Several Pothos varieties exist and we are going to review each one. Pothos (pronounced POH-thows) are one of the most popular houseplants. This is due to their low maintenance and beauty. They are perfect for beginner plant parents. These hardy plants feature green leaves splashed and marbled in shades of yellow, cream, or white.
Epipremnum (ep-ih-PREM-num) aureum is its botanical name, but commonly referred to as Devil’s Ivy, Solomon Islands Ivy, Hunter’s Robe, Taro Vine, Money Plant, Ceylon creeper, or Ivy arum.
A tropical aroid vine in the family Araceae (a-RAY-see-ee). They can grow in any type of light, even under a fluorescent light, making them perfect for home or office. All pothos plants are considered to be air purifiers and are efficient at cleaning the air of harmful chemicals (formaldehyde, trichloroethene, toluene, xylene, and benzene).
PHILODENDRON POTHOS (fil-oh-DEN-dron)
Philodendrons that vine are also referred to or often mistaken as pothos. These vining philodendrons have wider and rounder heart shaped leaves compared to epipremnum aureum pothos, and they do have the ability to climb up, not just trail. When they are growing new leaves they tend to point or grow up in search of something to grab on to. When the leaves are young they are peach or pink in color and they fade into green or into their variegation as the leaves mature.
SCINDAPSUS POTHOS (skin-DAP-sus)
Another variety that is commonly called pothos, falls under Scindapsus. However they are not actually pothos. Although a botanical cousin of Epipremnum aureum pothos. In fact pothos were previously classified as scindapsus, but the next few plants I am going to review are in fact officially classified as scindapsus pictus. It is very common to see scindapsus pictus varieties sold as silver philodendrons or silver or satin pothos in nurseries or big box stores as their common name.

This is the most thorough video I have watched on the more current cultivators of Pothos, Scindapsus, Epipremnum, and Philodendron. I totally enjoyed it and you broke down the pictures and descriptions so well. It all can get very confusing even when growers are labeling them wrong. Just today I saw the most beautiful " Supposed Pothos" starting to hit the US market & I found out it's just a lovely ornamental ginger. It's fetching ridiculous prices because it's mislabels. It's being labeled as Scindapsus Ekor Merok Peacock. Just a heads up. I just received several rooted cuttings of an unknown Epipremnum. It looks exactly like Pearls & Jade but the leaves from the mother plant get 10 inches long. If anyone has any idea of what it could be I'd be most appreciative.💚🌱
Interesting about the rooted cuttings. I am not quite sure, but very curious to know as well.
There is a new one called "Baltic Blue". Great video. Thanks for sharing!!
Yes! I need to include that one next time!
Really appreciate how thorough this is and the side-by-side comparisons.! Excellent; thank you! 👏🏻😊

This video was SO informative!!! I have been collecting pothos cuttings for the past few months and finally planted them all, but needed assistance to figure out exactly what varieties I have. This was so helpful and covered all the ones I currently have, PLUS gave me some new ideas for my wish list! out of the 27 you covered, I already have 17 or 18 of them! Thank you SO MUCH. I'm going to share this video with my facebook plant groups :)

👌 This was so enjoyable to watch. There were a few types I've never seen before, but I'll be watching for them now.
I really enjoy your videos because I can tell you spend time preparing your script rather than making it up as you go along. It makes such a difference in the final product.
I just want to add one comment about the Hawaiian pothos. You said it was "immune to diseases," but mine was super sensitive to mealybugs (not a disease, I know), and I couldn't save the plant.
It was only a 4" pot, but it was soooo beautiful and one of my most favorite pothos. I was so disappointed I couldn't eradicate those rotten bugs!
I don't know why the Hawaiian is uncommon in my large city (Portland, Oregon), but I'll buy the very NEXT one I see, and treat it for mealybugs IMMEDIATELY.
💚Thank you!
This is the best video I’ve seen on distinguishing between the various types of variegated pothos . 👍🏻

So nice of you
Lovely video and loved the beautiful presentation
Thank you! Cheers!
I see so many varieties sold as golden pothos. My own feeling I'd love to see more plants sold with their botanical names and common names, this helps make it easier to look up their care. All plants with better light do better.
I agree! That would be wonderful to have both names.
Great video! Very informative
Glad you think so!

