Casey Affleck Speaks Out About His Oscar Controversy | TIME
/ timemagazine
He sounds like he's still in Manchester by the Sea
More like "A Ghost Story"
Alex Lennox lol I remember thinking he was doing a voice in Jesse James and then seeing everything else he did
Kind of remind me that police station scrne tho
This comment made me laugh
dnwilliams that movie was the first I ever saw him in and he really struck me with his performance and yes his voice as well
This guy naturally sounds depressed.
Tom N seems his acting in Manchester by the sea
Jhonatan thought the exact same 😂
It seems it is his semibiographical movie
Tom N true and his brother Ben is no different
He's a natural mumbler. I really like his voice.
This is why the Manchester by the sea role was so natural for him he is that character. It's a great performance that deserved the awards.
Thank you so much. I appreciate it
@@caseyaffleck7820 get a life
His natural personality is the exact same as his character in the film. It’s kinda weird, like he didnt have to act at all in the movie.
@@Liam.2000 he's wonderful and deserves great roles. Funny how money made those women feel better. I don't know what it says about our society.
@@Liam.2000 You don't know his natural personality, you haven't even met him. Pretty sure he did have to act at least to convey unimaginable grief of losing three little children through his own fault.
deserved that oscar. manchester by the sea is one of my favorites
Thomas Clifford these people would give an Oscar to Trump if he got nominated so yeah
@Thomas Clifford Don't judge the art by the artist.
If Leonardo Di Caprio was accused of sexual assault 2 years from now, does that mean he didn't deserve it for The Revenant?
What about Heath Ledger or any other actor?
Also not a huge fan of The Revenant btw.
@Thomas Clifford Casey Affleck didn’t rape little girls he made remarks and allegedly threatened someone give me a break
He is falling about Manchester by the sea, though
This interview is pointless because Casey can not talk about this case in details because of court order. The case is settled and we will never know what really transpired. The END
Actors have only started apologising for their abusive and entitled behaviour towards women because for the first time ever, they are held accountable for their actions and risk losing their career. As much as I think Casey is a good actor, if he really cared about the matter he would have spoken out earlier.
He legally can't discuss about the subject matter of the civil suit because it was already settled out of court
People like you aren’t very smart…
Funny how money made it all go away.
@@deniseg812 unfortunately there's no publicly released details of the settlement so to protect both parties involved as well as I'm assuming provisions for neither of them to discuss about the matter at any meaningful length to the press. However, you do realize that the whole point of civil lawsuits is to seek monetary and financial compensation from the accused party right? Dude was never facing time to begin with. So yes, money does make your problems go away, but that's because, by the prosecutor' choice, the whole point of a civil lawsuit
Good that he has accepted culpability and is trying to be, and do, better. He's a phenomenal actor and I hope he can grow as a human and do more movies.
What did he do? He got naked in front of someone and asked them to sleep with him they said no so he put back on his clothes and left, then on the set of a film he called some lady fat... Thats it. No rape, no assault, nothing.
That act alone is sexual harassment.
@@PrettyBoyKii Exactly. Who does that?
They said no?! Could never be me
Trust me I believe this is an issue in the industry but I don’t believe Casey did anything wrong.
Thomas Clifford we don’t know if that happened. That’s a claim that hasn’t been determined to have actually taken place. It’s likely that he had said some things that were inappropriate due to the chaotic nature of the film set, but I also find it likely many things were exaggerated when it came to the civil suit.
@@Jared_Wignall He was SUED BY 2 WOMEN ONE A PRODUCER. SHE REJECTED HIM THEN HE SAID DONT WORRY ABOUT COMING TO WORK TOMORROW AFTER HE SLIPPED INTO HER BED. HES A SCUMBAG.
Meryl Streep applauded for Roman Polanski at the Academy Awards in 2003. who has never faced jail for his crimes
Oh no she clapped send her to prison. Don’t worry about the entire theater of people who were applauding either. Let’s not focus on Polanski let’s focus on Meryl Streep.
there all peados
Because he made an awesome movie and he deserved the Oscar. Period
People worshiped Bill Cosby for years, that man had applause for decades for his routines. But what your saying is we should condemn everyone who clapped. Before you type on your keyboard write on a piece of paper what you're going to say and sound it out first while getting your parents to sign a permission slip for you to leave a comment.
Roman Polanski? Yes he did. Dude was in prison back in the 70s, escaped from prison and fled from the US and to this day he’s not allowed in the US or else he’ll be arrested.
His acting in that movie is impressive. The pain tha the carácter Góes through. He doesnt exterioriza, he intenalizes the pain. He doesnt to show the suffering, he wants to hide, but it só much that he cant.
Amazing performance.
He's so talented. Glad he got the Oscar he deserved that year. Just because someone is accused of something, doesn't mean they are guilty. Give him the benefit of the doubt.
c robinson Do you see anyone accuses Matt Damon, Hugh Jackman, Ryan Goslings, etc etc for molesting actresses? No, right? Case closed.
@@messundo490 wtf does that have to do with anything???????

