I work at Red Wing in the welt department and make these almost every day. I need to correct you on one thing. The welt is stitched on with the black thread you see, into the rib beneath the insole. The midsole (that thin, almost invisible layer beneath the welt) is stitched onto the welt with the white thread that runs around the top of the welt. Glad to see people enjoying the stuff I help make 👍
Whoever is putting a new sole on my boots need to hurry up. It’s been 5 weeks now I’m told it’ll be 8 weeks :( if I have to wear my docs to work 3 more weeks I might cry 😂
I'm honestly okay with sponsors. You're going to be cutting the shoes in half. There's nothing to hide,. If a company is willing to pay for you to show the world the flaws in their products, more power to you.
Seriously? It completely defeats the purpose of a review to be sponsored by the company who makes the product. They have those already--they're called advertisements. He was obviously picking and choosing when to criticize random shit, like sneaker shanks and chrome tanning. Personally, I haven't watched a Rose Anvil video in months because I was tired of the bias. Now that I know he's not taking sponsors, I'm definitely gonna keep up with the channel.
When I graduated High School and told my Dad I hated school and he didn't need to worry about sending me to college - he went and got me a big old used Snap-On toolbox and a pair of Red Wing Boots. Been happy ever since.

On one hand I understand for him, the financial aspect of it, the problem is you let the company hand pick their product so it might not be representative of what the average consumer experience with the brand might be. Also even if I do believe in his integrity I can understand why someone would think he might be less incline to criticize the company that sponsored him. I personally don’t care either way, but I understand people who feel that way.

I would pay $80-$100 for a pair a boots once or twice a year. Always buying a new brand or model trying to find something better. One day my wife said to try on some redwings. They were $225. I ended up buying them. I’ve had the same pair for 4 years and they’re still great. Definitely the best bang for buck boots I’ve found. $200 a year, every single year on carhardt or Cat boots. Or $225 for 4 + years. No brainer
@@soulesslemming I’ve been wearing ariat steel toes for a while but I always have trouble with the inside lining where your heel slips in comes loose and I have to cut it out to get my foot out😂
I was the same- would get a pair of timberlands every year or maybe every two years. I figured they were better value than trainers/sneakers but their price kept rising and the quality didn’t… I also never looked after them. My gf got me some Red Wings to celebrate my 10 years of sobriety in the new year and I’m sold on them- and already looking at other colours just 7 months later. As I get older, better quality classic pieces make so much more sense. “Buy well, buy once.”
I owned 2 pair of these exact boots, I bought them in the 90's. Back then the quality was excellent. They become a part of your body once they are walked in. They will survive everything that you throw at them. They will get scratched, worn down but you'll love them just the same. The best shoes I have ever worn. Subscribed for your integrity about sponsors en choosing to earn less money by doing the right thing! Refreshingly honest. Congrats
If you’re gonna be buying Redwings (especially if it’s for work) it is totally worth a trip to one of their stores for a proper fitting. The service people are exceptional and know what they are doing (also, the custom insoles make a huge difference if you are wearing these 8+ hours a day). As others have said, a little more expensive but much more comfortable and durable than any other boot I’ve worn.
I got my foot measured, got my boots, couldn't wear them more than 2 hours due to friction of my pinky toes, had to go and replace for a bigger number, thankfully the retail employees were super chill about it
@@cdl93I had similar issue. They said I was close to a wide measurement but insisted the extra width would look sloppy. 3 pairs of 875’s later I said to hell with it and went E2. Whether or not my foot is wide they should know the 875’s run narrow. I feel the stores did me a disservice.
190 lb 40 year old guy here, I have had my moc toe ( those exact boot) boots for over a year… and I absolutely love them. I Highly recommend them. I have worn all kinds of boots, by far for my usage these boots are absolutely the best. Quality of leather is very very good. Brake in period was longer than ideal ( i did NOT use any oil/ break in conditioner) …. Highly recommended getting your foot measured from the store. I'm an automotive technician and bought my first pair of Red Wings around 1985. Over 35 years later, they are still the only brand I wear. Just had my current pair resoled. That pair is going on 15 years. Best books ever made!
I’d be around 15 years as well but they wouldn’t resole my last two pairs. Now I’m in the market for another brand which sucks because I love my Redwings.
As an Ironworker I can say great boots but for my trade they go a lot quicker then that. I probably buy boots 2 maybe 3 times a year cause the soles and stitching blows out the sides from sparks
I've had a pair of Red Wings going on 3 years now and they're worn 10 hours a day 5 days a week. Best $250 I ever spent. My 2 gripes with them are 1) when the boots finally wear out, they do not have the same model that worked for me previously. 2) some boots are made in China or other Asian countries. They quality seems good just not made in USA.
@k quo, they do happen to be more stylish, but they aren’t built for style. I think the ‘high quality leather boot’ is a style right now lol. They are built very classically/traditionally and do have merit in being a long lasting boot, depending on how you wear/treat the boot.
@@garymckee448 Danner did the same and lost me as a customer. Sure, they have a few models still made in Portland for a high premium but I just moved on altogether.

