for my 2 sons and my self I was hoping maybe you might be able to narrow down my choices and steer me in the right direction for picking the right one... in your opinion what would be the right morph to ultimately pick...other videos I have watched have said that some morphs are more picky when it comes to eating, things like that so was hoping maybe for some solid advice from your personal hands on experience...thank you and keep up the fantastic fantastic videos I absolutely love every thing you put out great great job....
The good news here is that those claims about certain morphs feeding better than others are generally not true. There are a couple morphs that have some genetic issues like the spider ball python but even those for the most part are just fine as pets. So if you go on Morph Market you can look at examples of every morph that's available in ball pythons and choose what you like and what fits your budget. I know that's not a very specific answer but there are literally hundreds of morphs in ball pythons that you could choose from and it really is mostly about what you like to look at. This is irrelevant but, I’m setting up a bio active ball python enclosure for the first time, do you use a heat lamp at night if so which one not to interfere with the plants day night cycle, I appreciate it
Great question! No heat lamps at all. The lights in my bioactive are just grow lamps for the plants, on a 12 hour timer. The heat from above is a ceramic heating element that produces no light - and it runs 24/7. He also has belly heat from a mat under his warm side hide.
Any advice on getting one to stop eating backwards? I hoped she would grow out of it but nope. Try often to offer the head again after she'!s got it but nope. Can take her like 5 hours to eat but she manages, always tail first 🤦♀️ Thank you!
@@GreenRoomPythons Thank you! Needed that reassurance! She's 3 and has always been an odd eater shall we say. When she was on smaller rats she would bite the tail and wave it around. Was wonderful when she had managed to tear them open 🤢🤣
I was wondering if you have any tips and tricks for snake mites? We had a time of dealing with mites within the first month of getting our ball python. I did research and did everything to get rid of them and so far we've gotten rid of them, but I don't want to put any substrate in his enclosure. Right now we're using paper towels and I know it's okay, but what can we do to prevent another infestation, which I think came from the substrate. What is the best substrate that you recommend for ball pythons?
There's a greater chance that the mites came from contact at a pet store or maybe a snake came in with mite eggs already on them. Snake mites are specific to snakes and unless the substrate is produced in the same room that a bunch of snakes live in, it's impossible that the substrate would have snake mites in it. You're pretty safe using just about any substrate that's appropriate for a ball python. I would order your substrate rather than picking it up from a pet store though because you can often bring mites home from the pet store If there are snakes in the store.
Thanks Joshua! Glad you like em. A donation to the channel of at least $5 will get you a sticker pack with all the stickers. Just Venmo or PayPal me (info is in this video's description), then just give me your address and I'll get em out to you!
I would like to see a back heat verses belly heat comparison. One long strip of heat tape attached to the back as opposed to heat tape attached to the rear third underneath each individual enclosure or tub
@@wwlchen1178 true, it depends on the type of enclosure, type of snake and how the hide is situated. Back heat definitely has to be done right if its done.
The original setup that I purchased came with back heat , and they seem to be okay with it and I'm seeing at least two of them staying up front a lot. There's not much information or debate that I can find on the subject. There's at least one youtube breeder that moved all of his racks to back heat. He lost some snakes due to some kind of failure, and felt it would be a lot safer , and less likely to start a fire.
@@GreenRoomPythons awesome thank you very much! Have learned tons from watching your videos , recently rescued a BEL and am looking for some stuff , I'll definitely support your shop .
We have two new family members. 1 is just about 1-2 years old. The other 4-5 years old. Both are kinda rehomed rescues. How can we really know how old they are? One is 20" about. The other 4-5'. We have yet to really stretch her out with a tape measure. We are loving how we Humanize their behavior. The older girl may have a blind eye. Not sure. She was burnt by an overheated heating pat. SO QUESTIONS: How to age them? Can I put some ointment on her tummy that has the scarring? It is very dry and looks a little irritated. Maybe I am humanizing her boo boo. I kiss it even. She is so curious. They both are. How do people think Ball Pythons want to live in a tank and just lay there all day? They want to get out and explore. I would love to see the enrichments that are available. THANK you for all the education. We are so much better family members having the help.
There's really no way to age them because they grow at different rates and it's impossible to tell visually how old they are. That burn might benefit from silver sufadiazine cream but it depends on how new it is. If it's old and scarring over, it will just get a little better with each shed. Ball pythons are very sleepy buggers. Once they are used to their enclosure you'll find that they sleep about 20+ hours a day, but it is good to provide them with an enriched environment and occasional handling sessions to give their brain and work out. Congrats on your new snakes!

No question about snakes is irrelevant. Don't ever hesitate to ask.🐍🐍
@@Scotts-Thoughts i agree!
Any tips on time to handle the bp? Day or night?
It's good to handle them when they're already out and about, so evening is a great time.
I really like the black. How do I get one?
Thanks! Sticker packs are now going out to Patreon subscribers. patreon.com/greenroompythons
Black stickers but both are nice 👌
That's what we went with :-)
Black stickers, definitely.
That's what we ended up going with :-)
Any advice on getting one to stop eating backwards? I hoped she would grow out of it but nope. Try often to offer the head again after she'!s got it but nope. Can take her like 5 hours to eat but she manages, always tail first 🤦♀️
Thank you!
It's no problem at all. It takes them longer but some snakes eat that way. As long as they're eating, it's all good
@@GreenRoomPythons Thank you!
I love Kent 😂❤
Definitely like the black ones better.
Cool, thanks Dan!!
2 years late but black is the better sticker
Black is great
Thanks Pebble Tongue! Thats what I'm sticking with :-)
Black stickers look awsome how do I get me one ?
Thanks Joshua! Glad you like em. A donation to the channel of at least $5 will get you a sticker pack with all the stickers. Just Venmo or PayPal me (info is in this video's description), then just give me your address and I'll get em out to you!
I would like to see a back heat verses belly heat comparison.
One long strip of heat tape attached to the back as opposed to heat tape attached to the rear third underneath each individual enclosure or tub
Thats a great idea! I've thought about doing a back heated rack. I think both work well, if I do some back heat, I'll make that comparison video :-)
I understand that belly heat will provide more heat to the snake. Back heat isn't suitable for every situation.
@@tpenn2264 yeah I think back heat works just fine for ball pythons. Belly heat has just been the standard so we don't see back heat setups as often
Hey what’s up bro I’m in the valley also north hills area quick question do you breed your own rodents ??
Hey neighbor! I dont breed rodents - too much work and odor ;-)
I order f/t in bulk.
So you don’t feed live at all
@@davidgonzalez-mv4wl not unless I absolutely have to. Right now all my snakes are on f/t
I need to look in to that smell remover. Didn't even know that thing exists.
It works well on certain smells

Apparently "once you go black..." works for stickers as well.

Don't kiss your snake's boo boos, Lovey. Could have bacteria & also u could transfer your own bacteria. Kiss boo boos from afar🙂💕
Hey bob how can you tell if your feeder rodent are going bad
You'll be able to tell by the smell if they're thawed out. And if you have rodents that are freezer burned I would get rid of those
@@GreenRoomPythons thanks bob ,can u do a video about it because I haven’t found no one who have
@@901PYTHONS Yeah I could touch on it next time I do a feeding video. I don't know that it's enough for an entire video but it should be discussed at least
