Couldn’t agree more, the translation of the tone I dial in to live/recordings, etc, is incredible. I have the A7X’s, as I like the on/off switch on the front. Haha But I’m glad you’re digging them as much as I do.
Daaang nice new cut! Love this deep dive into studio monitors. My JBL ones are cheap and kinda old... Maybe I do need to upgrade. But I have good Berrydynamic dt 770 pro headphones that cost $300 and I typically mix/master with those. I know it's not ideal, but, it's a lot cheaper than treating a room which is needed for decent studio monitor performance. And many famous mixing/mastering pros actually do it on headphones, too.
Back when speakers did not come with a built in amp, my practice was to spend the whole budget on speakers.... and go to "Value Village", "Salvation Army" or whatever used stuff store and spend $20 or $30 on whatever 100wattish amp I could find. Now, class D (D does not mean digital) amps are so cheap, I use those instead. Amplifying audio is generally pretty easy, well understood and even cheap amps can get this close enough any problems will be hidden by the buzz in your guitar chain (even is that buzz is really low). SPeakers are a whole different thing. Just throwing any old 12inch speaker at the resulting sound from a guitar makes a huge difference over very good 8 or 10 inch varieties. I have yet to meet a speaker emulator that has that sound.... well they seem to work if the monitors have 12 inch or 15inch bottom ends. I suppose that is really not a a big deal. One makes their own sound anyway..... I'll stop being a snob now. ;) PS.... Whats with all the comments about your hair?
Dood! CSNY comes to mind! "Almost...cut my hair. Was getting...kind of long.." WHY? Hope you are enjoying it one way or another and Best Regards and Best Wishes!
I think especially if you're doing some mixing, good speakers can make a world of difference, but I'd argue there's nothing limiting about listening back on cheap earphones, especially with how good the chinese IEM market has become, at least for tone crafting. I know that for mixing, it's really hard to gauge things about stereo imaging and phase with no studio monitors, but for making guitar tones that translate, and that you can hear in detail, honestly I think something like the chu II is better than most professional pairs of speakers, specially if you get used to listening to music on them, and therefore know how a good guitar sound should sound like on them.
Another channel called Erins Audio Corner measured those PreSonus monitors...tldr they have an extremely scooped sound profile From his review: As is, with no tonal adjustments made via the knobs on the back of the speaker, you have an extreme “smiley face” or “v-curve” response with a peaky midbass around 100Hz and a very bright sounding treble. The midrange is very recessed and the enclosure is the source of strong resonances. Certainly not something I would consider useful in mixing or monitoring as the ideal response for those situations should obviously be an uncolored, neutral (flat) speaker response on-axis.
I know people are worried about the hair à la Samson, but know this: Had Samson’s hair never been cut, we wouldn’t have an amazing song about him beautifully sung by Regina Spektor.
Fresh cut! Man I’ve been eying a pair of adams for a while , I have Yamaha hs5s and the guitar tones translate well enough but I really want something a bit better for mixing, I find the mid range and low end don’t translate well. Even tho the room is also contributing to that for sure
Andre, do you think you could reach out to Adam Audio for a tour or interview where they might explain the difference that you're hearing between the A7s and the PreSonus? It seems profound by your description.
temporarily on some mackie cr3-x's(cheap, but not junk), really wanna get my large monitors back in use... but i need a heftier amp, my 100w per channel amp is wimpy, but CLEAR. i can only hope twin 500's do what i need.
I love my presonus monitors but I’m also not trying to record at the highest fidelity. The front facing power and Bluetooth are also important to me for other applications.
Been rocking Adam F7's since 2012 and still work as well as the day I got them. Highly recommend Adam Audio. They're an investment that pays off in the long run.
I believe this is where reamping comes in. You'd have to ask that metal guy on RUclips who's always screaming (SpectreSoundStudios)but I believe that's what he's always going on about.
Btw: I'm sure my producer (and most producers) would tell you that how you play guitar goes totally outside the recording room, that what you do there with a lot of plugins to make you sound a certain way or whatever is a surface where you can intentionally tamper with dynamic range rather than leaving it to the musician during the recording session because it's easier to mix that way. Most of a cost effective solution to nowadays challenges. But then again I wonder what Friedman did to record Rust in Peace and I try to pay more attention to my playing.