Love this, I truly have a love affair with pothos, I have the global green, marble queen, njoy, golden and a Baltic blue and always on the look out for new ones to add to my family
Awesome! They really are amazing!! Thanks for watching!
That was an amazing presentation. Thank you. I'm still confused about the Scindapsus as they still all look very much the same to me - and that is = gorgeous plants lol
I have a lot of Pothos, Philodendrons and Scindapsus. Sadly I can't venture into the bigger varieties as space is limited - unfortunately.
thanks again - keep posting🙂
Thanks so much for watching and your nice comment! Take Care Charlie!
So much information, very easily digestible and pleasantly presented. Thank you! Do you know anything about the “Baltic Blue”? It’s one I recently picked up, at least that’s the name it was sold under. It’s similar to a cebu, but very dark jade like leaves and slightly longer and thinner shaped…
Yay! I am glad it was helpful. Baltic Blue pothos is a close relative of Cebu Blue pothos. Baltic Blue is darker and leaves that fenestrate earlier than Cebu and Cebu Blue has silvery-blue leaves. What is cool about Baltic Blue, is it's leaves will grow in size even without something to climb on. Care is typically the same as other pothos as well.
Love your vlog. I have been trying to find a Harlequin pothos. I just cannot find it anywhere.
They are def hard to find!! Try etsy!
Thank you so much!! I had no idea there were so many variations of pothos!! My son is going to kill me as I collect the different types 😬🤭. I think I just rescued an NJoy yesterday for $1.80. It is so beautiful 😍. Cannot wait to replant it. I am also grateful for this video because now I can identify the ones I already have, plus I now understand why some are turning more green and less varieted. Thank you again. Subscribed ❤
What a steal for $1.80! I love finding plants like that!! And I hear ya on the kids. Mine won’t even set foot in a nursery with me anymore 😂
@@moodyblooms Yes it definitely was, and I got about 12 plants from it!! All in water and they are doing very well. I also have Golden Pothos and learned that when I did some cuttings, I cut a vine that was very green but cut it along a variated part of the stem and the new growth came out half golden white and half green!! So beautiful. God is so amazing. Thank you again for sharing and teaching us!! Blessings
Yes He is indeed. Nature is magical ✨ happy growing! 💚🌳💚
Super!!! ❤ спасибо
Thanks!
Is the Glacier “owned” by Costa Farms? Like the Raven ZZ?
Great video! I learned my mystery pothos is the Glacier!
Glad I watched this, all this time I thought I had an N joy but its got speckling on both white and green leaves. Oh well good excuse to go get a N joy to add to my pothos collection 😆 Thankyou so much for your detailed information because most plant stores I go to are mis labeled or no labels at all. I also hate it when you go to a big box store and the labels all say tropical plant 😠
Yep always mislabeled!! How are we supposed to keep track if they can't even get it right!?? Thanks so much for watching DW. Have a great week!
Weird. I’m scrolling Pinterest looking at a Sansiveria cheat sheet and your video started playing after the other pothos video I’m watching and it’s your picture I’m looking at. 😮 that just freaked me out, I looked at the name in the middle at the same time she said it in the intro!
That is odd!!
Complete guide about pothos
thanks
Большое спасибо. Увидела в вашем видео сорта, которых у меня нет. Прекрасные фото для сравнения. Замечательное видео.
:)
Loved this video! Two quick questions: are NJoy and Pearls and Jade compatible to plant together and does pruning pothos/philodendrons regularly when they are young help produce a fuller plant on top?
Hi Cristi! Thanks so much for watching. I combine mine all the time and they do just fine. I prefer a bushier jade so I always prune them back or use a floral pin to kind of wrap it and pin it. That way it "appears" fuller.
Hi, would you produce a video regarding the Scindapsus Treubii Moonlight and the Treubii Dark Form?
I have just added those to my "to do" list! Just a warning...I am a bit behind!
My pearls and jade growth vs my philo Brasil are light years apart!
My Brasil grows like a weed!
What do you recommend in planting a marble queen or Manjula in. Mixture?
If your Marble Queen has come from a garden centre or nursery, it'll often arrive in a fine, dense, soil-based or peat-based mix. Great for growing in a greenhouse, but often too high in water retention (and too low in oxygen) for a typical home.
If you find your substrate is taking a long time to dry out (more than a week) or your Marble Queen is showing any signs of root rot, consider repotting into a chunkier, airier, faster-drying aroid mix.
Marble queen and Manjula pothos usually do well in a wide range of soil types, as long as the soil drains well. It likes a mixture that's a bit on the acidic side. I typically do 2/3 potting mix with 1/3 perlite mixed in well.

I have moon light, neon, manjula, marble queen, jade, golden and heartleaf philodendrons. My favorite I would have to say moon light
Wow, you have an amazing collection!
@Moody Blooms thank you I wish we could post pics to RUclips. I am very proud of my philodendron so far...really all of them but my moonlight and my philodendron are my heart
Aww I love that! They really are magical ✨ plants💚🌳💚
My marble queen turned into a snow queen & the njoy turned into a glacier, very weird!
Interesting. I wonder if the marble queen was actually a snow queen all along, but was just not getting enough light to maintain its variegation? I have a snow queen that I am pretty sure has some marble queen cuttings in it to begin with. My other snow queen will definitely darken when it does not get enough light.
From what I understand, Glacier pothos are actually more common than N'Joy, and a lot of known N'Joys are actually Glaciers! Honestly they look so similar sometimes, it really is hard to tell the difference. Sometimes even nurseries or garden centers even label them wrong.
Maam gud evng where shall we buy the varieties of photos I have a collection but not all.
Check out my pothos post here: moodybloomsco.com/pothos-varieties-with-pictures/ for different varieties and links to pothos for sale.
Is the silver stripe philodendron a rare variety?
It is not as common as other varieties, but can still be found in several stores. It is actually linked in the "View Products" in the bottom left corner of the video.
Maam where can I buy your photos I have only 4 varieties
Hi Barbie! Check out my pothos post here: moodybloomsco.com/pothos-varieties-with-pictures/ for different varieties and links to pothos for sale.
