To be honest I'm suspecting the subscription service and the premium currency is coming back as soon as people forget they said that won't be coming back. That and I'm sure those annoying monthly things are still gonna happen so I'm thinking on dropping it by October it's just so stressful and repetitive it ain't worth it
i played pocket camp for way longer than i should have because i was so desperate for a new game and mobile gaming is so convenient..... i really hope that the paid version is what i had wanted from it when it released lol
convenience is king!! the time it takes to open up delta and boot wild world, then load my save, and THEN start playing pales in comparison to how quickly an offline pocket camp will probably boot up. i'm stoked about it.
I'm definitely gonna check out paid Pocket Camp (although HOPEFULLY it's not 30 bucks hahahha), but I think my biggest worry is that it will suffer from not getting the live service drip feed of new content. If I remember correctly, Pocket Camp is a little bit threadbare when it comes to mechanics, so I know a lot of Pocket Camp fans were really into the drops of new content (particularly new furniture.) Hopefully the game has enough clothes and furniture stuffed into it now to hold my interest! Otherwise I think the looming idea of "this is never gonna get an update" is going to be on my mind as I play.
this is a good point. i think for people who have been playing pocket camp for a while, they may end up bailing with the lack of content. for people like me who played once in 2017 and haven't since, there are seven years of content updates and additions to work my way through.
Hopefully it has like scheduled events that just happen like they do in main AC games where you can do stuff. Idk what they'd do with the fortune cookies but they'll figure it out, they're fineeee.
Pocket Camp not having other players and friends show up as npcs on your map areas, not having market boxes where you and your friends can buy and sell fruits/fish/bugs to trade materials, not having cooperative elements where you can water eachother's flowers and share event creatures to people gardens to finish tasks faster, and not being able to send each other gift packages (which contain materials and sometimes even a free fortune cookie!) is going to be so sad. I'm incredbily interested in seeing how they're going to manage to adapt this game into an offline, single-player experience. Pocket Camp's online features that allow you to help and cooperate with people on your friends list even when they aren't currently online is such a game-changing feature that I wish and hope they will bring to the main series in some way. The way you can be on opposite sides of the earth, never playing at the same time, but still exchange little gifts everyday or get notifications that they helped you get into the quarry after you requested help 6 hours ago- it's just nice. I don't even actually know these people, but we're pressing buttons in a game every day just to make it a better experience for one another. It also sorta reminds me of Gamecube Animal Crosssing, where it was designed so a parent and their child could both experience the same video game and share a town, even though due to work schedules they couldn't both be home playing together at the same time. Scheduling meet ups in New Leaf or New Horizons and baring through long loading screens and the being at the whim of your internet connections was a cruel fate sometimes. There'a a lot I could say about the Pocket Camp or about the direction of the Animal Crossing series as of late, but I'll wrap it up there. Basically, I enjoy Pocket Camp as its own thing. It sorta falls into the dollhouse gameplay of Happy Home Designer or New Horizons (where you pick your favorite characters to live with and design your perfect little diorama of a campsite), more so than being a life sim like the older games- but that's okay for a spin-off.
i personally didn't like the online features honestly. i felt like i was obligated to water peoples flowers and send gifts every day. my favorite part of the game was befriending all of the villagers and catching all of the bugs/fish. i always viewed animal crossing as a chill collecting game instead of an online interactive experience so switching to offline won't change how i feel about it at all
THIS exactly this! the multiplayer elements are so interwoven into the game and I'm worried that the game play loop will just be gutted and the game will just feel lonely afterwards
I never cared about the social aspects, it doesn't feel like a little community it just feels like I'm talking to bots... Giving other players stuff makes me feel like I'm just gifting stuff to bots to continue playing the game, and I don't even know anything about them unlike the villagers, it's not much of a loss to me
I think the lack of online will make this game suck tbh. everyday getting onto this game its not to talk to the villagers or interact with them. its to do the like auto task completer pick up fruit and fish and mainly, visit other peoples camp sites, and do the built in online stuff ex. shovel quarry, stickers, gifts. that's most of the game, and it will suffer without it. its closer to social media in that way..... so I just can't imagine the game being ok without it . I'm still excited or the offline version since I have put seven years into this game...lol but it won't be the same at all
all of the online features suck. convincing 5 friends to do the quarry is annoying af. maybe they can just let you do the quarry one day for free without having to bug your friends now. seems like a positive more than a negative
I'm fairly sure they're making an offline version because of a new legislation in the EU that will force game studios to create offline versions of games after they're cut off online service. The legislation is still in the works but has a good chance to become official soon. I doubt they're making it out of some pro-consumer sentiment, because they've been super greedy with paid purchases up until the announcement - for e.g., they did a leaf ticket summer sale just a few weeks before announcing the end of the game (and leaf tickets are apparently not going to work in the offline version, that was so vile and disgustingly greedy of them lol). Something tells me they're just doing this out of legal obligation and the offline version is going to be very barebones, since there's way more game mechanics that rely on internet connectivity than just visiting other players. I have my doubts and I won't be surprised if the offline version turns out to be a throwaway mess just to comply with this new legislation.
