A beautifully constructed and well researched presentation of the Cistercian Trappists. As a European who studies monastic history I found this programme to be accurate and factual. Thank you for sharing this production and thank you to those members of the Trappist community who opened their hearts to us.

"praying for us". I was drawn in my early teens to monasteries. I never considered becoming a monk, but I still enjoy visiting them and spending a few hours in meditation and occasionally attending one of their public services. However, I could never fully believe that more than a few monks were there to escape the "real" world. But if the constant praying is for the rest of humanity to live in harmony and in peace, that would be wonderful. Perhaps that is why the Satanic Zionist influence and control of so much of our societies has not destroyed the entire population by now...as much as they want to do. As a Reiki Master I often will join with others or by myself and send positive universal healing energy out to planet Earth. I particularly will do that when I am at a monastery. I will visit the Benedictine Weston VT priory every New Years Day.

This is so interesting! I'd never heard if Trappist monks before, but it looks a wonderful life with all the prayers, working the land and being close to nature! It would be easy to spend years just in their library.
I've so much respect for their vocation. It's reassuring that people can still be in such close proximity to God in today's chaos.
    Blessings to all. 🙏

There are no monasteries near me, but i (and many others) find that quiet place in keeping and caring for a garden, in the truest sense of a garden. Full of life of all kinds, peaceful, thriving, full of beauty and rest for the mind. Yes, my garden and i together have learned the secret of how to stop time, as Thomas Merton says of spiritual practice.

Altruism is the core value of Christianity but nowadays, many so-called Christians only think about going to Heaven after death and that's it. If all Christians turned their focus on God like Trappists, their spiritual life would be very different and so would the world be.

thankyou for opening up monastic life in the beautiful trappist way. many are trapped in the thingdom of the world and could learn to stop to time and enter the heart of God by taking on some of the kernel precepts of the trappist way. to live the monastic life outside a monastery is the challenge for the multitudes; the narrow path is not the easy path, but it is the way of perfection; let us pray for each other as the Lord asks of us to do, that we may build each other up in Christ. Beautiful film.

Increasingly, we find that renewal in the church today begins by each person beginning a 'sacred space' of daily meditation on the scriptures with obedience and self-examination. If you really desire God's presence, grab a couple of people in your church and pick, maybe the gospel of John and pray just one chapter a week, a line a day, asking God to speak for 15-30 minutes a day. Meet once a week in prayer and share what God is bringing to you, virtually if necessary.

When was this video made? I get the sense it was filmed in the 90s. I remember that's when the author's books came out (Thomas Moore (Care of the Soul), Kathleen Norris (The Cloister Walk) and Herbert Benson, MD (The Wellness Book).

While a Monk leaves his family behind, and perhaps lives in community without ever leaving it, it seems that a family can still come to visit and share in the life of their family member. Have the Monks seen their families?

    • @BungleZippie

Families can come to stay once or twice a year. Monks can go visit if on leave or if there's an emergency. Letters and phone too, ofc.

Vegetarianism, in some instances, has been recommended when folks may have too much of a sex drive, since meat may be stimulating.....so no extra hormones from meats....
Very industrious community....love the way they take care of their elderly.....
Would also like to know where they get their empty tea bags for their Earth Healer compost tea.....