This guy made a mistake he clearly understands his error let him move on. Some of you that bash him are absolutely pathetic.
we dont have to. its our choice. some people take the freedom to chose forgiveness so let other people decide for themselves if they dont forgive him
@Jonny Burrito who was talking about me...would you say that to the actual victim of sexual assault ? would you force a victim to forgive? thats not up to you to decide whether to forgive him or not! in terms of fanbase its up to them to decline any kind of support. if people feel free opt for forgiveness then let people decide for themselves not to...you cant force people how to react to his " mistakes"
@Jonny Burrito, Well said. I totally agree with you.
@@TheSmily4ever Someone said it, sexual assault is not an error.
I'm a girl (26 but not a woman yet in my eyes, that's why I used that word) and I was on his side from day one. If you notice his explanation, he's not trying to justify his behavior nor make excuses for what he's done, but he's simply trying to make people see that sometimes, being the one who hurts others hurts, too. In times of stress and anger (aimed at everything but the person standing in front of you in most cases), things come across very different from what one meant or what it would've felt like in a different situations. I had strangers saying brutal things to me and I had good friends crossing the line, we're all HUMAN. HE. IS. HUMAN. Not innocent, but a flesh and blood still. And with his childhood and his background and even the package his (now ex) wife is carrying with her combined with his tendency to lose his temper, are all huge factors that contributed to him behaving in ways he shouldn't have. If you listen to his voice and look into his eyes you'll see a good person who had made a huge mistake. But nothing more dramatic than that, really. I'm glad he talked, and I love him deeply as an actor and believe in him as a person.
הגר גדליוביץ' Agreed
Come back when your grown then.
angellover02171 At least she has proper grammar.
People make mistakes. At least my typos aren't locking women rooms and threatening to gang rape them. But people make mistakes I guess.

I like this guy anyways
I believe Casey and it pissed me off so bad that Bree Larson sort of ruined his Oscar moment with her so called “silent protest “...It wasn’t the time or the place.
totally agree
Yeah Bree larson really needed to talk directly with casey about the matter instead of judging him and condemning him the way she did
Troll Bait 💯 agree
Her silence "spoke for itself". Yes, an stupidly immature action.
It was just an opportunity for her to get some publicity at his expense
Although I am staunch supporter of the Me Too movement, I believe Casey does deserve our forgiveness - he seems particularly sincere in his apologies.
yes, the way he described it was authentic and he did say many things that were his fault. In a longer video he talked about he is doing about it.
Sometimes the whole population learns from other people's mistakes too... He said the whole environment was unprofessional, which is definitely a problem, but never a good enough excuse if things are left unchanged. A group of people create a toxic environment and the truth is in most such environments nothing ever changes until everyone gets hurt the same way. It also takes a lot of courage to learn from your own mistakes, but people forget that too or how hard it is sometimes to really face yourself and minimize all hypocrisy. It's hard as hell.
Well, he is a really good actor so there is really no way of telling if he is sincere or not. Double edged sword and all that.
brantham he’s really not good. Lol I forgive him for the douchey creepy shit. I don’t forgive him for blowing whoever he blow to win that Oscar. He’s not good, neither is his brother. Oscars are a joke.
cynicallygreen yeah, lets just give him a hug and another Oscar for this great action, instead of punishing for having done it in the first place. I swear u americans never stop to amaze me with ur bullshit, no wonder Trump is ur leader, its like a fucking comedy but without the humour
that so-called victim even sent him a birthday cards after LOL
Really!? How do you know that?

