      Nice Video clip! Sorry for chiming in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Miyyan Wenacob Bulldozer (google it)? It is an awesome exclusive guide for learning the rumba and other popular ballroom dances minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my friend Sam got cool results with it.

    No, I'm not a stalker, I have just found an intelligent instructor who is willing to share his knowledge in a clear and concise manner. If learning requires me to look at all his videos repeatedly, implement his suggestions and talk about him all the time, so be it!

    I have been dancing for years...and it took me years to realise that going back to the basics moves for hours is the quickest way how to improve the complex moves. My coaches in Melbourne, Steven and Julie were trained by Hurley and Janet Gleave. Steven said Janet was a stunning latin only dancer and moved into standard later.

    I have watched a few of your videos and I absolutely love the clarity in which you communicate. I started using your practice methodology and I’m committed to a minimum of 30 days to help me and my amateur partner get better. We have been only dancing together for six months and are competing in nine dances (we dance American style)

    Hey!
    Please, absolutely I’d love to see more great videos like this. Maybe this was the most helpful you-tube ballroom technique video I ever saw :) It’s not easy to find (especially) standard technique here at RUclips. Of course it would be incredible helpful to add also “advanced” technique like spins and pivots and also more about posture, etc

    Brilliant! First time I actually understood my position as the female dancer. Takes getting used to, but the visual and understanding where body alignment is generated (hip position) helps A LOT! Was always struggling with trying to get my shoulders and arms correct...but hips were NOT!!!!

    Just found this fabulous video and really appreciate the detailed explainaton of the body position and posture. I have rowed for decades and it is a very technical sport so I am drawn to this type of teaching. Its excellent. I am now 55 year old female coming to Ballroom dancing for the first time ever but have also been diagnosed with a right vestibular dysfunction. I am working hard on muscle development to mitigate that and augment my proprioception to assist with my balance issues. However, When I try to step straight forward or straight backwards...I lose balance...and thus I have developed a compensation in regular walking - and the dance steps - to have my feet more apart. Stepping directly forward and backward, single leg lunges, etc - all of these are difficult for me without ending up directing my feet outward at an angle to compensate for the feeling of falling over. Sideways movements are no problem. My question to you is - have you ever known anyone with mild-moderate vestibular dysfunction who can overcome that thru repetition and practice such that they can step forward and not to the side (my problem).       Hi there! Me and my partner started doing these basic exercises for 4 days only and our dance, posture, foot control have improved so much! We couldn’t believe! We dance together for 2 years and we were struggling with keeping up our posture and feet control. I mean, we are adults and we don’t dance for very long time, but all these simple and yet not simple (😀) advices from you indeed work out. Thank you very much and for sure we are going to continue watching your series. It’s a great help for people like us. There are simple things which our teachers do not tell us and I often I wonder why 🧐.

    How can I stay connected to my partner at the hip? We kind of start off that way but drift further apart as we dance. I love to see how the dancers move as one but can't quite grasp how to achieve this.

      This is a great question. Your ultimate goal is to be able to dance as one. To achieve this both bodies must move at the same time through space with perfect control of body weight developed through correct application of technique principles. If two people bump, fall off, hit knees, clash or anything similar the band-aid solution would be to grip tighter and "try" to stay connected more.
      The art is in the ability to move as one. Hard to diagnose without a video but a starting point is adjusting your posture and focusing on the timing of your leg swing [you can inset a piece of paper to hold at your common centre and without forcing it to stay in place you'll see where you're not moving in time very quickly and then your goal is to move at the same time via lowering/rising and swining together.]

      I always though that you and your partner should have a “shared center” where you are connected sort of at each other’s ribs rather than the hip.

    My challenge is, I'm short and my partners are in many cases taller than me. Should I adjust the position of my right arm so that my right hand is always at her shoulder blade?

      If you looked at this from the perspective of a shorter person the objective is to be able to lead your lady effectively. This means you hold the lady, generally, at her shoulder blade along with the connection to a common centre - to be determined that allows the connection of action and movement.
      Ultimately she needs to be able to feel and follow the direction of movement to which you lead through your body action.
      My coach was a lady and was very much smaller than me but she always said “I will NEVER compromise my dancing to you.”

    Awesome ! However, it is generally misunderstood that when lady’s pose at beginning told to become inclined to left! Not physically true when in motion.
