Just a note, you don’t have to saturate the prefilter for the air filter. A smaller amount will do just fine.
He's a great teacher. He should be teaching small engines at a local community college. Very well spoken and good common sense.
another great video ,,, that dude knows what he is talking about !!!! i did collision repair for 36 yrs in the automotive industry , i specialized in train wrecks now i enjoy small engine repair ,, when i was a kid i would ride my bike around the neighborhood on trash day and bring home old lawn mowers and i loved getting em running ,, now im back at it and its a great and its a very viable skill to have these days with the cheap gas gig ,, there is a demand for small engine repair for sure .. keep up the cool videos ,, thanks again

Great tutorial Hank. I remember when one of these went for sale at the old farm and I didn't grab it. damn thing sold for $90 because the owner couldn't get it running. turned out it was just the seat safety switch!

I have a LA130 21 hp. Briggs and Straten. $60.00 for the tune up kit a the John Deere Dealership. Also has the two quarts of oil in it. The oil drain is on the opposite side of the oil filter. Draining the oil is a pain too. 😫. Shawn.

Just FYI it appeared you screwed the dip stick in to check the oil level .. Koehler and this specific model says to turn counter clockwise until the threads click .. then check oil level.
As long as you fill it to the full mark it’s not a big deal. Splitting hairs. That maybe only accounts for a quarter f the cross hatch area so if it’s full screwed all the way in it will still be in spec
I would have to agree with you but thought I would mention it. Actually Koehler is said to be sensitive to over-fill so your method might give some cushion. Thanks
no prob, ive heard that as well. My method still should leave it in cross-hatch on dipstick
My JD manual says only a few drops on the (admittedly much smaller) air prefilter. Should I be saturating it like you say here? For reference, I'm dealing with a JD STX38.

I have this same lawn mower and it just won’t crank. I’ve done all these things and all it does it just turn over. Never cranks
What was the spark plug number
Ours smokes a little on startup as well, no big deal.

Hank. What would cause my 23hp Kohler JD L150 (APPROX 8 YRS OLD) with 499 hours on it to diesel when shutting down? Also, how do you clear the flashing meter showing service engine ?
Ted Buriak carb might need to be cleaned out as for the meter maybe disconnect and reconnect battery. Not sure mine doesn't have that feature.
