The rubber plug fits into the mopar floor mat to plug the hole back up. So, the hole is not actually left open just move the plug from the floor pan into the floor mat. The mat actually plugs down into the hole in the floor pan.
/\ This
It does, push down till it pops, works great
I was about to make the same comment.
Well, I just learned something about my Gladiator today
I don’t think I got that plug from the dealership 😑
It was never intended to leave the plug out. The intention for these drain holes is when you go through a deep water crossing and get water over the door sills or get caught in a rainstorm with the top off you pull the plug and let the water drain out and once that is completed you replace the plug. I had them in my Jeep CJ7. It's a Jeep thing...
Sounds like a good plan🤔
Pull the carpet, put the plug on the top of the mat, it fits perfectly.
Why would you take the plug out of the bed pan and not put it into the floor mat when you install the floor mat? It’s pretty obvious but even if it wasn’t, the floor mats come with a tag that tells you to cur the carpet, remove the plug, install the floor mat, and re-install the plug into the floor mat drain hole.
Not sure how a critter or bug would gain entry.
Lol, bugs snakes, lookout, I have my mats plug pushed into the hole, it stays closed till you pop it out. With snow here it should be a nice feature for me. If you don't use it the mat sticks up some.
That’s a great solution to keep it plugged👍
I agree. I have the Weather Tech flooring though...they "hold" any water, sand, mud, etc very well. I understand why they are there....for those hard core Jeepers who "need" to wash out their rig....that's not me.
I didn’t want to remove the drain plug either but didn’t want my carpet to get wet with the hole left open on the rubber mat. I ended up ordering a set of original drain plugs from ebay ($10) and putting on the the rubber mat. A little raised but leaves oringinal plug in place so works fine.
My factory mats have a piece on the bottom that sticks down and when I put them in I push down around that hole and they kind of snap through the hole just like the plug does, a tight seal just like the plug. Then I put the plug in the mat. They seal really well. I poured a bottle of water in my passenger side floor mat, let it sit for a while, then looked under the truck. It was completely dry. Then I pulled the plug, the water ran right out the bottom of the truck just like it was designed to do. I dried the remaining water with some paper towels, put the plug back in, then pulled up the floor mat. The carpet was bone dry, no leaks. Your mats don't look like they have the part that sticks through the floor pan like on mine, did they come like that or did you cut them off?
Mine are exactly as they came. I didn’t cut anything off👍
So your mats have the piece on the bottom that sticks down a couple of inches?
Nope. They might have a 1/4”🤔
Are they factory, mopar or aftermarket?
They are OEM👍
Pull the carpet plug out, pull the plug out the floor pan and your floormat locks into that hole so it will drain!
As others have pointed out, your mats technically aren’t installed correctly. They aren’t suppose to sit on top of the carpet like that. You’re supposed to take the carpet flap out, pull the plug out and snap the mat into the hole with firm pressure. The plug then goes into it on top. Fits perfect. If it doesn’t it’s a mat defect! The way you have them now would cause mud and snow to seep into the carpet under the open hole in the mat you have shown on passenger side!
Thanks for the tip 👍
Never even thought of that and I agree not to leave them open. If you have water in your Jeep use them and once the water's out then close them up.
YUp...Gotta keep the critters out!!!😬
Lol the mat fills the hole the plug goes in top of mat... Oops
Absolutely 😬
I see your point. But as others have said already. You can use that plug in the floor to plug the hole in the floor mat. Good video 👍
The Jeep plug is too large...wont fit in the floor mat hole😬
@@robmotiveplus Fits in mine perfectly. Believe it was designed to do so. However, I think, a mouse could push it's way in via that hole just the same. The plug only seals the floormat hole, not the cab hole as it did before removing it. So your point is still valid.
Mine too, perfect fit.
They can’t get inside once you place the mats over and insert rubber plug on top. I can show you how, they’re supposed to work. The mats have a rubber piece that fills the hole. I’m outta Harlingen as well. Pull me over one of these days. Gobi Rubicon with 37 red fuel coverts
Thanks Michael. I figured it out. I think I may have seen you yesterday!!👍
I just learned something
Glad to help👍
I removed the carpet cutout and put the plug in the mat. I figured if I ever spilled a drink on the floor, just remove that plug and it will drain out. Hopefully the plug seals out the elements and everything.
I don't think it would seal tight enough to drain out without getting liquid under the carpet.
@@robmotiveplus I had thought of that, but I'm not going to try it to find out.
The plug goes on top of the mat not under it. They come under it but that is not how they go.
Yup..I’m all good now👍
I remember one time we took the tj 4wheeling and there was a river crossing no doors that day water was poring over the door sills pulled the drain plugs
I think that exactly why it’s there👍
Come on man! We wanna see a real video... we wanna see how those drains work. Where’s the water??? Unsubscribed. 🤣🤣🤣
Well...bring yours over and let’s find out!
I thought they came with some sort of rubbery floor rather then carpet so cleaning the floor is really easy. Or is that a Wrangler thing? Does the Greenbeans machine have carpet?
Must be a special thing? Both have carpet.
Man little babies... all my older Jeep air vents are open to bugs and critters..
Huh?
@@robmotiveplus meaning youre crying about a little port open on the floor when practically every car pre filter for the air ducts could get critters and debris in through the air vents
No one is crying here fella. Just stating the facts. Windows are a great entry point too if ya don’t roll them up👍
Agreed
They aren't meant to just be left off. The seal with the mat. That's not going to be any different than sealed on the floor since the mat sits in the indentation. Just my opinion...
No way is it a tight seal with the mat on top of the carpeted floor.
What are the hole under the Jeep logo on the tailgate for
Not sure what you mean?
You just gave it set up wrong it’s not meant be left open
Huh?
Ugh I took mine off just to look at it well the plug got lost and now I have a crap load off heat coming in , do not take the plug off if you do not need to take it off
That’s a good point! Never thought of that 😬
They are super cheap to get another set. I think around 2-3 dollars
@@Stylee62000 online ?
If you leave one of these plugs open and drive that way youll know. Apparently the Gladiators have some sort of always on Noise cancellation (i assume its off when windows or doors or roof are off?) but the speaker wherever its open will starts generating a static noise.
Never heard that🤔
When you remove the plug it goes right in the open hole on the Mopar floor mats.
your not supposed to leave them out, its only for a short duration to drain floor boards, so you recommending not to use them is assuming people are all dumb asses and forget to put them back in, or drive around with them not in place????
I didn’t recommend anything nor do I assume anything about people’s level of intelligence. Those words are yours, not mine.
@@robmotiveplus ahhhh ur title says i I DONT RECOMEND ,,,,grow up
