    Ok i agree with most of the take in this video except at 6:58, in terms of composition in all of the 5 regions and extra areas we have in genshin right now, all of the soundtrack has delivered, from overworld to quest to character themes. musically genshin will dominate wuthering waves in its current state, for a game that has the concept of "wave and sound" WuWa is doing a terrible job.
    its music is acceptable but to call it better than genshin when hoyo mix is a such a beast with music composition is just hilarious, youre just dickriding the game at this point.

    There's no better way to alienate new players than calling legitimate criticism for "astro-turfing".
    To believe that every single player voicing their problems with the optimization has even played Genshin is just delusional at this point.
    I've grinded PGR since release and you couldn't find a bigger Kuro supporter but this "everybody who has a problem I'm not having is a Hoyo chill" is seriously fucking damaging for the community.
    My WuWa runs fine, but at the same time im empathic enough to understand how incredibly frustrated you would be if yours was not and you've waited a year for this game.

      This....ur so right im actually mad bc i cant play the game at all without stuttering, first it takes like 20 mins to open in HDD.
      I know it is an hdd but every single game i have played with higher requirements like elden ring (medium settings) have gone pretty smoothly on HDD.
      In wuwa im having problems at low settings getting constant stutters and fps drops out of nowhere. Excluding the part where it takes 20 mins to open and then i have to wait 2-3 more to load terrain bc i cant move my character and the background is blurred.
      Genshin may be hated by a lot of people and everyone that praises it may be a "hoyo shill" because you cant praise genshin pros. But they actually released a AAA game in terms of overall polishment in all respective categories even though they may not absolutely shine in some.
      Kinda disapointed with some factors in the game as not feeling the combat that much compared to PGR, but its good enought to keep me playing if its fixes some basic issues like optimization.

    The exploration mechanics like the wall running, grapple, and how clean it is to get over extruding edges when climbing and the combat are my favorite things about the game. Just wish the game was more optimized while I was playing cause the frame drops and the occasional ping spikes that just completely stop the game was very frustrating. I really appreciate the devs giving 10 pulls to address and fix that.
    Hopefully they also take a look at the sound balancing for the characters/music. Feels like Yangyang sprinting voice line is louder than normal and Scar's voice being overwritten by the music during the "black lamb" cutscene in the English Dub killed the vibe for me.

    To suggest that the "world"/exploration in WuWa is better than Genshin is frankly baffling to me. I think the world design and art of Wuthering Waves is serviceable and looks pleasant enough, but the game frequently struggles with visual communication. One of the biggest strengths about the world/exploration of Genshin Impact is that the visual language of reading a panorama when looking across its game world immediately draws you to various points of interest, and each point of interest has a visual language that clearly communicates what you will find there. If you want to do a particular type of activity, you simply need to stand on any elevated location and look across the landscape. Every single activity has its own visual signifier and the game goes to extreme lengths to try to ensure that from any given vantage point there is at least one visible instance of basically every activity type. WuWa tries to do this to some extent, but it is not as effective at implementing this.
    I think that WuWa does the short-range signposting okay for the most part, mostly because it just literally copies what Genshin is doing for most of these (Seelies, Oculi, Locked Chests, Breakable rocks, etc). However, the Mid and Long Range visual signposting within WuWa is frankly a mess. If I am standing on a cliff and looking over an area, I can see lots of stuff but the game fails to clearly communicate what to expect in that those areas. There are visual landmarks that stand out as kind of interesting looking places, but they don't really seem to have consistent importance beyond looking interesting on the horizon. Some of them are important locations, but not always. Unless I can actual identify one of the "short range" signposts from across the map, I can't actually be confident about what to expect in any given area within WuWa. With Genshin, if I see Hilichurl buildings, I know that there will be a Hilichurl Camp and combat encounter in that area. Ruins mean that I will either find Treasure Hoarders or Ruin Guards, and the game normally communicates Treasure Hoarders by also placing a Treasure Hoarder camp nearby. Fatui will have a Fatui Camp nearby. All of these things are visually consistent and identifiable from literally across the map because they are significantly larger than the "short range signposts". WuWa has SOME of these visual identifiers, but is not particularly consistent with them. A set of ruined buildings might have Friendly NPCs, Enemy NPCs, Monsters or even nothing at all. In most cases, if I wander around in an area, I know that I will probably find something. The "civilized" locations are normally pretty clear about what they are, but things sort of fall apart outside of that.
    Also, when participating in Genshin World Quests, the focal point of nearly every World Quest is the most prominent and visual distinctive location in the region, which is not only visible from nearly every single location in the region but is often visible from neighboring regions. Granted, 1.0 Genshin wasn't quite as good at this, but since 2.0 added Inazuma it has been a core design focus of the entire world. Every single World Quest in Genshin in built around some sort of visual focal point. WuWa does not do this anywhere near as well as Genshin does.
    In many ways, WuWa fails at the most important part of this entire paradigm of world design (which Genshin largely borrowed from Breath of the Wild as one of the main things that it copied from BotW). The most important part of this type of world design is that the player absolutely must be able to identify long term goals from a long distance, medium term goals from a middle distance and short term goals from a short distance. If I want to go do the World Quest then I should be able to look around, find the thing in the distance that looks the most important, go there and consistently find the World Quest (WuWa does not really do this, at least in what I have experienced so far). If I want to do something a bit less focused but still fit into a particular category, then I should be able to identify where I can find those things by looking across the map. If I want to go fight some enemies, I should be able to look around and find enemies of that type based purely on the visual language of what is nearby (WuWa does not do this well). And then if I am in an area, I should be able to look around to find a puzzle or a challenge or a chest or something in the immediate vicinity that I can do in the next 60 seconds (WuWa does this reasonably well)
    Also, to say that the music in WuWa is better than Genshin is literal insanity.

