Had a visit to my girlfriend's relatives in KC, turns out her uncle REALLY likes bourbon. I used all the training I learned from Rex, and managed to mooch myself some Blantons, Eagle Rare, 1792 Full Proof, and Weller 107. It was a good night.

Did you really just say “bourbon equivalent to Scotch?????” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 high end scotches are single malts, meaning distilled and bottled at a single distillery using a mash made up entirely of malted barley. Bourbon has to be at least 51% corn. Most bourbons are around 75% corn. Some are as low as 60 while others are as high as 80-84. Apples and oranges there buddy.

Green spot, to me, is the whiskey preventing me from becoming a snob.
40% abv, coloured, filtered, NAS, mass produced. It really, in nerdyness, loses out on 90% of my whisk(e)ys. But I still enjoy it, so freaking much. Theres a complexity and depth to it that matches a lot of my favorites. Heck, it IS one of my favorites.

And I have to say that I really like the nose, taste and finish of this Whiskey. As a bonus you can get this for $25 for a liter.

I think that Buffalo Trace might be both the most n00b friendly (for tasting) and the most nerd focused (for purchasing). At least where I'm at in central FL, it's very difficult to find anything from their distillery, so to buy it you have to already know about it, be willing to ask for it, and possibly go to several stores, just to find a $20-25 bottle. I haven't seen it on a shelf around here in at least 3 years.

You guys are very entertaining and I've learned quite a bit about whiskey since watching your videos, but I'm afraid I may always remain a newb, since I prefer whiskey in a cocktail rather than by itself.
I never could pick out different scents in the nose or different flavors in the taste, even with wine, in which I've had more experience.
I prefer sour flavors over every other taste. I haven't heard of any whiskey that was distinctly sour (and not in a bad way, like rotten). I love sour beers and sour flavored cocktails.
