    I can confirm everything Chuck is teaching will work but it takes time. Its taken me roughly 8 months to work up to a 4 octave range (G1 - G5) using these exercises and some others with no strain. But you have to experiment where the resonance shifts for each exercise and adjust your pharynx and articulators this takes the strain off the cords , having software such as studio 1 with visual feedback is priceless. High notes use almost no air and it seems you are inhaling the notes. Just work the notes you are comfortable with and your range will increase over time.

      @@PowerToSing bubble lips help me a lot as I struggle with breath control and raising my larynx (I think). I have been singing my whole life but always pulled chest voice up to an A and then had a drastic flip to head voice. So you're videos have helped with learning to bridge better. I actually had a question: do you recommend singing with max power for a certain amount of time everyday? I had a voice teacher recommend singing loud and proud for 20 minutes every day to help strengthen my voice.

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  4 года назад +1

      @@tanyaelias7683 Hi Tanya: This is a great question. I may use it for a video topic. The answer is from Seth Riggs' book, Singing for the Stars, He said: "You don't develop your voice by pushing it to it's limit. You develop it by gradually conditioning it to work efficiently with a balanced coordination". pp19-20; also "Don't be concerned about building a strong voice right away. The ability to increase loudness of your tone will come by itself, after the coordination of your vocal muscles has been established. Once the 'crutch' of depending on your outer muscles [which is what loud singing is] to help keep your vocal cords balanced with your breath flow is gone, your vocal cords will develop their own independent strength." pp.39 Imagine what happens to someone who practices for 20 minutes everyday...all out...while pulling chest voice higher and higher with a high larynx. It's possible to hurt your vocal cords. And can be very hard to unlearn old muscle memory and break old bad habits.

    • @tanyaelias7683

      @@PowerToSing Thank you. I was concerned that just singing hard and loud wouldn't help because essentially that's what I've been doing my whole life, until I get to that A/B area and then my voice just didn't know what to do. I'm finding it very difficult to "pull back" on the power and practice singing correctly through my bridge because I'm used to powering through it really loudly. At the moment it feels weak, sad, and very falsetto-y above the C. BUT I'm working on it. I would enjoy a video about this topic, for sure!! Thanks for all you do and responding.

    Hi Chuck - I have been doing your subscription program. I'm a classical singer planning to sing several of Bach's works for SATB at a SummerFest this summer.
    I'm normally a mezzo, but my goal is to sing S1 by July.
    I have loved all your exercise modules and am wondering how many times per week you recommend my doing them.
    Thanks for all the help - I can really see a difference already.

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  2 месяца назад

      Thanks Dawn. It's important that you are doing the exercises correctly, and it's likely that you are since you are experiencing a positive difference, so way to go! I'm excited for you. When I started, I found doing them everyday worked great for me. But I did overdo it a little and my throat felt tired. I asked my teacher and he said, don't do them so hard and loud...and that fixed it. So daily at around medium loud isn't too much. 15-30 minutes a day is adequate for the exercises if done correctly. If you are rehearsing your songs, maybe 15-20 minutes with the exercises and then go through your songs everyday. Also...you may want to consider doing the exercises for pulled chest/high larynx. I do them along with the mix exercises in Fast Track because they are so good. They may be better in helping you increase your upper range if the larynx is up a little. Good luck and have fun!

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  2 года назад +1

      Hi Megan: Right...that is common. To correct that, try and stay more hooty or hollow sounding. It will feel weaker to you, but you shouldn't hold on so tight. Let your jaw relax and drop your jaw as you go higher. The "e" sound will change too. It becomes almost an 'i" as in "it" or almost "uh". That's ok. See if that helps.

      @PowerToSing  4 года назад +3

      Hi Thiago. You can pull chest through those notes, but it's not good singing. As you build your mix, your voice will sound more and more consistent from bottom to top. Your bridge,....those notes you've mentioned, will sound strong and vibrate. But it takes time. At least it did for me. But it's worth the work in my opinion.

    • @PowerToSing

      Yes, it's the larynx coming up and causing you to go into swallowing mode. If this is happening, your dopey gee's need to be more dopey and the bratty news more exaggerated. But, with both of these, don't do them as loud. Reduce loudness by 50%, while keeping the exaggerated sounds. See what happens.

    Good evening sir
    Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the world, but I need help with this questions
    1) Do you necessarily need to hold your jaw when doing the bubble lips because I just do them without holding my jaws ???
    2)while I doing the bubble lips I felt my stomach contracting and relaxing and then later on I started feeling some mild pains because of the contraction and relaxing of my stomach. Do I need to worried about the mild pains ???
    3)Do I need any exercises for my stomach because many times when I want to hit high notes but my stomach contracts so hard and it's makes me feel like that is my stomach limit for sound production ???
    Please I need your assistance ?

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  2 года назад

      1. Lifting your cheeks with your fingers helps the lips to "bubble" slow. 2. There should be no pain in your stomach. 3. When your diaphragm contacts and flattens, your tummy will protrude a little as you inhale. When you exhale as you sing, the diaphragm will return to it's original shape and location. There is no need for extra exercises. You do this in your sleep. If you can speak and breath normally, your muscles are more than adequate to sing. Be sure to watch this: www.powertosing.com/ep-15-how-to-sing-breath-with-diaphragm/

    I am a little confused with the terminology used like 1 1/2 scale, 4 half steps etc. According to my understanding 4 half steps from B2 goes up to only D#3 which is hardly a great range. Can you just let me know in simple notes for men...i.e for the bubble lips exercise I start at B2 and go up to which note?

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  2 года назад

      The 1 and 1/2 scale means it travels or covers 1 1/2 octaves.The example B2 is the bottom note of the 1 1/2 scale. The top note ends on the F#4, which is the top of the men's first bridge. You are correct the last bottom note is D#3. That scale's high note ends on the Bb4. Which is into the men's second bridge and is well into your head voice. And is an awesome range.

    The only problem is if you need this exercise to build range, you already need 2 octaves of range to even complete the exercise! I can't get near the top end of these runs - even the first one starting on B. I think keeping it within an octave and stepping it up is more realistic for beginners looking to build range.

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  4 года назад +1

      Get comment. It's 1 1/2 octave range...but you don't need to have that range to do the exercise. If you do the exercises strictly as demonstrated, you can do the 1 1/2 scales. I couldn't sing above the E above middle C and I was able to do the bubble lips. Once you do these, it opens the door to the others. @andoletube 4 года назад

      @@PowerToSing I understand that each run is one 8ve + a 5th. But if you ascend in semi-tone steps up a fourth in total, you will need 2 octaves of usable range to work with to do the entire exercise as presented. I found the exercise to be too straining because I don't have that level of range or agility in my voice at this time. It was making me strain to reach the highest note - which I understand to be the opposite of what I'm supposed to be aiming for when training my voice (strain).
      This may be easy for many people to do, but unfortunately, my voice can't seem to do it. I may have vocal damage from years of singing with poor technique though. I can sing high notes if I push hard - but it's not good technique. I can't do it with bubble lips. Perhaps I should do a similar exercise but with an octave span and increase that in semi-tone steps?

      Here's the truth. The only reason I've ever seen that singers have the trouble you are describing, is they are so muscled up, there is so much tension built up in their voice, the larynx is so high, the vocal cords so tight that they can't allow the vibrations into their heads and the vocal cords and function freely without tension. When you are able to eliminate this bad muscle memory, your range will increase significantly. It's not that you don't have the range. It is that there is too much muscle tension in your voice. The good news is, once your nervous system will accept this, your life changes as a singer.