    • @Morkins324
      @Morkins324 Месяц назад +2

      Update: Having played more, there are World Quest equivalents, but they basically always are given to you via mail where the quest just appears in your quest log and normally starts in the main city. You talk to a person and it literally just teleports you to the region where the quest takes place. Most of them are pretty straightforward quests which culminate in some sort of transformation of the area. This is clearly an attempt to mirror the way World Quests function in Genshin Impact. My feedback here is that these quests are pretty disconnected from exploration within the game world. I was wandering around exploring the game world and stumbled across the Banyan Tree area. It was cool looking, so I started roaming around nearby looking for quests or things to do. There was absolutely nothing nearby. There are the open world filler challenges and chest, but there was not any quest related to big interesting looking tree at the center of the area. The game had a bunch of stuff that clearly was going to be relevant eventually, but exploring the area was not the vehicle by which you experienced it. And that is kind of the crux of the problem for me. The game doesn't use its visual design to feed content to you naturally. It instead uses the Quest log and mail system to hand the content to you, then teleports you there when you decide to interact with the quest. The quests are also relatively simple and can be cleared pretty quickly. Genshin often uses World Quests to provide extensive tours of the regions that they are present within, normally taking you through hidden locations, showing you pretty much everywhere that you might find things to do. WuWa runs you through a couple locations, does a thing very quickly there, then moves on immediately. While a World Quest in Genshin might be a couple hours long, WuWa generally wraps it up in like 15-20 minutes.
      In Genshin, if you see an interesting place and go there the game normally feeds you a quest that is relevant to the area. Exploring is the vehicle by which the game gives you content to play. The game doesn't teleport you to locations that you have never explored. In WuWa, the game just hands you the quests into your quest log, and then teleports you to the relevant location when you play the quest. Exploring organically doesn't feed you content. In most cases, unfocused exploring is the worst way to experience the game because you will come across areas that simply do not let you progress or interact until after you progress the quest. It is the sort of design that comes from not really understanding the purpose and goals of this sort of Open World design. It is the way that you would design a linear game, not an Open World game. Genshin isn't perfect about it and it is definitely possible to wander into an area from a weird direction in a way that might result in you not finding the World Quest. But in most cases, heading towards the Statue of the Seven is going to put you very close to the start of the World Quest, so it is pretty hard to miss.
      TLDR; WuWa has "World Quests" sort of, but it doesn't really understand the function that they serve within Genshin. It's a Dollar General implementation of the same idea.

Combat in WW is def better than Genshin since Genshin combat is not really combat, its more like a mix of hit n run and alchemy where you combine ellements for effects and there is no more depth in it other than that. Dodging in GI is nothing more than very generous invulnerability and auto attacking is just the same spam over and over, no parrying or real combos. But movement in GI is def more fluid/smoother. WW has faster movement but 100% stiffer too. One thing WW def does better aswell is exploration movement: grappling, vaulting, wallrunning, etc. Music and visual athmosphere go to Genshin since even those attributes tell a story. I have not had problems running WW so no comment from me ( I have it on SSD and a Ryzen7 with a 7900XT so yeah....) Devs get the W with WW too i mean 3 days and a free 5* xdddd.