The Cadillac of boots. Been wearing the past 34 years of very hard on boots construction type work. They never let me down! Brand new pair of Pecos in the closet. I love how he said you can work in them if you have to lol My dad had worn them for 3 years now and had the re- soled 2 times he loves them Myself i have the Irish setters like this and they are great 👍
My bf had some redwing boots custom fitted for himself. He was in taekwando and has a habit of not lifting his feet as frequently as most people. He was also a tall guy so his feet and shoes needed to support a lot of weight. He was so upset when he lost those boots while moving. I'd never seen a pair of shoes last him that long without ANY tangible wear and tear. He would run through shoes like no other but those redwings lasted 5 years with him until he lost them
Don't forget to also do Redwing's 1907 Moc. It's less well known than the ones in this video but I think it's a better boot. It has a different last and different construction (storm welt)
Just got my first pair. Switched over from Tim pros. Work in wet conditions almost all the time and I was going through a pair of Tim pros of all different kinds about every 6 months, they almost always fail in the same way no matter how much I water proof and maintain them. From what I hear red wings will fix abused boots so that will probably work out great for me.
I wear red wings Irish setter version of these for work (I work at a garden center on my feet in water and dirt all day lifting and climbing) and I love them!! Worth every penny and I live in Minnesota so I’m happy to support a made in America brand.
The 100 year old machine thing is interesting. At my factory job here in Indiana we make be ball jar lids. Still using the same 40 ton presses they used back in the old days too. They’re a handful to maintain
The last pair I bought was the dark leather, waterproof, plastic toe and I think sole with speed laces. I' like never buy another pair of boots without speed laces. One of the best boots I've ever owned!
I’m far more inclined to buy from a brand that is willing to be transparent about the construction of their product by literally having you tear apart their footwear. It gives me much more confidence in the purchase because I know exactly what I’m getting into. Please take all the Sponsorships you want. Its all part of how you grow and get noticed. I’m sold on Keen wore them on the flight line for Cal Fire Aviation I’ve had Red Wings, I think Keen are a littl better. However I had to wear safety toes. Keen Pittsburg were my favorites 😎
I've been wearing the super sole, and now the super sole 2.0 since 2006. Each pair lasts over two years in my industry as a steel working defense contractor for the navy. Best decision I made in my professional life next to a great mattress is a great pair of boots.
The best boots I ever owned were made by Red Wing for the USAF. They were pole climbing boots, steel toe and shank with a 1.5 inch thick sole. I could walk and stand on steel all day and my feet would never hurt. Pity that they only lasted 6 years.