@@LoggyWD you're comparing him to harvey wienstein
@@anireesievo3589 it seems like you’re being deliberately obtuse. They’re making a broader comparison about the behavior of sexual assault victims
Great actor deserves Oscar.
Jesse Stewart deserves jail
Luna Casta For what?
Movie and Game reviews well, we all know Americans dont like to send rapists and abusers to jail because the most powerful people in USA are like them, and ignorant fucks (probably like you are trying to do), like to defend them. Still, he and colleagues of him like MR W. Allen should go to jail. Send them to Europe, we can teach you some civic stuff that you will never even hear there with another abuser you have as a president
Luna you are by far the stupidest person ever, he didnt rape anyone you moron
K.E. Anderson yeah and I'm sure u are one of those who secretly defends the Catholic Church for abusing kids. Go America! Most stupid country in the world, you are a JOKE
I love his voice sm he’s so soft spoken .
"I like him as an actor so he probably didn't do it." - comments. Thanks, I'm blind now from rolling my eyes too far back into my head.
whosaysimatomato21 Exactly. These are the same folk who'd probably get in a car with Ted Bundy cuz 'he seemed nice'.
whosaysimatomato21 do you even know what he was accused of?
whosaysimatomato21 How about, "The only evidence against him is an accusation, therefore I will withhold judgement until something other than unreliable word-of-mouth is presented."?
what proof do u have some nobody?
yeah bec. accusations count as proof as per cheap trolls like you
I mean, he is saying some things did happen, but "not the way they were described" or not to the extent. Yes this interview is vague, but I just see people jumping to either "he's a great guy!" or "what a horrible monster" (the comments then devolve into something random and unrelated such as pedophilia or something which doesn't have anything to do with him). I am guessing the truth is closer to "he's a good guy, since he said no one has ever made such complaints about him, but probably made some mistakes that are likely being exaggerated and he is being demonized for."
Thank you so much ❤❤
@Casey Affleck don't let this chatter affect or infect you, Casey. People in general seem to be in attack mode anymore and are just waiting on the next band wagon to jump on. This is where being a public figure would be hard. I hate that for you. Leave it behind you and carry on. We love ya, buddy! ❤

Don't say "Sorry" Lee! Breaks my heart!
Love from India, Casey! You have no idea how big a fan I am of your craft!
This guy is basically apologizing for something that there is no proof of because society forced him to. A society of gossip where you’re guilty and persecuted over rumors and accusations alone. In Hollywood you’re career is damaged and you’re guilty just because someone says so. It’s fucking ridiculous.
I hope he can move on with his life and focus on being a better person and filming more good movies like Manchester by the Sea! Also love his depressing voice but hope he is actually not too sad about this :(
Why would u hope he’s not sad about it? He should be. He basically confirmed he did it. Disgusting.. and he should be sad.

Poor guy, he seems like a really sweet human being. Very compassionate. Sucks that he was a victim of accusations without proof.
if he had female privilege he wouldn't have had this issue to deal with.
I love this guy. One of the best actors of our time, and far more talented than his brother
Honestly, why even compare them? Ben is a absolutely terrific actor, amazing talent, good writer and a amazing director. With lots of great acting movies, oscar for both writing and as a director for two different movies. Casey is also a terrific actor, amazing talent with really high ceiling. Decent as a director but shows that he might become really good at it. No need to compare they are both absolutely amazing.