I think GI combat is about as simple or as complex as you care to utilize. Beidou does have a fun parry/counter attack that I wish more characters had. What I really like about Genshin combat is how balanced and varied character synergies are. I don’t know enough about WW combat to understand if there are similar synergies between characters. What makes me really excited to pull for certain characters is how they work with my other favorite characters. For instance, I was so excited to finally get my Faruzan to C6 because of how impactful she can be for my favorite character Heizou. Without strong and unique character synergies, I feel WW combat will get stale fast, people like it now maybe for how unique it is. Getting a free 5 star is nice, but honestly I’m not sure how nice until I understand the value of the characters more, which doesn’t seem obvious to me yet. A free 5 star would be MUCH more valuable to me in Genshin and a lot more exciting, but I honestly have an amazingly strong and fun account without any of the freebies so many seem to be pushing for.

I was surprised when you said it is the size of mondstadt, I think thought it was bigger. Then the enemies, it feels like they are alive, like they have an ecosystem, you can see 2 kinds of enemies fighting each other. The amount of detail in the environment feels so good, most that I do is exploring.

  • @iron-conqueror
    @iron-conqueror Месяц назад +18

    By the sound of it, these might be hot takes, but I think that:
    - The movement in Wuthering Waves currently feels janky.
    - The English voice acting sounds artificial and lacks soul.
    - The camera needs a few tweaks; I find myself fighting it during traversal, which hinders the experience.
    - Voice lines cut out during dialogue.
    - There are optimization issues.
    - Some characters lack fluidity in their combos.
    - The world suffers from a Pokémon: Legends Arceus syndrome, where it's vast but empty.
    All in all, Wuthering Waves is a diamond in the rough, but this is to be expected for a 1.0 release. I don't think it's fair to compare Genshin and Wuthering Waves directly, as we're comparing a game at version 4.6 to one at 1.0, or four-year-old memories to the current reality.

    • @Morkins324
      @Morkins324 Месяц назад +8

      I agree with basically all of your points. Also, the game is far less visually readable compared to Genshin Impact. One of the core things that Genshin does with its world design is that basically every activity has clear visual signifiers. WuWa tries to copy this to some extent, but fails to accomplish it quite as well because the designers didn't understand some of the fundamental decisions that Hoyoverse made when establishing the visual language of the game. Tectone was praising the enemy variety of WuWa but completely missed the downsides that come along with that. Genshin may basically boil down to a few different enemy types, but it is also able to visually communicate its combat encounters a lot more effectively. If I am roaming around in an area, a Hilichurl building or a Fatui Camp are consistent visual elements that I can look at and immediately understand "Oh, there is a hilichurl/Fatui camp over there and it probably has a chest in it". WuWa just kinda has enemies scatter around everywhere. Some of them are connected to chests but others are not. If I am standing on a cliffside and looking across a panorama, it is significantly more difficult to identify what I am going to find in any given area in WuWa compared to doing the same thing in Genshin. The result is that I end up wandering around aimlessly until I stumble upon a point of interest, rather than the Genshin loop of climb up a tall object, survey the landscape and then go towards the thing that I know will be what I expect it to be...
      Additionally, I think it is totally fair to compare Genshin and WuWa directly because WuWa didn't come out in 2020. They got to see everything that Hoyoverse did with Genshin and copy the things that work while adjusting the things that don't. If you want to praise the combat and traversal mechanics of WuWa, then you also have to criticize the clear failings of the game as well. Because WuWa's changes to combat and traversal are an adjustment to the things that don't work as well within Genshin.

      @@Morkins324 you’re comparing the state of a game that had YEARS to improve their game and earn money off it to a game that just came out. Your argument of “it’s not 2020” is completely invalid and it shows you don’t know how game development works.

    • @Morkins324
      @Morkins324 Месяц назад +2

      @@xylos2559 The world didn't freeze when Genshin Impact came out. Kuro Games got to learn from and see all of things that Hoyoverse did and did not do with Genshin Impact to understand what works and what does not work. They copied things that got added to Genshin Impact in 2.0 or 3.0 updates. They learned from the feedback about the combat design in Genshin. You cannot compare WuWa to Genshin 1.0 because Kuro didn't lock itself into a room in 2020 and make the game without looking at what was happening in the outside world.
      Also, the topic of my post has to do with visual readability of the game via visual motifs and structured world design, which frankly is something that would have been true even before Genshin came out. In complete honesty, Genshin's world design and how it approaches short, middle and long range iconography to create a visual readable Open World are things that it literally copied from Breath of the Wild. The fundamental ideas that create the structure of how you read the environment visually when playing Genshin Impact are based almost entirely on very specific visual motifs that Breath of the Wild codified. I'm not out here pretending that Genshin is some massively original project in implementing these ideas. So, when Kuro Games fumbles the visual iconography and fails to execute on the visual readability of their game world, it is absolutely a valid criticism. Not only were they copying Genshin Impact which did these things well, Genshin itself copied Breath of the Wild in this particular facet of design.