Ow, wow! You cut your hair! I had long hair for probably about 15-17 years, finally cut it all off. Now it is the Number 2 clipper guard all over, and I am good.

It would be cool if you could do a course on how to record electric guitar using a inexpensive DAW like Reaper or FL Studio. Now anyone has the FULL power of a recording studio on their computer but very few people know how to use it. Such a course should avoid plugins as much as possible and just focus on the basics of mixing, EQ, compression, mastering, etc.
⚠The monitoring is the MOST IMPORTANT asset of ANY recording studio and shall always have the priority over any other purchase. ⚠Remember that if the Adam A7v are really great, they won't go lower than 44Hz... IIRC, the low E on a 4 strings bass is 41.2Hz while the Low B on a 5 strings one is 30.87 Hz, if you have a 7 strings bass, you get a 23.12Hz F# and, in drop-E, a 20.6Hz E... It's not an issue to go down to 16.35Hz with the low-C of an organ's pedal and the Köln's cathedral's organ goes down to 8Hz, you may not hear the infrasounds but, believe me, you feel them in your body, especially when your intestine or tummy start to dance and you get nausea... Beware of the brown note😊 So I suppose that you got it by now: YOU NEED A FREAKING SUB with your monitors and bad news, with Adam, you need at least the Sub15 to go down to 20Hz for $3k... Well, you may soon get why Dynaudio subs are that popular : the 18S goes down to 16Hz for $1k8... But since the brand is very popular on the audiophile market, you should take a look at their HiFi range on the 2nd hand market😉 Now, if you go for hi-end monitoring, you may not want to spend big in a subwoofer just after having bought your monitors. I can't tell if this one is still on market but the M-Audio SBX-10, considering its price, is one of the best bangs for the buck and, as long the crossover was kept at its minimum of 50Hz, it already does great job while going as low as 20Hz. Don't lose your time at getting higher than 50Hz, it'll be pointless, now, for sure, a Dynaudio BM14S or an Adam Sub15 is at another level, thus, if I don't think you may fit a 12" in the enclosure, it's not forbidden to build a speaker enclosure according to Thiele/Small parameters for a Ciare 12.00SW aka "Punisher 12"... The SBX-10's amp+crossover are not bad at all... In fact, most of MOSFET amplifiers (maybe not the entry price ones) are of very very great quality I won't go for the A7v because: 1.) I prefer having passive monitors: 1st, vibrations of an enclosure are bad for the soldering of the electronics, that's also why in guitar amps, combos are the most failure prone... Then... Although I'm speaking of building this one for years... I have the blueprints for the 2x90W Ampex tube amp that was used for the mastering of vinyls at the Abbey Road for decades, I also have blueprints for many audiophile amps😊 2.) I currently own a pair of Dynaudio BM-6P and of PMC DB1+S (and a central+sub from Dynaudio). Note that I have nothing against the Adam stuff, I'm just already geared in the same range of quality. Note that I prefer the Dynaudios for Rock and the PMCs for more acoustic stuff but the difference is really a quarter of the diameter of one of your former hairs, Andre💇♂ Now once accustomed, prepare yourself for this : feeling that .mp3 is horrible. CD's 44.1/16 really sucks. If you were doing 4 tracks K7 demos on some Tascam/Yamaha portastudio with CrO2 K7 running at double speed 9.5cm/s with dBx, it actually sounds better than what you used to think! Moreover, you recordings were warmer, more "alive" and punchy than any digital recording you did... And if you can compare to a high quality recording console... Your digital mix end with rather poor summing of signals compared to the analog console.... Ooops, maybe it's time to consider a reel-tape multitracker? (I strongly recommand to have at least a 38cm/s one and not reduce to 19cm/s to spare tape if you want true professional quality)... And maybe some Neve, SSL or, well, I could find an Amek Big-44 for cheaper than dirt, then... Since the ICs are on sockets, they're very easy to replace with the same Burr-Browns ones that are used by both Neve and SSL... ☢Now the very bad news, although it may depend on the quality of your hearing, but if you have real good ears... Your AxeFX will end sounding "chemical", I often compare sound grains with smells or tastes as these are the closest things I feel to my impressions on grain... Well, the Axe FX reminds me of the smell of sulphuric acid during my chemistry lessons in high/middle school... But don't worry, the guy who sold me my 2nd Mesa Triaxis preamp told me he was selling because the AxeFX sounds exactly the same... Well, in an A/B test, that's not what I hear

One question crossed my mind during this video and that is: "Why the hell I'm still not subscribed ?"