LOL Where is the evidence that he actually did anything????
kwang-won Chung random twitter accounts. Very valid evidence
He admitted it. Did you watch the video?
With the lawyers and the people who decided on the settlement? Casey Affleck and the women also signed a contract that forbide them to reveal info from the case, so you are never going to see it.
@MAGA merica your user pic is of a failed country that committed treason against the US. why should you be allowed to vote?
Thomas Clifford no, it’s worse to blindly accuse. “Innocent until proven guilty” ring a bell? I have more reason to defend someone instead of accuse someone who hasn’t been proven guilty. Especially in these cases where there is no actual evidence, just hearsay.
What's the point of this interview? Confirmation of guilt?
to shame him
Casey Affleck isn't legally allowed to say "I'm innocent" because he financially settled with his accuser before any legal proceedings could begin. I'm guessing his managers and agents convinced him it was a good idea to publicly address the allegation in a contrite manner, in light of the #metoo frenzy. So he's in a position where he can't protest his innocence, but has to be seen to say something, so we end up with this.
Casey Affleck has been and is and will remain the actor of our time. History will evidence this. Not unlike the great artists through the ages.

The problem is when people (mainly men) say "Let's put it behind us and get on with our lives." That doesn't work, it's the easy way out. The "problem" needs to be confronted head on, discussed in-depth and some conclusion made.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yep. The SNL family feud superbowl got this impersonation perfect lol

I think men who grew up in "Panty Raid Culture" have had a hard time seeing a lot of what they may have done in their youth was inappropriate. Objectifying women was literally everywhere, from movies to commercials to TV shows. They not only made it okay, they made it a sport. Then suddenly you're all grown with hindsight, and the tides have changed and you're realizing, "Wait, that was wrong!? OMG! I had no idea, I'm SO sorry! PLEASE forgive me!!"
There is a difference between being a predator, and just being a horny kid on a crusade to score a good time. And make no mistake, most of us were taught that's what we're supposed to do through the arts and popular culture. It's not his fault, but he is still responsible and accountable for his actions.
Translation: I’m a really good actor but my bad rep right now is making me not get a good gig again so here’s an interview that sorta explains my side but I’m not admitting to anything..I’m just gonna talk...please forgive me Hollywood
Listen man, no one is perfect. I don’t know if he’s an awful dude, and I don’t care really. He’s a phenomenal actor and if he’s awarded for it, it’s because he’s deserving.
Stop trying to critique people for things that don’t affect you.
Roberto Carlos Who cares how good an actor he is? If you sexually harass someone, you're out. If you sexually harassed someone in an office, you'd be fired, right? Don't give famous people the benefit of the doubt. Some are shit people
I LOVE HIS SOUND!!!
I understand the willingness to not forgive, but I think it is going to be ultimately damaging for the cause itself and to our society as a whole if we will not accept people who wish to understand and improve. If a system is corrupt then those who adhere to that system is a victim as well.
It seems that is hard to hear for some people. And I hear their pain. But we should learn to fight for one another, and not be obsessivly working towards someones demise.
Beautiful.
Exactly.
You forgive not the ones who were assaulted, let them make the choice. Not your body that was violated.

He's exactly the same as his character in Manchester by the Sea.
Although I believe that he is a terrible person at least at one point in the past, I think he won an oscar fair and square. If he did a crime the police should act on it not the academy.
What happened exactly?

I think Casey Affleck is a great actor.
He would be great as a villain like killer, rapist...

No evidence against him. Hearsay. He's had to convince himself that he did something. With hearsay and lack of evidence - it is agreeable that you will never know. But the guys a freaking Vegan and is an ambassador for animal rights Think about that. He got way too much hate.
Whatever he did, I doubt it warranted his loss of a career. I'm not a fan. Personally I hate nepotism. Yet I still say; it's better to be the object of someone's desire than the opposite.
Nepotism? What on Earth are you talking about?
I do not know anything about this case, but I like him as an actor.
I am not saying that he didn't do anything wrong in a past, but it makes me so unpleased that all those parties attack him right on the time that his name raised in Oscar polls. I believe that it was not to get maximized revenge to tear him down in his glory but just for publicity and more income from all those interviews. He must be only a few actors among F. Murray Abraham that disappeared from Hollywood after winning the highest award.
Let me put it this way. If you knew someone you know had done terrible things, would you be happy to see them again in your workplace, winning awards?
