I put my GoPro on our German Shepherd and we left to go to dinner. I cut out her running back and forth about 3 or 4 more times from the door to the windows while we were leaving and she was whining, but she always went back to the closet and her dog bed.

Never hurt it, it was always fed, didn't have competition, etc. Well one day it decided to attack my kid brother (who was only 9) for absolutely no reason. We were outside and my brother was playing far from the dog, and I was watching him play from a distance. Without cause, the dog ran to him, started biting at his face and tried to kill him. I picked up my brother and ran him inside the house, then went back outside to put down the ravaging dog, with a baseball bat.

Well, for example if you look at videos at what cats do when their owners aren't around you'll usually see that they find ways to entertain themselves instead of anxiously waiting for your return like dogs do. It's in the nature of dogs to be pack-oriented animals as opposed to cats, so it's more expected to see a dog act like this.

Well, we have raised him from an age where he had to be bottle fed so even though he goes outside during the day he will frequently come back in and check on us. (I think we spoiled him completely). In general :) cats tend to care a lot about you if you treat them right- we've seen that with many of ours so far. I have also seen dogs who are okay with their owner leaving for a while if they have another dog as companion, but okay you are right most are waaay more dependent on their owners than cats. Some to the point where you cant go to the bathroom without them because they are traumatized from being discarded like trash :( .
Personally, I would not keep any type of pet alone if they are social animals, at least get a pair of them- although I'm aware that having two dogs is very much work and painfully expensive, its worth the effort.
I help out at a pet shelter and what people do to their pets makes me sad, sorry for the rambling

German Shepherds are very smart dogs, and can become a problem if they don't get enough stimulation and exercise. There was plenty of stuff in that apartment for him to tear up if he was bored. The fact that this dog was so calm after his owners left is actually a sign that they're doing a good job.
Truth. She's a good dog and didn't chew up any shoes or anything. If she had real bad separation anxiety , you would see the results. She just waited calmly, and patrolled the house. And when they came back she was happy, but not spazzing out frantic. She seems very well adjusted. Of course she will always be the most happy with her pack.
They probably took it for a long walk or jog or to the dog park earlier before leaving for dinner. It actually takes good amount of skill and micro adjustment to your schedule to accept a dog intelligent like German Shepherd into the family. But once you get the stride going and they become well-behaved dogs like this one, they are one of the better breeds.

This is why I didn't get another dog when mine passed from old age, but decided to stick to just cats - at least until I'm retired and/or so old I stay home most of the time. Cats can make themselves happy, most dogs can't.

Although a mild case, she is getting separation anxiety when you guys leave, not all dogs are destructive with separation anxiety. That shake off at 3:32 is a good indication of how stressed she was. Its almost like the equivalent in people terms) a sigh of relief when yu guys walk in.

Inspired by this video, I decided to do the same thing with my golden retriever. The fucker seemed to pretend to be super sad when I left, then immediately ran over to her toys and squeaked the shit out of them. Then she happily went to sleep on the forbidden couch, and then barked at her own fart. When I came home she was laying in the sunlight next to the door. Didn't even blink when I came in, but started wagging her tail as if to pretend she cared that I had returned. Reminds me of myself, in a way. Mostly the fart barking.
