Within your energy price is several net zero levies to support wind and solar farms. Added on top are prices of very expensive fuel because we always have to buy at the top of the market because we have no storage facilities and no home grown fuel, always having to go cap in hand to other countries for our fuel. And as all energy companies are foreign owned they maximise the profit out of us so they can offer cheaper fuel to their customers in their own (usually European) country. We have the highest energy prices in Europe and they will continue to go up and up for the foreseeable future.

China opens up a new coal fired power station every week, is by far the largest manufacturer of solar panels and electric cars which require many chemicals and minerals all mined, mostly in Africa, using heavy machinery using diesel, transported by ship, using diesel, manufactured in China using coal fired power stations. They say you have to travel 70,000 miles before there is an net zero value to an electric car due to its very high carbon emissions in manufacture. Do your research before making such silly remarks

few seem to realise that gas, in particular, is not just back up, that is the main source of load and supply balancing without which we would have no power even when there is a lot of wind.
What is drawn from the grid has to be met by supply in. As wind and solar are uncontrollable, nuclear is usually flat out so that cannot vary upwards.
Gas is actually the backbone of the grid and an essential, even with low output..

  • @artistreality

We don't needed fracking, It's a dirty and desperate method that comes with high risks to local environment and contamination risks to water sources above and below ground.
Fracking is a short term solution and as a country we need to look for energy security.
Nuclear technology has evolved and safer than it has been over the last 40yrs.
Nuclear facilities have evolved and have been down scaled in size without compromising out put.
We need to remove ourselves from the idiocy of main grid thought and look to maximise all technology towards hydro and wave technology too and develop these in areas that are best suited to maximise potential.
Energy is a big issue in the UK as is our failing political system and it's greed to tax one and all, How can we expect to attract investors and innovation when we punish them with unreal taxation £££.
Our towns and cities are boarded up due to cheap imports from China and Asia and our industries sold out to the highest bidders and shipped abroad.
If we are going to tax someone, We need to tax imports above 60% and in Great Britain introduce a 20% income tax for all regardless of job and title.

Not far from me is a wind farm of nine turbines, today, like the last two previous days, is sub-zero. Yet, only three of the turbines are actually turning. Looking at Gridwatch, demand is almost at a maximum, just over 45GW, yet wind is only providing 3.25GW. We weren't far from blackouts on Wednesday. Tonight is also a critical issue.

Solar panels are only economical as a supplement in sunny areas between the 35th parallels. Even in favourable areas there is a major mismatch between peak supply and peak demand. They make no economic sense in cloudy upper latitude areas such as the United Kingdom.
