Free school breakfast and lunch has been provided in some States in the USA. Theory is children learn better when they aren't hungry. Test scores in those locations increased. .
Oh it surely works. It's just that main concern here is people are extremely corrupt. The budget is 20k rupiah for each children, eventually will only end up 5k rupiah. Everyone wants their part of the money.
The free meal budget is ridiculously low, only $1, I know Indonesia income is not that high, but with $1 budget expecting to fulfill Indonesia kid nutrition? Meanwhile, the government agreed to raise the officials' salary multiple times, raise taxes and more cuts, and hurt the economy. Also don't forget that Indonesia will have more giveaway ministers in the government, the incompetent one that keeps making nonsense policy.
So what? American lunch program costs $1.25 per student per meal. The difference is buying power, qverage Indonesian can get relatively fullfilling meal with vegetable and protein for $1 in many places.
I hope this works out. It makes sense, higher children health and education will do wonders. Such a program was introduced in the southern state of Tamil Nadu in the 1980's, now accross India everyone believes in these programs.
Indonesia must strengthen their food supply if this program is to continue running. If their food supply is hampered or problematic, this program will end.
we all hope the project work dude, most of us is just sceptical about it. you don't live in a country full of corruption and not be sceptical when catering is like the most common practice of corruption in here
I was debating about this program with my lecturer in university before, 'cause we choose different president candidate, I thought this program is significant for stunting just as what my choosen candidate stated on his campaign, stunting in Indonesia is high and not all children can afford to buy cow milk especially in rural area with low income family, they can't afford it, and if you see in rural area many people in Indonesia is having malnutrion, since they can't afford to eat meat, meat is special for them, even I once see the interview some people just eat meat once in their life, I once asked my mother, why many Indonesian people can't afford meat and cow's milk when people in foreign country can easily afford to eat and drink it?, and my mother answered that meat and cow's milk is so expensive in Indonesia and there's not much cattle farm in Indonesia. So I support this program so much. And I know the news where some company willing to invest in this program with sending hundred thousand of cows, and I'm grateful about that. Other countries has done this program previously and I think it's not too late for Indonesia considering many children in Indonesia suffering from stunting. And if the opposition think that it could lead to corruption, but I think if the president would checking his subordinate strictly and if they do what people concerned about he would punish them according to law, there's nothing to worry, especially thia program is for the young generation of Indonesia, Indonesia has planned that 2045 they will have golden era, so this program is part of the plan, hope people will support this program regardless of politics and economic issues 😊
And yet they keep mocking vietnamese and chinese for being non muslim and communist, how ironic when those country got better education than indonesian lol "ummah" nation
Lower taxes, increase income, and provide subsidies for basic needs, so that Indonesians can afford to buy meat and cow milk for their families. If you're talking about stunting, the government shouldn't just focus on giving free lunch to kids but should start by paying attention to the nutrition of pregnant women.
@@greencat9150 I really wish that would actually happen, so it’s not just the kids in a family who get to enjoy meat but the whole family. I also hope the new president will cancel the 12% VAT increase because this will automatically lead to higher prices on basic goods, which will only make things harder for the middle and lower class.
As a Indonesian, we don't have much option, 2024 presidential election are probably not clean, but we still trying to be optimistic and not get consumed by negativity even in today's world, we respect the government's choices, even with worries in our head, we are not free from negative thoughts, we just don't let them ruin ourselves.
Privileged people won't understand just how important foods are, for a low income family that works as a laborer, it'll be a helping hand for their children to get nutricious food. The results won't come in soon, since this is a long-term programme. Most people debate about the food cost for 1 child is too low, but you need to understand that it use local ingridients, which will be a lot more cheaper than the market if its from the farmer itself.