I’ve owned 6 pairs of the 10877’s (work version of the 877 heritage), 1 pair of the 877 heritage boot, a pair of Thorogoods, a pair of Irish Setters and about 5 other styles of Redwing boots. The 10877’s are by far my favorite boots. The Thorogood boots feel amazing when trying them on, but can’t compare to the comfort of the 10877’s after the 2 week break-in. The Redwing boots can be worn 16 hours a day, 6 days a week with a resole every 6 months. Yes, I’m a hard working family man in the construction field. The Thorogood’s broke down faster and are much heavier at the base, leg and body fatigue sets in after 8 hours. The 8” Redwing will feel like a sock after 1 month of use, the Thorogood felt heavier and heavier as the year went on. Getting an 8” boot allows you to lock the boot further up your leg which keeps you firmly planted in the boot and allows your leg to lift the boot rather than your ankle. Also, the 877 heritage leather felt heavier over the 10877 and I like the black eyelets on the 10877 over the nickel on the 877’s. Love these cutaway vids!! Dope channel.
Besides the well-researched info that I get from Rose Anvil commentaries, it is unmatched by the joy I get from watching an expensive boot cut in half!
I have been wearing red wings for near 20 years, the most comfortable boot I've ever put on my feet for work. Once broken in its even better but a very sad day when they are no longer useable
@@MrAsmontero when I could afford them , I had worn them for almost 25 years , steel toed 6" shank logger boots, and i wore them everyday, working construction , irrigation , plumbing. They lasted between two and three years and this included riding motorsickles. I had to oil them up every month or so. It's the only boot where my foot actually was comfortable in. Forget Walmart and all these other 6 month boots for $65 , you may as well lay out the $300 and get something that fits good and look good. Sorry I ran on.
Hey, I’d actually want it if you took sponsorships for your honest reviews. Gives you money and gives us discount codes we can use to buy the shoes at a lower price. I think that works out very well, whoever says he shouldn’t take sponsorships don’t know what they’re talking about.
As someone who owns a pair and who has owned a pair for several decades, I can attest to their comfort & durability. That is why I love them. They are expensive, but people need to understand that they can last years. And they aren't comfortable when they are new, as the leather needs to be loosened up with wear, but once they are broke in, they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I prefer the Chukka's, but they are all great. My only complaint is the rubber bottom, which get slippery when walking on wet surfaces. They need better traction.
Sponsors are better than just random adverts, at least there is a connection and we know they too support you. Loving and Sharing your content, already subscribed.
I honestly feel sponsors are fine - even if they are ones sending you the boots. You just gotta do your own of criteria and independent review; I think MrMobile always nails it with a very quick verbal disclaimer. There can be pressure to say positive things but I think when you set your own rules, towards the sponsorship - the Companies have to adhere to your own guidelines/comment, or choose not send you any pair. As much as we can see your sincerity to dissociate yourself from any possible allegation of favouritism/bias; You can’t just be absorbing the costs, at least not at this sub count. I am sure most of us are able to form our own evaluations from your videos at least visually on the construction etc to know how the boots exactly are.

