  • The #DraconisCombine faces internal problems in the late #DarkAge, just on the cusp of the #Ilclan era. The book, In The Shadow of the Dragon, puts all of this on display through a unique Crime-Drama.
    Here is my review of House #Kurita 's latest novel in the #Battletech Universe.
    The book is written by Craig A. Reed. A link to said book, which releases today, will be in the top pinned comment.
    The soundtrack in this video, was made by ‪@audaciouscues7219‬, and was used with permission.

      Seems to be interresting. But if i understood you corectly we do not have much about Yori Kurita herself and her thoughts in this Novel.
      I personaly wait for the Novel about the Beginnings of the Wolf Dragoons (and their Travel to the Inner Sphere). Sadly i do not know the Title 😥

    A crime novel? Oooh, love when big settings stretch beyond the basic expectations and use their scale to tell different kinds of stories, or even just stories about the small actors in a larger setting. Sure, sometimes they're a bit weird, like a thespian turned vengeful rebel with rat induced PTSD, but that was a very different story about someone new and entirely distinct.

      @kylerogers8948 Месяц назад +2

      Exactly. It’s the kind of thing Star Wars mostly forgot: you have a big wide universe, you don’t HAVE to tell Jedi stories. It’s why shows like Andor pop while Acolyte falter. Battletech? You don’t need Battlemechs to make a Battletech story.

    Interesting review. Can't wait to buy a paper copy.
    I do think BattleTech deserve such an novelty approach in their storytelling.
    After all, there is so much information on how the states works internally (both their strengths and weaknesses), so I believe it will be great to see it through the novels as well.

      Believe it or not, this wouldn't be the first Battletech crime novel. The MW:DA novel Blood Avatar was a detective novel. I thought it was decent, but at the time it seemed like the community hated it and I wonder if a lot of people just couldn't get past the concept of a BT novel with no mechs.

    • @BK2207
      @BK2207 Месяц назад

      Good to know. It is possible, as the minimum requirement for any BT novel is to have at least some Mech action in it. Maybe the audience wasn't ready for such big transition beyond the short stories and novellas.
      But again - we will see if Shadow of the Dragon gets good reviews as well.

      It wasn't a bad book. People where, understandablely so, frustrated with the setting. The plot was moving at a snail's pace. And that book just seemed like filler. I kinda liked it out of context.

    • @krashkow
      @krashkow Месяц назад +1

      @@Thud-pq8rl The thing with Blood Avatar was that it was setting up a plot thread that never got followed up on (The Blood). If MW:DA had lived on, the novel would probably have made more sense in the context of where the dev team were going at that time. One of my hopes is that CGL picks this thread up again at some point.

    • @Thud-pq8rl
      @Thud-pq8rl Месяц назад +1

      @@krashkow I agree, but you kinda proved my point. And don't forget that CBT was slowly dripping out Jihad information along with the DA stuff from Wizkids. Both where heavily implied in that book. Both threads went no where. Such wasted potential.

    I hope I don't spoil too much when I say it is less a Pater Brown and much more a CSI Miami Crime novel.
    I liked it and other then Blood Avatar this is very deeply rooted in the Setting. There is no way this could work outside the Battletech Setting

    I really liked the book, it was a great look at how dysfunctional Combine government is with all its competing agencies. My only complaint was the epilogue felt too repetitious to Yori and Sarah's first scene together. I would've preferred if the epilogue had had Yori actually go and visit the person she said she would, and have a heart to heart with one more person who hates her guts.

    What is the copyright/legal situation for reading BattleTech books on a stream/in a video? Or is that just a big waste of time

    • @BigRed40TECH
      @BigRed40TECH  Месяц назад +2

      I mean, I'm not going to make an unauthorized audio-book, if that's what you are asking. I sometimes read individual scenes on stream, or quote them in video, that's about it.

      @BigRed40TECH no thank you for answering we got into a conversation about my favorite Mech being the Warhawk and then you mentioned another Mech that had four ppc's in it that was a better and cooler running Mech but then I found out the make you mentioned had to drop some heat sinks to put in an advanced targeting computer where is the Warhawk already had it the other mech was called the Hellstar and it didn't have the lrm

    • @timothy4131
      @timothy4131 Месяц назад

      @BigRed40TECH to tell the truth I didn't really like blood Avatar because the author was a new author and I thought they were using the BattleTech platform to write a murder mystery novel it only mentioned the word battlemech once in the whole book and I was a little disappointed but this novel's good so far I'm about 230 pages in the novel

    • @timothy4131
      @timothy4131 Месяц назад

      @BigRed40TECH but I also forgot that there were old BattleTech novels where it was more like a Space Opera where are they hardly mentioned battlemechs

    • @timothy4131
      @timothy4131 Месяц назад

      @BigRed40TECH what originally drew me to the Warhawk was a novel called DRT and the lead character had a Warhawk and was fighting a pristine Clan battle Mech and dropped it in one volley with help of the advanced targeting system I thought that was cool 4 PPC to the cockpit and it was over

    Battletech needs a version of the 40k fiction arm Black Library. Maybe even do an entire Horus Heresy type fall of the star league novel and audiobook series.

      I mean, I wouldn't mind a short fall of the star league series, but I don't need it to be 40+ books along with lot of other baggage I don't even want to get into.

      @BK2207 Месяц назад +1

      We have the sourcebooks for that - which is mostly what the Horus Heresy series is - especially for the Star League Era.
      So no, I don't think it would be a good idea. Even if I did enjoy the Twilight of the Clans series - done by multiple writers back when it was still owned by FASA.

      @@MajorTymojo Exactly !
      Honestly, I would be open for a 5 books to 10 books coop series, but nothing that seems to end up being just a business decision to milk out a specific event.
