at 7:45 you're playing one of my riffs from my solo guitar instrumental "Rise Up to Be", which I gave to Jeff Buckley and which became the instrumental basis of our song "Grace"--thanks, Tore! in fact I have used your earliest TC compression and booster guitar stomp boxes in my effects lineup since 1989, and was using them in the studio in Bearsville for "Grace" and "Mojo Pin" for Jeff's "Grace" album, in tandem with my '64 Strat.
As a tech-guy I can say with confidence that you are real innovators! your products are really awesome, functional and easy to use! I don't know how you do it, but it worth each penny!!!
Its the 4th 9f July 2020 and I just returned the Source Audio Nemisis for the Flashback x4 v1 and I wont look back. Far more natural sounding and doesnt get in the way of playing or singing. Love the Flashback x4.
Just got this amazing pedal. The versatility and ease of use is just incredible, build quality is perfect, from foot switches to control knobs to the actual box that is light, yet built like a tank. The looper function is far superior to the similarly priced Boss RC-3 (which I had owned, but sold) and gives you better sound quality. The plethora of tone prints can be instantly 'beamed' from your smartphone which is handy for a delay beginner like me. And, surprisingly, the 'analog' delay sounds way better than my Memory Boy. Best purchase I've ever made.
I went through several different delays (DD-20, T-Rex reptile2, aqua puss..) and FINALLY ended up with the Flashback X4! It has tap tempo and 3 different presets which is perfect. AND it didn't change the sound of my Big Muff! My buffered boss totally screwed up my muff so that was a major concern, but this pedal is perfect!
This is my favorite multi-preset delay pedal. I use this for a couple delay sounds that don't change except in terms of tempo, and this pedal does the job, especially when paired with a Strymon BlueSky. It's very easy to use live. I even sold mine to get a Timeline, and regretted it immediately, because I don't need all those sounds to do what I need to do. I would buy a second one in a heartbeat. I would also love to try out the v2 version in the future.
Bought it, love it. Between TCE and EHX I'm extremely happy with all my pedals and had no issues at all. The tone print option is a wonderful idea. I haven't seen or heard any other manufactures offering anything similar. Not to say that it's not out there?
how do i get this thing to loop properly? i play something way under 40 seconds and it refuses to loop from the beginning. it always start looping about a quarter or half way through what i just played. if i do a really short little loop it works fine, but as i start to push 25 or 30 seconds, it will not loop what i just played from the beginning. does the loop timer have something to do with how fast the delay is set or is it an independent clock?
You really should consider making a Hall of Flashbacks delay and reverb pedal. I was about to sell my Flashback X4 but watching this again I remembered how excited I was when I bought it and all the good times we had, so I decided it's a keeper... modern classic!
+TC Electronic I have a doubt. Can I chose time figures (1/8. or 1/4 or both) on toneprint editor for iPad and then set a numerical BPM value for it? A sugestion, you guys should make the strum tap tempo available on X4.
do you have to register the flashback to get the artist prints...the website support is really poor. Just about ready to chunk this in the trash. they are not clear on the steps to get this to work. I read the forum, not much help. when i am in the library page, the : send to pedal button" is not lit...i can control sounds in the editor page. but i am trying to get artist prints.
Just wondering if it's possible to start a loop form the start multiple times using the ONCE footswitch. In other words to start the loop, let it run for a certain amount of time and then start it from the start again without having to stop it first...
On flashback x4 (version 1), it is possible to record a loop and press a button to stop the recording and not to playback it immediately (just saving loop to play it later in the song)? If yes, what's that button?
My A switch failed right out of the box! Ran across at least 4 others that had the same issue. Now I am afraid to exchange it for another. Next time I may not be able to return it to the local music store.
I don't understand about Instant Access 2.45 It's stored is ?? can save sound ? tell me please i don't understand :) I want to save sound delay on "B" what am i doing . please tell me ^^
+Sergii Krynytskyi to some degree. The looper in the X4 only has 40sec of looping time though. If you intend to loop live, then I would see the X4 and the Ditto as a much stronger team :)
Hi, there isn't a possibility in the future to update the firmware to save and recall more than just 3 presets via MIDI? Thank you, best regards from Brasil.
hi ! I opened the pedal to have the "spill" option : do you confirm that by doin' this, it kills the "ping pong" (i mean, it does do it "side to side" anymore) ?
Today I tested the pedal in a music shop and, as much as I am impressed by the quality of the models, there is one major deal breaker for me, which I haven't read yet mentioned in any of the raving reviews I found online: am I the only one who is missing the replication of the analog models self-oscillation? When I turn the feedback all the way up and manipulate the delay time, the X4 reacts in a lifeless, choppy, sterile digital way. Anyone else noticed that?
Cause it's a digital pedal man if you need that analog oscillation get the TC Echobrain its only 49€ or 60$ I will get one just for that crazy oscillation sounds
It's not the fact that it's digital: Boss' digital delays (DD-n) have some algorithms that allow for self-oscillation and proper wub wub. I was disappointed as well when I got my Flashback, but then it grew on me, and you can get some equally interesting sounds using that choppy stuff. The best would be indeed to get another delay for getting monkey crazy. Each his own :)
I bought the original flashback and just recently bought the x4 and its killer. I just have have questions about the buffered bypass, the manual isn't clear like it was for the flashback. Any help is appreciated!