Thanks for the all the advice and videos on boots. I'll be switching my boots so they last longer. I'm ready to move aircraft at O'Hare 😎✨
I wouldn't say I'm obsessed with Red Wings, but the fact that the first pair of work boots I bought from them lasted 5 years of working and motorcycle riding does mean they're the only boots I buy.
I wear redwing loggermax. The toughest longest lasting work boot I've ever had. I've tried everything from wolverine to dan post to ariat. Always find myself going back to redwing. First of all thank you. Second, if I may make a polite suggestion. I , and many others buy boots for function and not necessarily looks. There was a great deal of time spent on the type and color of the leather and zero mention on arch support and flex. I understand these types of reviews can be anecdotal but I need something. I can tell you from experience, if you maintain a redwing, thorogood, Danner, or any similar made US work boot, they’ll last years if used for construction or agriculture work. Learning how to properly maintain and finding a cobbler who will re sole and re stitch as necessary... they’ll last 10 years. In that time, I normally need them resoled about every 14-18 months. If you use them for casual or dress wear..... they will last your lifetime if properly maintain.

I'd caution any welder to please avoid moc toe boots. They will catch and hold welding/grinding sparks. Also, the stitching will eventually burn up, causing the boot to come apart. That's why i always recommend Pecos boots for welding. Also, Pecos are much easier to kick off, if you catch a hot one and need to get them off asap!

Dude no joke on the break in. I use mine as hiking boots, I've put about 30 miles on them so far and they're STILL breaking in. Hands down toughest and one of the best fitting boots. I'm rough on my boots and for a while was going through cheaper brands every 6 months. I will say, the Irish Setter 8" composite toe insulated moc (my winter work and hiking boot) is hands down the most comfortable boot I've ever worn, although they're definitely not the quality of the red wings
I've owned my Red Wing Moc's since 2017, worn pretty much every day on construction job sites. Extremely comfortable with all the walking/time I spend on my feet. Can attest to the grind breaking the boots in is but they are extremely comfortable. These are my first pair of Red Wings and I will buy more down the road.
Absolutely love my red wings. The style i wear has a kevlar saftey toe and i work 10 hours a day in a machine shop. Super comfortable and if your actually working in them, they dont take that long to break in. Treat myself to a new pair every 4-5 years because the chemicals i work with are hard on the the learher and will dry and crack it over time. Like i said 4-5 years around very harsh solvents and oils worn for 10 hours a day
I’ve owned several pairs of this model. One important note and what makes them exceptional in a way is the leather reinforcing on the interior friction areas. Where most boots use a fabric of some kind that wears through overtime, redwing adds a leather piece that polishes smooth with friction and never wears out. In my opinion that’s what contributes most to the longevity of these boots.
Another thing a high gusset does is prevent, or really slow the march of dry grass seeds up the fold and into your socks and then your ankle skin. If you work in the field in areas where the grass is really dry in the summer, with wild oats, fox tails, goat grass, and other nuisances, those high gussets are life savers.
I bought their steel toe work boots, $350 Canadian dollars, killed my feet for two weeks to break in. Why do I need to break in a boot designed for me to work long shifts for? I was a heavy duty mechanic and the floors were concrete and shifts were 8-10-12 hours.
@@14goldmedals Im with you bro. Im a commercial electrician and wore these pieces of shit for 7 months. All they gave me were blisters that kept coming back, corns that took half a year to heal, and constant abrasions around the back of my ankles. I think this boot is bought mainly by hipsters more than construction workers.

I'm honestly okay with sponsors. You're going to be cutting the shoes in half. There's nothing to hide,. If a company is willing to pay for you to show the world the flaws in their products, more power to you.
Agreed
Sponsors affect objectivity
I agree, especially given how expensive these shoes are. I understand he makes money from the videos but that’s still a lot of overhead cost.
@@remb9614 lol not a lot of overhead, and the shoes are not that expensive.

Honestly i had no problem with the sponsors, especially when you see how expensive some of these boots can get
On one hand I understand for him, the financial aspect of it, the problem is you let the company hand pick their product so it might not be representative of what the average consumer experience with the brand might be. Also even if I do believe in his integrity I can understand why someone would think he might be less incline to criticize the company that sponsored him. I personally don’t care either way, but I understand people who feel that way.
He makes enough to buy any boot just on youtube revenue he just greedy
yeah it’s a clear conflict of interest. turns the whole thing into an advert. That’s why the companies do it and that’s how psychology works.

No brainer
Agreed, it definitely depends on your work load you put on your boots. 4 years is amazing. Anything beyond that is icing.

Carhartt boots are shameful. You did the right thing going with Redwing
I owned 2 pair of these exact boots, I bought them in the 90's. Back then the quality was excellent. They become a part of your body once they are walked in. They will survive everything that you throw at them. They will get scratched, worn down but you'll love them just the same.

