    I had a bulb burst, but when I replaced it I accidentally lowered it one inch. Then I noticed on my camera that there was a black smoldering under the lamp. I called the fire department and we were able to avoid a barn fire. After looking at the footage it was charring for about 2 hours.

      And I’m sure any sort of draft or movement of air at that point would have caused it to flash into a fire.

      @@LaceyFamilyFarmI know when I start chicks in February those abiant heaters are not enough in a drafty barn. So it’s all about minimizing risk. Ideally I’d like to build external brooders like @sowtheland does where if one catches fire it is away from the barn.