Not sure if helping the next gen is even close to their priority.. Heck the working people are receiving more tax for these "supposed free lunch" program, and the government only taking the credit for these "humanitarian acts" (remember.. the majority people in indonesia is still lower class and middle class) while the higher class doesn't get impacted much. And that, coupled with the already strain of building the new capital IKN that so far hasn't got foreign investments and the previous jokowi toll roads and bullet train expansions that indonesia owed..
You do know it's just some kind of propaganda from whoever said that idea, to make himself look more favourable in the general public's eyes, dont you?
Focusing on the younger generation will sure to maximizing the country's growth for the future. However, not only food, I think education is also very important.
So every child gets a meal? If the country can afford it then that's great. If not a means tested system, i.e. free meals only for the poorest children, might be a better solution(?)
Every student yes, which regrettably also include the privileged that don't even pay taxes. Other simpler solution that I can come up with is that the program should run on expenses accrued from initiatives of the schools plus from the government on 30/70 ratio as a joint program. This way each school would be the first and the last entity responsible for identifying and accounting children that came from poor family and have them be excluded from the burden of the monthly financing for the "free" lunch.
@@KyouzukaTakahashiI don’t every student should get it. I think that it should be only given to the poor. I’m pretty sure that kids from wealthier families would much rather have something like KFC for lunch because they can pay for it (KFC in Indonesia is not that cheap, costs at least 3 usd, depends on what you buy. If you use delivery services, then you might end up spending 5-6 usd). I’m also Indonesian btw and I don’t really care about this program because I think that it should only be given to students in poverty who really needed free food.
In addition, I think the government could also just give the money to the parents instead, because that will eliminate the expenses from the packaging and the salary to chefs that cooked the food. $1 can also feed the entire family for the day, and that is if the family only have 1 kid. If the family have 3 kids, then they will receive $3 which can be used to feed the entire family for 2-3 days.
@@edk1124 Nope, it would no longer be within the framework of the program; by equally providing every 'student' with the nutritions needed for their growth, regardless of the status of their parents. Just because their parents have money doesn't mean they'll put the same attention and care about their children nutrition intake. Giving money to the parents would just lead to them using it for their own need, these are liabilities. Unless you can somehow guarantee either of this will not happen, which is an absolutely impossible task. If my goal is to ensure every 'student' grows adequately and effectively during their early years at maximum accuracy and efficiency, i would avoid any sorts of liability in my plan, period

I feel like there are better ways to make education more affordable here. First they should have make it so that its illegal for schools to sell books that are part of the curriculum. When i was in elementary all the way in high school every year we were forced to buy new books or else we will be left behind. I heard from my friend that some schools lend their books from their library rathee than sell it
I have been thinking a lot about this and the solution is very simple, the government just need to employ a big team of well educated academics figures of their respective field. Have them write and patent a few new learning/studying book that is condensed(less useless topics and pages). Also make new curriculums revolving around the books and streamlined it across the country. Reproduce and distribute the book to every public/official school. Books is owned by the "school"(the government), student get to borrow it during class and return it back after class. Students only need to bring something to take notes with and writing purposes. And subjects of learning need to be condensed too from 1st to 12th grade. 4 subjects is enough; that would be Science, Math, Language, and Social. Science teaches analysis and observation through curiosity, Math teaches problem solving through reasoning, Language teaches communication and articulation through expression, Social teaches morals and behavior through understanding. The level of education is suited according to each grade. Extracurricular activity or clubs needs to be revitalized and encouraged, giving space and opportunities to further develop students right brain and de-stress. I have a lot of ideas but I'm not born to realize any of it. I would do exactly this if i built my own school.
It’s not about making education more affordable. It’s about preventing children from being stunted and improve attendance rates. Don’t get me wrong i’m also skeptical of the program simply because of our horrendous track record with corruption, and i’m generally against government programs (partially including this program). That being said, your point is not the main criticism, it’s what i said above.
Many people are skeptical about this project because majority (inc. the Government) only cares about the result- free lunch. But, we should also consider the progress; budget, logistics, etc. Not only that, this party has shown that they don't have a concrete plan numerous times- the targets of this projects changes constantly to fit the public's opinions (I don't think we can forget how this party's representative keeps changing the narrative between pregnant people AND the kids, or just the kids. Make up your mind!) This clearly shows poor planning and little research. Unless they can convince the citizens how this will play out, criticisms will only come as the one-year trial works out in 2025.
This program would only hurt indonesian growth, because its not like Indonesia have 28 billion usd lying around to be used for this vague program. I would rather have those budget to be used for teachers paycheck or even maybe ultra cheap education. Education is one the many things Indonesia need to grow to be a better nation, not free lunch imo.
28 Billion USD is just a fraction of Indonesia’s GDP by the way. Have you ever study on an empty stomach? Think about the poor kids whose parents cant even provide food at their home everyday. Did u watch the video? More kids are actually going to school for the free meal. This is a great way to invest for a better generation that can compete internationally, they can also be the better foundation of our economy in the near future.
Instead of providing their people with skills and opportunities, they give them food and cash. What if one day the government run out of food and cash??? This is just vote buying. It won’t change anything for the long term but uneducated unskilled unemployed and poor people.