      @@Morkins324 You can compare WuWa to Genshin 1.0 they are both their respective developers first attempt at an open world game, sure you can try and learn from other games design choices, but at the end of the day when you are doing two completely different art styles and themes you're gonna have to figure most of it out on your own from trial and error. On top of the fact Wuthering Waves takes place in a futuristic post apocalyptic world while creating completely unique environments that aren't present in real life Genshins world design is based off your standard fantasy style with real world architecture and terrain based off real world examples. Directly comparing world design between the two is irrelevant because they are meant to do different things. Wuthering Waves is meant to be a harsh environment outside of the settlements scattered throughout the world while Genshin is meant to be your standard adventure environment with with a relatively inviting and friendly world outside of a few exceptions. You also need to consider the fact that Genshin has been out for such a long period of time that you are able to identify important parts of the map based of your experience alone. I've only put a little under 20 hours in Wuthering Waves and I can honestly say I can clearly identify points of interest in Wuthering Waves almost 100% of the time

    Heres my take, i think i have played it for about 7 hours up until now, for many reasons i went into the game with the feeling that i wouldn't enjoy it but that didn't happen.
    I would say combat is subjective to the player style, playing Danjin has been ultra fun, definitly a 10/10 so far, but i cant say the same for Jiyan.
    The exploration in general feels like its about the same as Genshin except theres wall running and the most important part shiny echo's, that makes it a 8.5/10 for me.
    *Definitly* not a fan of the music straight up.
    i'm not going to comment on the story cuz i skipped most of it.
    Character design wise, this is the Main reason to why i felt like i wouldn't like the game, its just not it for me, if we include all the playable characters in game and the 1.1 drip marketing theres only 4 that i actually like.
    Now about the optimization, while its true that genshin also had problems on release, i did in fact have much more problems with Wuwa and i think this is not a good sign, cuz my PC has gotten some considerable upgrades since 2020.
    *edit. Forgot to mention but one of the massive positive points about Wuwa is that KuroGame actually listen to players feedback so i'm expecting the game to get better.

    I like W.W., and it's uncanny how the play is so similar to Genshin, but the combat is really nice. The storyline is weak indeed, but I imagine things will get better as we go. I totally want to cremate Scar though 😂

      If the Storyline stays weak, then I will not play it because, after World Building, the Storyline is the second major factor determining whether I stay playing a game. After seeing a six-month, one-year worth of gameplay, both Genshin and HSR were Satisfactory enough for me to pick up and play both games. So, before I can decide to pick up Wuthering Waves, I need to see a few more patches that focus on the storyline.

    Glossing over system requirements and optimisation is probably mistake. Games like genshin, fortnite etc owe a lot of their popularity to the fact that they can run on literal potato with wires sticking out. WW have large system requirements as far as gacha game goes. My pc can run HSR on max no problem. Tried WW and it runs like crap on lowest settings and 45 fps lock (granted my pc is old); so i've decided to uninstall it and maybe play it in future when i change my pc to something more suitable. And i doubt devs will magically fix it. Game will still require much beefier PC than all those other mentioned games. More people can play your game more chances it has to be popular. WW might suffer because of it

