FYI; be sure to use release Retroleap v2.0.0-alpha4 files, extract those in the same folder of /ssflash, when you copy the game be sure there is blank space between : scp -i ~/sshflash/keys/id_rsa and /home/user/RETROLEAP/roms/rom_name.nes like: scp -i ~/sshflash/keys/id_rsa /home/user/RETROLEAP/roms/rom_name.nes ...
The leapster was me and my brother's very first handheld console. I have fond memories of playing finding Nemo on it. Leapfrog handhelds had a large impact on my interest in gaming. Although I own a 2ds, I still would love to relive those memories of playing the leapster.
Hey, this was great. I have mine up and running. I did notice you can change the settings if you go to Apps -> Explorer then /usr/bin and find the emulator and launch it. This allowed me to change some settings. There is also some folders in there to drop borders, palletes, and saves, although I have not tried that yet. Have you had any luck on getting other emulators on there? I can't make heads or tails of the emulator's distribution to try other emultors. I tired a linux and anbernic build of mgba but neither seemed to take.
Thanks for this quide. I got an Explorer recently (they pop up at thrift stores sometimes too) and was debating if there's anything else I can do with it or if I should just sell it now that I've played the one game I wanted (Neopets for Didj). I can follow instructions but I'm not a "computer person".
I have been at this for eight hours at this point. For the life of me, no matter what I do, I cannot transfer the roms over to the Leapster's internal storage.
I used PopOS to flash a leapsterGS...now I'm trying to flash the OC firmware and it wont connect...tried the windows method and Ubuntu...really the GBA games run GREAT already...the GS is perfect for GBA
Yo can anyone help me, I got it all set up and then as soon as I was going to launch an snes game, it did a reboot and then went straight to the recovery screen that has those yellow exclamation ⚠️ marks flashing on the leapfrog and computer logos that when I try to troubleshoot it by simply turning it off and on or even going to reinstall the whole thing again, it just wont load. The thing is I’ve redone the steps like I had done just before when it was working just fine multiple times and all it says every time is No route to host, It wont let me access into the leapfrog explorer meaning I cant install retroleap. Im on a vm just like you are with Pop OS and I’ve followed everything and still no luck😔
You might have more luck trying out the recovery process running Pop!_OS on bare metal instead of in a VM, just to avoid any issues with USB passthrough.
@@probablyhades Can I do that by just plugging in a hdd through USB (the highest it goes to is 2.0) into my laptop with the Pop os iso already on it and just proceed to run it from my laptop’s boot manager?
If you're using an external drive, you'll want one with persistent storage to make sure you have enough storage for the tools required. This link should help: www.usbmemorydirect.com/blog/creating-your-own-linux-live-usb-with-persistent-memory/@@aramrz08
@@probablyhades Ok thank you I will try that but before I do, Is it possible to make a portable version where I can just run Pop os off a usb 30gb flash drive or do I need to make a partition for it onto my main drive? Right now I would have to buy a hdd if I did it running off its own hard drive but I just realized I have a usb drive on hand I can use and was wondering if it could just be installed like that onto usb without messing with my main internal hdd

I’ve actually been waiting for something like this to be made… I actually had one of these growing up!
I just bought the other 1 that was on ebay for $46 it came in the mail today here in Australia 🤘🏼
This is perfect, can easily bring life back to the system since these go cheap at the flea market

I used to have one of those and I'd love to do this
im having a problem with the host port where my connection timed out and wont boot unless its connected
The Leapster GS can somehow run PS1 games (2D PS1 games even at full speed)
Awesome can I play Pokemon super Mystery Dungeon on this cuz then it'll really be a educational console

Thanks yqou for that, it seems very intresting. Dors it works with Sega master système and game Gear ?
I must not be the only one trying to turn a LeapFrog into a Sonic-themed handheld lol
its not really working for me
im trying to do the install git python code but when i enter it tells me python has no installation candidate

I got it to work up to there by saying "python2" instead but I still haven't gotten the installation to work

It has gotten way easier to transfer ROMs maybe do a follow up video.

You *should* be able to run it off the flash drive.@@aramrz08
I know you said that it is long power hardware, but can you emulate gba games?
Yes
Can i do this with an original leapster and not an explorer or gs?
I’m not 100% sure, but you should be able to find an answer on the Retroleap Github page.
late reply but no the orginal leapster is too weak
