    Going into my local fly shop the first time and seeing all the materials and rods and flies everywhere is what really made me fall in love with it all. Talking to a knowledgeable person who’s willing to part with information is invaluable, and really sparked my joy for the sport. This was a joy to watch

    I had a trip to Rutland last week and part of the enjoyment was wandering around the tackle on show and the fly tying materials section. It felt like I was back in a sweet shop of many years ago. As there are no fly fishing shops in my region and all my purchases are online it showed just how much I'm missing.

    Due to living in an area with little interest in Fly Fishing which led to there being no specialised shop in the area, mail order was my only option. Often recieving tying equipment that was not what appeared in the Companies brochure. The Newark Fly Fishing Fair filled that void until it stopped. Visits to Bakewell, 90 miles away, to fish the Derbyshire Wye, usually included a visit to Peter Arfields Shop. Having John Tyzack as a Guide and now as a friend, introduced me to FishOnProductions, is now the only Mail Order Company I use. Then later years the BFFI has been a God send as unlike mail order you can actually see what your buying. Since Pete's shop closed and as a member of the Peacock Fly Fishing Club Mallon and Green in Bakewell has become a port of call, shall I say on occassions 🤫

    Love going to my local tackle shop in Dingwall, was there this morning to get some advice on a Salmon rod, left with CDC and slotted beads, I'd rather pay a couple of pounds extra for the chance to get the fishing gear in my hands before I buy something, great vid Lindsay!!
    I can see Salmon flies in my future with the Conon on my doorstep!!

    Peter is a gentleman, great shop provided you can find it 😀 😂 needs a sign or sticker on the gate to identify that there is a shop out back. Just heading into great lakes King Salmon and steelhead season over here. Still unusually warm with 30c days and 19c water...needs to cool a wee bit still...

    Very interesting Lindsay.
    I always call in Johns Norris when near Penrith, i cannot understand why Orvis pulled most of their shops.
    As for using the duo on the euro rig try it, its so flexible as a method especially in low summer flows .

    Hi Lindsay, Very interesting video and interview. It’s great to see such a well stocked Tackle Shop, which clearly can provide the “personalised touch” for new and experienced Anglers. Also good to listen to someone like Peter Driver who is such an enthusiastic person and is willing to pass on his knowledge and experience for free… if only there were more of these Tackle Shops around the Country ! Regards, Wayne 😀👍

    Since moving to Munich there is only 1 shop worth visiting and that’s 1 of 2 in around a 150km radius. I used to like the shop at Eyebrook initially with Dave and then later when Stuart setup there. Online shopping is great as the choice is huge which unlike the local shops where the material selection is very limited. I’ve toyed with the idea of setting up a small shop myself but I don’t know the size of the market here. I’m considering starting with fly tying demos at weekends in the not so good shop, my hope is that would give me perhaps an insight into the appetite for fly tying in the area..

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  5 часов назад

      Rob, that sounds like a great idea. It will only cost you a bit of your time, definitely worth a go.

    Euro dinking is just dapping is it not? Dapping the dry dropper while fishing the nymph on the point with the added movement. I’m not a big fan of fishing double dries on some rivers either I don’t like the idea of the loose fly snagging and the fish being left with a fly in it’s mouth.

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  5 часов назад

      Hi Rob, Having done dapping over the years whilst Loch Style fishing it is not quite the same but very similar. It is very effective on the river and I suppose the main reason is you only have to carry one rod. I have always fished with two flies (where permitted) and never had an issue with one of the flies snagging and then been broken off.

      It's been around for a few years mostly used by the competition boys. I have given it a go and it is effective but like everything else with fly fishing there are compromises.