    We know you have a 4k $ skyforge PC and not encountering the frame rate/Stuttering issues like the average joe does. But the game runs like garbage on average build PC's.
    I have a ryzen 5 3600 6600Xt running the game on the lowest possible settigns and still have stuttering issues.
    Genshin's launch did had issues but not this badly optimization bugs, to the point average pc's /mobile phones can barely run the game.
    Not to mention you have to wait insane loading times between teleporting and entering/existing domains and just entering the game itself.
    Gameplay wise I do agree it has a potential to be more interesting, and interactive than genshin's , if it doesn't stutter and the fps didn't drop like hell because it tries to load the textures every time, the gameplay is only fun if the game actuallys runs smoothly, which it doesn't.
    They clearly didn't have enough testers in CBT with average build PC's (seeing how mostly CC's had access to beta, and CC's usually have high end pc's). Therefor the poor optimization for mid-low build PC's, and we ( global community) arent the only once that complaining about the performance , the chinese forums of bilibil are flooded with complaints.
    And no amount of free 5* "apologems" are worth it, if you cannot use said 5* to begin with because the game simply isn't working.
    About the story part
    The story is beyond garbage and the writing of story/character introduction is very poor, its the same thing that happened in PGR , though for PGR it took like a whole half year to reach decent level of story writing, so I guess we need to let kuro cook?
    You pointed out that Scar introduction is good and promotes the story? Just because they introduced a decently written character with somewhat not bland personality, doesn't mean the story suddenly became good.
    And if we compare to genshin's , sure mondstant story wasn't great, but at least it did decent enough job introducing the world and the characters, wuw just info dumps the story of the world and expecting you to remember every single detail and all the weird world names.
    And sorry eggman, saying that wuw's music is better than Genshin's is very coping. The music over the open world is very bland and not immersive at all. Only the boss/hologram music are decent at best.

    EDIT 2: The devs admitted that they were wrong and saw more people talking about it. So it will be addressed and fixed. People still saying I am wrong don't know how to gauge impact animations with appropriate levels of SFX and probably have not played games that have that good examples of follow through.
    One thing I can absolutely say that Genshin does better than Wuthering Waves is that the sword SFX actually sound like slashes and not someone mollywhopping your face with their meat. The hit SFX for swords sound so fucking lame that I had to switch off to literally any other weapon type (EDIT: I think some people are reading the comment and thinking I mean the slash SFX themselves; the resonance of the blades, air slashes, sheathing and unsheating...those are fine, it's the impact sounds that feel like dogshit). I can't believe they didn't fix that shit after so many people gave feedback on it. Also the VAs sound like they aren't human (mostly for EN, but I know JP and it's marginally better, but also the script for proper nouns is terribly bad when reading EN text with JP audio)... that isn't to say that they are AI, but the direction for them makes them seem like they are phoning it in. Even with all the fantasy jargon that loreheads like me would like to take a deep dive into, I just can't... the characters sound disinterested in their own story.

    • @PixelleHearts
      @PixelleHearts Месяц назад +21

      @@silhouette9699 A lot of the sword characters sound like they are hitting you with whips and not clangs or scrapes of impacts that you should have *some* feedback with. Genshin has the inverse problem. Fewer strikes mean more kinetic impact but the combat feels dumber. Wuthering Waves has a shitton of hits but none of them feel impactful or sound impactul outside a couple of units. Taoqi doing a helmsplitter/helmbreaker that can combo into a helmbreaker has a good impact SFX for example (as it should because she has shatter effects), others not so much.

    • @PixelleHearts

      Character feel is part of the gameplay. User's need proper feedback response to know combo pacing, especially when this game prioritizes combos, enders, and starters.
      The only sword/blade characters so far that I can even bare to use are Taoqi which is sad because she's like the lowest tier and Calcharo because his combos actually have good follow through with their SFX and the windups for his animation. Jiyan probably feels good cause his attack animations flow well and have good key frames for impact, especially for example, when he slams the spear into the ground and it bends up when he removes it to uppercut...
      IF I COULD ONLY GET HIM.

    i love this game. saying this as a genshin war vet. there definitely needs some improvement in storytelling and some areas, but think about it. If this game is already even COMPARABLE to genshin impact, imagine what will happen to over it time. it'll just get better and better, and we are talking about this game (that has only been released for 24 hours) being comparable to a game that has been going on for almost 4 years time. already. and y'all cant tell me we weren't shitting bricks and over the moon for genshin when it first came out. it's not really good now, but i feel that wuthering waves will definitely step it up, and also we are already getting listened to. genshin could literally never

    W review. Thank you! 🙏
    I agree totally on everything.
    Exploration - 10/10 - Beautiful.
    Music - 9.5/10 - I love that ambience and mystery that the music provides. I know a lot tarded people complaint about the music which absolutely stupid and they are mentally ill. They need help. I know a lot people want _Hikari_ and _Narwhal type_ of music BUT YOU CAN'T EXPECT THAT IN EVERY COMBAT ENCOUNTER. Lower the bar damnit and appreciate the betuty in it's given form!
    Story - 6/10 - It's good. Maybe because it still building up yeah.
    Voice acting - 7/10 - Some VA's are legends some are fine but something feels off. But overall, i have no objections.
    Combat - 100/10 - Pure perfection
