Was cruising through some of your blues deluxe speaker demos last week just for the hell of it. The stock speaker has served me well for 12+ years but still thought it smart to read/watch up on some replacement options. Had it narrowed down between the Texas Heat and Swamp Thang and just kind of added it to the to do list later down the road. Well, literally the next day I walked into a local shop here in Kentucky on a whim and low and behold, that monstrosity of a freaking magnet on the Swamp Thang caught my eye stacked atop a pile of old speakers and cabs across the store. Apparently Eminence is just a few miles up the road from me and they've been dumping their overstock at the local shops dirt cheap to save on shipping. Ended up walking out a very happy man with a Swamp Thang for $37 usd. But what was initially a cheap coincidental impulse buy turned out to be exactly what I was looking for out of a proper Fender tweed. Unbelievable bass response coupled with fantastic cleans and a late breakup.
First time I tried this with my Hot Rod Deluxe, I removed the chassis and placed it on a chair by the fireplace... When I came to put it all back together the chassis had heated up and expanded to the point where it wouldn't fit in cab. I had to wait about half an hour for it to cool down and contract enough to go back in. I've often seen guys lay their amps face down to remove the chassis, but it's actually much easier to remove the side screws on one side, then tip it onto that side, remove the top screws, and then remove the final side screws on the opposite side. That way you don't have to worry about the chassis dropping into the cab, and you don't have to hold it with one hand when you're putting it back together... It's not much of a problem with a Blues Junior, but the chassis is quite heavy on a Hot Rod/Blues Deluxe/Deville.
changed my Fender Supersonic 22 speaker for a Weber 12f150... easy going procedure. and it sounds AMAZING. All speaker change on 1x12 combos is worth it. It's a no brainer! Cheers from Brazil, Shane! great vids!
I swapped out my speaker with a Celestion G 12 neodymium. It took a lot of weight away. Which is good but it didn't take the tone away. I like what you did, your tone is always sweet. With a back problem the g12 fit the bill. Your videos really help with decisions. Cheers.
Cool video Shane I have tryed different speakers in my Hot Rod Deluxe IV the first one was a Tone tubby red Alnico speaker it was perfect for blues then I replaced it with a Eminence legend M12 it was a 150 watt speaker I thought it would give me a cleaner louder sound but the Hot Rod Deluxe is still 40watts so I don't think it made that much difference so now I installed a Celestion vintage 30 and I don't see much difference between it and the Celestion V type speaker so my suggestion is like you said do your research before you buy a speaker because most speakers are not refundable I found out the hard way.
I’m combing through videos and losing my mind a little. I dug up my first “real” amp (after the crate gx15 that I got for Christmas with my first guitar (Samick strat). It’s a 90s Fender a Ultimate Chorus, despite having a killer chorus and a great 3 coil spring reverb tank, to be honest I’ve always kind of hated it. I bought a 1950s Magnatone off ebay around the turn of the century and never looked back, after that I think I just can’t really dig on the solid state sound myself, while I know it can be great for some. I always had a sneaking suspicion though that the stock, blue-label Fender Musical Instruments Fender Special Design speakers may actually be shite and that could be part of my problem with it, but I’m not sure. Any experience with these speakers? Or advice about wether an upgrade would be worth it, or even what might work WELL with a solid state Fender? Cheers from Boston, USA
Shane, what's your opinion on the Jensen C12N in a Hot Rod/Blues Deluxe? I had one in mine for a bit and liked the bass and midrange but I found it would produce some very harsh treble tones (kind of raspy or buzzy) whenever I put any kind of overdrive through it. I ended up just putting a Celestion Seventy 80 in as a temporary speaker... It's alright, but it can get swallowed up a bit when playing with the band. Thinking maybe a Texas Heat might be the way to go... Something with a nice punchy midrange and plenty of bottom end.
Hi Shane, all of yours are great videos. Can de the Preamp out go to an audio interface and the Power amp In be used as an input signal from an audio interface? This to connect the amp to/from a DAW software?
Hey Shane thanks for the video, been thinking about building a fender deluxe from a kit, from mojotone or tubedepot, thought I'd build my own chassis. How do I spec a replacement speakers as far as wattage and ohms? I was thinking a celestion greenback or creamback rather than the home brand kinf things they usually put in the kits.Cheers!
The speaker has to be 8 ohms and rated at the minimum specs of the power rating of the amp. Watts don't matter as long as you meet the minimum. The Swamp Thang speaker I use is 150 watts at 8ohms
Th blues deluxe definitely needs a speaker upgrade first thing if you buy one cause its floppy sounding and I hate it with stock speaker. With an upgrade it's a bad ass amp
I use stock speakers in my amps. I buy amps i like the sound of, instead of buying an ok amp and replacing the speaker. Im not into doing mods to amps or guitars, i buy things i like the sound of.
Les Loranzan I understand your thought process and this is also a method. But... you have no idea what you could be missing from those ok amps from just a simple speaker change. Speakers are relatively cheap compared to most amps and probably make the biggest difference in sound for the money. It's easy to do too. Good luck with your stock gear.
intheblues Unreal, I mean DO you re-bias a valve head amp every time you plug it into a different speaker box??? I mean WHAT'S the difference??? LOL! Cheers Shane!

Shane, between these two amps. Which one do you recommend for a SRV/Hendrix clean kinda sound without that speaker swap?
Greetings from Brazil!
I have 6 HRd's and 3 have Cannabis Rex (my favorites) two have Vintage 30's and one has a Jensen Alnico. Frankly, I like them all!
Thought this would be about what speaker sounded best in a HR Delxe
Love ur vids! Keep it up man
Thanks mate, will do. :-) Thanks for watching.

Vintage 30 forever!!! Never heard an amp that didn't sound exponentially better after swapping the stock speaker with a v30
WSG Veteran 30 blows the Celestion version away - paired with a WSG Invader or ET60 and you have Tonal Nirvana - IMHO & YMMV
Im looking at getting a cabinet for the first time, and im a total noob so could you do a guide to buying cabinets. What should i buy i have no idea.

Where is the speaker swap video? You have a little graphic for it but it isn't a link and there is no link in your description.