I have a pair of loggers that are 40 yrs old, been resoled 6 times, still going strong
Who do you use for resole
If you’re gonna be buying Redwings (especially if it’s for work) it is totally worth a trip to one of their stores for a proper fitting. The service people are exceptional and know what they are doing (also, the custom insoles make a huge difference if you are wearing these 8+ hours a day). As others have said, a little more expensive but much more comfortable and durable than any other boot I’ve worn.
Thank you for advice, will follow it.
I am looking into a 11inch. Steel toe. Nice laces. Any suggestions in Red Wing?
As an Ironworker I can say great boots but for my trade they go a lot quicker then that. I probably buy boots 2 maybe 3 times a year cause the soles and stitching blows out the sides from sparks
My current Red Wings are about 10-15 years old but I only use them one in a while. I think they are worn out but they are better than having wet feet.
The heritage collection is MIUSA…
@@BOICG isn’t the heritage collection not really work boots though? It’s more like “style”
@k quo, they do happen to be more stylish, but they aren’t built for style. I think the ‘high quality leather boot’ is a style right now lol. They are built very classically/traditionally and do have merit in being a long lasting boot, depending on how you wear/treat the boot.

As someone who owns a pair and who has owned a pair for several decades, I can attest to their comfort & durability. That is why I love them. I would like to see you actually wear the boot before you cut them up!
Just to see how they look on too
sometimes he does instagram stories a day or so before
lmao- he just mentioned how we could make the vids better. Just saying they could look like clown shoes when they are on.
Can you please do Thursday Moc Toe boot? I wanna see how they hold up against these
a giant wall sized glass case of each shoe you've cut open would be so awesome. floor to celing, showing one good side of the shoe, and next to it, the "inside" of the shoe.
Used to wear redwing moc toe always until I got introduced to Thorogood moc toe. That was a game changer. They had a shorter break in period and the sole lasted much longer. Just over all a better boot. They’re also Union made in the US. I’ve noticed most guys on the job sites are going to Thorogood boots in general ever since Red Wing started making some of their boots in China.
💯 percent agreed just weighs a tad bit more but super durable and the soles are so awesome,,, but on the other hand or foot backpacking love my setters to me footwear is made for certain applications just like my loafers at home. LOL
Im not a fan if “break in” boots should fit and not hurt for days while you wear them. I bought my red wing shoes from same store and salesman for 25 years. He never failed to get me into a boot that fit . Sadly he passed 5 years ago. New sales people at red wing are not so good at getting boots that fit me. I had to go to thorogood this time ….
@@kenthetalkingpen2518 back in the 90s I had a pair of Danner Sundowners that were made in Italy that was a fantastic boot for hiking. Unfortunately that boot is made in China now but at least it’s still in production.
@@Mac-mu9cs I’ve noticed that too about the salespeople at Redwing. It’s usually some kids. I do love Redwing Heritage series boots and the fact they are made in the USA. I do own a pair of the 1907 classic moc toe boot. The sole was absolutely terrible but the construction of the boot itself seems like good quality. I also just casually wear them out and never for work.
I just stick with my Thorogoods for work.
Im not a fan of the moc toe or what I call whimpy soles. I feel like im putting on a heavy sneaker? To each their own we need to buy what we like. Redwing bs Thorogood? We will see either one had a boot I really liked both had short comings BUT I found a boot that fit from thorogood , something redwing failed me on.
I’ve been in a construction union for 13 years now & I wanna say around my 6th year in I would always wonder why all carpenters I came across would have these on. Until that time I wore Timberlands ... anyway , I asked a random carpenter on my site why do they all wear that specific boot. The guy pretty much said just try a pair on. I went & did just that , I went & tried a pair on & ended up buying the 8inch heritage boot. I’ve never bought a diff brand since , it literally feels like you’re working with slippers on. The most comfortable boot that I’ve ever had 100%
Because they wanted to be Ironworkers..
Ironworker triple Eddie. Had my foot molded when I got my first wings 20 years ago. Loved them have 3 pairs. Just get the sole redone every few years and oil them up and you have a boot for life. Fantastic boots.
been wearing Redwing almost 20 years, love em! dang im not on instagram :(
So what you're saying is: I have incredibly low standards, you should reconsider the whole being alive thing☠
@@farkusfairbanks9353 you seem miserable. Seek a better outlet to let that anger out fam
I worked in a steel mill until 1986 when I graduated from College. Prior to leaving the steel mill, to pursue my business degree, I was able to get a brand new pair of Steel Toe Red Wings. It is now September of 2021 and I still wear the same boots. I have kept them clean and supple, they are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn.
You are full of it.
Lmao you either are a liar or you move as much as a 3 toed sloth.
I’ve had these Loggermax steel toes since 2015, and they are Still waterproof, still wear really good!!
Man take as many sponsors as you can and make as much money as you can, You're choosing to put out this content for us so why shouldn't your audience let you make your money as well?? thats so stupid and its not like your sponsorships ever changed your opinion on the shoes in the first place. Not to mention you actually help people interested in buying the shoe/boot in question by providing a discount code so its a win for everyone. Take the sponsors man you deserve it.