was about to comment about the EU legislation too, i have a bit more optimism about how the offline version will turn out but i guess we'll see how it turns out 😂

So, if it's successful, it'll be so in several years. And no multi-billion-dollar corporation will comply to something that could become legislation several years down the line. At the current state it's more likely they think they can squeeze a bit of additional profit out of Pocket Camp before it's completely abandoned by them.
i heard about the closure and i actually came back to the game. I played at launch until they added fortune cookies. The fortune cookies were a step too far. Before the leaf tickets were for speeding things up. Fortune cookies cost leaf tickets, and they're the ONLY way to get certain items. ive always hated this game because the idea of having to buy blind boxes to obtain furniture that most people will actually want to decorate with. you can say “oh but its not necessary to the game!” but when youre playing a game thats focus is decorating, having so many items essentially locked behind a payway is basically pay to win. also hate hate hate limited time events. like, sure, make it so you have to pay to get the items, but at least keep them available to purchase at any time,,, i know thats how all mobile games work but its just so particularly un-animal crossing, so i totally agree when you said it didnt feel like ac hopefully with this offline version, youll be able to freely unlock everything as you progress, although im wondering if theyll exclude some of the items
As a fellow "only consistent Animal Crossing player among my friends" person, I played Pocket Camp religiously for a few months before eventually putting it down. I actually just redownloaded it a couple of days before they announced the shutdown (...the third thing to do that to me this year... I'm getting suspicious). I'm really glad that we'll be able to keep our save data. To your first question, I'm hoping for $10, but I could definitely see $15. I'm scared that they'll go to $20 and force my wallet, but higher than $20 is not worth it to me. To your second question, what I'm most concerned about them doing is keeping the game in a static place where 1) there are no seasonal events, even for the big seasons, and 2) we can't get any items that currently cost Leaf Tickets. If that happens, there'd be little point in picking it up when a lot of people will already have most of the items they can get. I never spent a penny on Pocket Camp before, but if I'm buying an offline version, I want to be able to get everything that's in the game.
Same, play it for a few months until you put it down it's actually how I got through the game, I played during the Sanrio event, and played until the second anniversary, never liked how money hungry it was, the only reason why I appreciate it is because it got me into the animal crossing series what's new leaf, the game that it was somewhat derivative of. theyre easy to get but a lot of the things you could buy with leaf tickets were comically expensive. for example, a lot of items you could craft were like 175 leaf tickets which is pretty much impossible to obtain without paying money in a reasonable amount of time
i started playing pocket camp while waiting for stardew 1.6 to release on switch (i am now getting steam deck lol) and i spent way too much money on it and it wasn't even satisfying. as a completionist, these micro transaction games are not good for me. i need to know more about this emulator!
My opinion i don't like new horizons the game isn't for me at all; I love New leaf and i feel like New horizons is the worst in the animal crossing series. (My opinion please remember if you disagree with me it's fine your allowed to have your own opinion).
I would've been more into the Switch version of Animal Crossing if the Switch was acrually portable. The Switch is just a shitty home console that happens to be "portable" but I can't easily fit it in my bag like a DS, and the battery doesn't even last the whole day.

having just gotten pretty into Wild World on my Retroid Pocket Flip, I'm excited about this!!!!
am i crazy or were leaf tickets pretty easy to get? I keep seeing people say you *had* to pay for tickets but I remember leaf tickets being login and quest rewards too(not that I don't believe nintendo being money hungry lol)
they are pretty easy to get, but only if you have the motivation and time to log in daily and do quests
theyre easy to get but a lot of the things you could buy with leaf tickets were comically expensive. for example, a lot of items you could craft were like 175 leaf tickets which is pretty much impossible to obtain without paying money in a reasonable amount of time
What is that lithograph on the wall?
Handsome
i started playing pocket camp while waiting for stardew 1.6 to release on switch (i am now getting steam deck lol) and i spent way too much money on it and it wasn't even satisfying. as a completionist, these micro transaction games are not good for me.
i need to know more about this emulator!
My opinion i don't like new horizons the game isn't for me at all; I love New leaf and i feel like New horizons is the worst in the animal crossing series.
(My opinion please remember if you disagree with me it's fine your allowed to have your own opinion).
Cute!
I would've been more into the Switch version of Animal Crossing if the Switch was acrually portable. The Switch is just a shitty home console that happens to be "portable" but I can't easily fit it in my bag like a DS, and the battery doesn't even last the whole day.
I don't have the normal Switch but I have the Lite and it's great
thats what the switch lite is for lol
the witch is dead!!! ❤️