Good video, per usual.
Probably because I literally never ask anyone to subscribe 😂. It’s probably not smart on my end but I want the community to always feel like it has organically come together
@andrefludd I like the way you think. It's not like asking will hurt anyone, but I do think your chanel will grown either way.
I see Transcribe! Love it
Nice guitar is that a strandberg?
Looks like Strandberg Boden Essential
While the Adam’s look cool, anyone interested in monitors for guitar ought to check out the Kali Audio stuff too. Really excellent stuff!! And cheaper than Adam as well.
I was choosing between Kalis and Adams
@@andrefludd ultimately you can’t go wrong with all the tools available today. Only the music we make matters. Love your work and you look great with the new cut bro!!
Where did the hair go? Was it a man unit hair piece?
treat your room before anything else. That's the most important upgrade, and no gear can help with a shitty sounding little room. You can DIY it the most of it, and you won't regret it.
Before I even get to the meat of this video, just wanna say, digging the new cut man!
Thanks!
What have you done?!?
bro your hair....
Nice haircut Andre. I had extremely long hair until I was about 27. Work made me cut it, but im still pretty upset they did. Im 43 now and ill never get it back to that length but ..oh well
I’m 32, had the long hair since I was 11 or 12. But I cut it under my own desire so I don’t think I’ll regret it
Long hair gets caught in things. Also a pain to wash.
ANDREEE, NOO!!!! THE HAIRRR 😭😭🥺🥺🥺
I was your hair's biggest fan 😢
if course you’re a beast of a guitarist & teacher, but trust me, as far as the haircut goes, your jiu jitsu will thank you.
“of” not “if”, sorry.
It’s SO much better rolling with short hair. That was the first huge thing. I can easily pop out of gullotines for the first time.
Dude! You look fresh!
It’s like I don’t even know you now 😂.
Nice haircut
Room is the issue. Get it treated. Flat surfaces would bounce and echo everything. Even the most expensive amp won't sound in there. I can already imagine the sound in a room like that. I've been to rooms like this countless times. Even talking in there hurts my ears.
RIP dreads...lookin good tho mate
Thank you
Wait where the dreads?
well yeah, FRFR speakers have completely diff response curve than guitar speakers
It’s crossed my mind to cut my hair too lately.
That threw me....
Where's Andre?
😢 rip hair!
Haircut!
Dredd......no....ought to focus on the video as it is really good but there was a hair rasing distraction. Pls excuse the guitar pun 🙃😉
YOU CUT YOUR DREADS?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! YOU'LL REGRET IT LIKE I DID!!!
Get out of my head, Andre. I keep almost cutting my hair, too.
Do it do it do it
@@andrefludd but my commitment bias. 😂😭
Headless guitar + dreadless guitarist
I've never been so affected by someone else's haircut lol. End of an era.
You got rid of your beautiful locks! 😔
It's been a long time coming. 😂
Who the hell is this guy? Did Andre got hacked? Voice is similar though 🤔
Unsubscribing!! I can't watch with the hair all cut off. Just kidding but it did catch me off guard at first 🤣
Where hair?
You loose a bet ? Why’d you cut the hair ?
You would not sound similar with a cheaper microphone
Your hair :')
Are you losing subs because of the hair? Also, did I miss the video where you addressed the hair? Lol
No I didn’t address it. Maybe I will in the next q&a!
Personally I prefer to stay away from decapitated guitars
What happened to your hair??
shaved off all the tone...