Exactly
When you get a new pair of boots like that hose them down while you're wearing them till they're soaking wet wear them around let it dry do it again and they will form right to your feet it's just like doing a horse saddle
Halirous, girlfriend used to do her jeans the same way back in the 80's.
Quite a bit of fun actually, especially if I was the one responsible for keeping them wet....
Best part about growing up near Red Wing, was knowing people at Red Wing Shoe, getting great prices and great quality boots.
Not anymore.
Can you tell me how these size up please ?
Much appreciated
Another thing a high gusset does is prevent, or really slow the march of dry grass seeds up the fold and into your socks and then your ankle skin. If you work in the field in areas where the grass is really dry in the summer, with wild oats, fox tails, goat grass, and other nuisances, those high gussets are life savers.
I never understood why my dad always bought red wings until my feet stopped growing and it was worth it to buy them. Amazing boots
got mine about 3years ago, and still love em. BUT breaking those boots in, was a painfull experience 😆 toes and heel still hurt thinking back 🙈
I bought their steel toe work boots, $350 Canadian dollars, killed my feet for two weeks to break in. Why do I need to break in a boot designed for me to work long shifts for? I was a heavy duty mechanic and the floors were concrete and shifts were 8-10-12 hours.
thats life🤷♂️ you gotta work for the good things...imo.
@@14goldmedals Im with you bro. Im a commercial electrician and wore these pieces of shit for 7 months. All they gave me were blisters that kept coming back, corns that took half a year to heal, and constant abrasions around the back of my ankles.
These boots were probably great for workers during WW2, but there's no way in hell any of those guys would wear these boots today compared to the modern boots that are designed solely around comfort and durability.
I think this boot is bought mainly by hipsters more than construction workers.
Most comfortable working boots for the working man!!!?,I absolutely love them...thanks for the vid...
I have a pair of Redwing Moc's and A pair of Black Thorogood Moc's. I like the Redwings far better. A lot of people say they find the thorogoods to be more comfortable but I didn't. I had a break-in period with the thorogoods and I loved the redwings from day 1
Go to the store and they will measure for you. I was always a 12, but they sold me a 11.5 and it is perfect.
No shank? I figured there would be one, but I haven’t done much looking at mock toes, only iron ranger types. Also, usually you fully deconstruct half the shoe, I’m sure it’s a pain but would have been interesting to see more details on the cork and the midsole. Thanks for your videos.
The wedge design doesn't need the shank like a boot design that has a heel cap.
Former Red Wing retailer and shoe repairman. All I will wear is Red Wing!!! Still the best size range and quality! I have a pair of 875 Red Wing's from 1980 resoled 3 times and can be done again!!
can I say I found this video in 2023 and it was so awesome to hear you say you were hoping for 200k subs by the end of the year which seemed like a longshot, only to see this video was 3 years old and you currently have 2.2million subs. Hell yeah.