It doesn't address the problem - why are parents unable to take care of their children and ensure they are even fed properly? Why is it so many years after independence, Indonesia lags behind China? Instead of growing the competence of the workforce, or enacting programs and plans that help to develop the economies of the tier 2 and 3 cities, free food programs are just a bandaid to the real issues.
The entire comment section is clearly oblivious about the access to food in education, I wont be surprised if they are one of the people. Indonesian public education is affordable, if not free, all the way to college through scholarship.
Come again? You might not know how bad Indonesian education for past 10 years. Just imagine when you're as high schools students seeing your friends cannot do simple math and read a text. That's not a joke. Many People under 18 years old in here still cannot read a text and do a maths. This is a reality. How can you afford a food for 80+ million peoples? How do you get those money from? Also education is far more important in this life because you can basically afford anything if you're educated persons. Food is much more easy to get rather than education, also the Vice President it self is the son from previous President Jokowibodoh which his election are against constitutions. IMHO the free lunch programs must also include multivitamins & deployments of dieticians to every schools or have they come monthly to the nearest government clinics.
I gonna expect it to be last for a year or two, later the president announce that no more free meals due to budget cut and probably something did not going right in the first year, like...corruption by the distributor and the meal specification does not meet standard free meal requirement. I really had enough with government program like this, instead of fixing the problem they decided to bury it and forget about it today
I agree more with a program like this compared to the previous regime's extravagant infrastructure program which was only felt by the upper middle class. Simple but felt directly. Rather than direct cash assistance such as BLT which in the end was only used to buy cigarettes by the father rather than food for his child. If we talk about this program being prone to corruption, yes it is true. Any government program in Indonesia is prone to corruption, so don't blame the program, but blame law enforcement. even the extraordinary infrastructure program in Indonesia during the previous regime was also widely corrupted.

Indonesia must save its people.
As an Indonesian, this program is totally unnecessary. I'm also really confused about how the government plans to implement it. We have so many problems, especially in the education sector. 460 trillion rupiah per day will be spent on this program instead of improving the education level of the younger generation, which still has a gap between islands.
This program will have detrimental effect on indonesia, reflected from the government and upper middle class side getting wealthier, on the other hand lower middle class and below is getting the opposite reality, you can see from the reduction of middle class in this country

Instead of upholding the quality and equality of education, he instead created a free food program. instead of learning from the failure of the forced opening of food barns that had occurred before, he instead cleared millions of hectares of forest, evicting the indigenous people who originally inhabited the Merauke forest for the sake of a "new food barn" led by a mafia and oligarchy from Kalimantan. Indonesia is doomed
It's work if our economy is going well, our education too, and our government doing a great job taking care of corruption. We are not 100% sure because all of that
As an Indonesian, it's more like an irony how their parents force them to go to school just for food, this is caused by overpopulation in Indonesia so that the central government has difficulty handling them, moreover the population is dominated by children who are still in elementary school or junior high school
Many Indonesian foods were not optimized for nutrition and not practical. The habits of the people who like to eat and drink with high sugar contents and fried food are also detrimental. So, without research and strong management, serving highly nutritional foods become expensive and impractical for local people. Even if abundant of foods are consumed but with low nutritional value, it will be a total waste of money and resources.

Privileged people won't understand just how important foods are, for a low income family that works as a laborer, it'll be a helping hand for their children to get nutricious food. If the program implemented correctly this will be a huge success
You know every location has different set price of ingredients, are we all gona eat the same or what
and of course there will be a lot of misuse of the budget for providing free meals. Just wait and see
So every child gets a meal? If the country can afford it then that's great. If not a means tested system, i.e. free meals only for the poorest children, might be a better solution(?)
Every student yes, which regrettably also include the privileged that don't even pay taxes.
Other simpler solution that I can come up with is that the program should run on expenses accrued from initiatives of the schools plus from the government on 30/70 ratio as a joint program. This way each school would be the first and the last entity responsible for identifying and accounting children that came from poor family and have them be excluded from the burden of the monthly financing for the "free" lunch.
The country is barely surviving for now. Indonesia is in a deflation as of recent time
@@KyouzukaTakahashiI don’t every student should get it.

Make up your mind!)
This clearly shows poor planning and little research.

People who hate this program are those who can already afford three meals a day.

Is this gonna be possible? It may sound off topic but I chanced on this cool translator that does everything and more of what a translator should have, name is Immersive Translate and one thing that can really help is it’s new feature, which lets you create a custom AI expert for translating anything. Thank me later, it's gold.