Does anyone know if it is possible to use use the toneprint editor to create effects that sound close to the ones on the Alter ego x4? I'm trying to justify the difference in prices between the 2
Yes you can. The sounds in the Alter Ego X4 is based on the same algorithm as the Flashback X4, so all you need is a good ear, and enough time with the editor. It took us and the guys at PGS a good while to dial in those tones in the Alter Ego X4. The devil is in the detail as they say :)
any chance that you add a modulation delay with a vibrato instead of chorus ? like on the memory man ... i love the sound of that and i want to buy a delay pedal in near
+Thomas Weishäupl we have tons of delays with vibrato in the TonePrint app. So you simply just beam one to the pedal. You can also make your own delay via the TonePrint Editor if you prefer to do that :) You can learn more about TonePrint here: www.tcelectronic.com/toneprint/toneprint-guitar/

+TC Electronic and thanks for the answer i'm a tc fan and user since years :)
He's playing Hansen guitars. A Danish luthier brand. The strat is a Hansen S-Tone, the Tele/Gibson hybrid is a Hansen G-Tone and the Tele is a hansen T-Tone. Killer axes!
yes you can, but cannot use presets. You just use the "delay level" knob to bring delay in or out for loops. it's actually really fun to use the delay to provide precise rhythms to build your loops on.
+Beto Torres the pedal is set to true bypass per default, which doesn't allow trails, but you can switch the pedal to buffered bypass via the internal DIP switches, which will enable the delays to trail even after the pedal is bypassed.
Can someone please tell me : i got it for lke one week, and i can't figure out what the B and C buttons are for on delay mode. I mean, i see it's different BUT imagine : you're on A, ok, you play it. Fine. You press on B or C, and the delay time has nothing to do with A unless you go tap it again, can't figureo ut why ? is this on purpose (if so, I just don't get it). I mean you can't jumpt from A to B or C in a same song/pattern so I don't see the use of this really. MMmm ?
+Jose Santos - A, B and C are just presets. They store the exact settings you dialed in when saving. So it's more for different types of delays/echoes during a set.
alright, and i press on A like to seconds to store it on a on a definite section (like, "tube") right ? but then i just wonder, what is the way to have the pedal play like "a normal one" with no preset ? Like : if i press on my "tube"+A i got the delay at a certain "delay time" setting : then if i go to B i got another one. NOW i come back to A, the setting will be the preset's one, so I cannot go back to a "free setting" that had the "delay time" that i had before (not sure to be clear in my qustion) ?
Andres Paredes i don't even now anymore. This pedal may be just too complicated for me. Juste the fact the ping pong is not stereo ping pong on preset A drives me mad, and i ain't got time to go and mess with the toneprint thng. but thx man !
I BEG YOU ON MY KNEES, WHATEVER YOU WANT ! Would you be kind enought to tell me why the ping pong does not work as ping pong on preset A ? it's not stereo at all. It only does stereo on B (but it's kinda special... "dotted"). I don't wanna mess around with the toneprint (that i don't get at all anyway), i just want this damn ping pong to be.. ping pong in STEREO. My roland JC40 begs for it. Asked on forum and support but no answer so far. Thanx !
i have my flashback 4 now since 5 years ! Been absolutely awesome ! I am sorry to bring my question here, but its absolutely impossible to get through to your your service center www.tcelectronic.com/service.html, this is not working out as i hoped ! Please does anyone here experience this issue of delay not working when flip the switch from delay mode to looper? Delay works perfectly but looper no has no lights and does not respond as before ! Please love this pedal and need it to be working again ! thanks !
Very surprised to learn that despite all the claims of "listening" and "support" of your customers and users, tc refused provide a firmware update to solve even the most basic Midi features that x4 users have been asking for since 2012. You are driving people away from your gear to strymon and eventide. Please offer a patch to bypass midi!!!
Digital analog not analog. Delay speed doesn't act like analog, sorry. You know how analog runs away when you adjust the feedback back and forth and it freaks out and sounds all good? It doesn't doesn't do that and that's analog. Fake analog not good, other than that it's all good. I have the dawner prince boonar, belle epoche deluxe, dunlop echoplex, and the flashback x4 and guess which one is on my board? Nope, you were wrong, it's the flashback believe it or not, true story. I like having 3 delays at my feet in one pedal, and tap tempo. Works for me, J.S.
Hey Randy! Appreciate the feedback and I'm happy to know you're enjoying the Flashback X4 despite it's drawbacks. :) Will definitely bring this up with the TCE team and see how they can improve future products. :) - Diego
Jesus Pedroza not for using this in a studio. They have many applications. Also, really useful if you have a bunch of delays on your board and you want to hook them all up to a midi controller pedal to have synced tempos without having to tap for each individually.
Right - and when you're on stage and go from a complex rhythm part into an instant lead needing you to switch amp channel, boost, overdrive, reverb, delay and chorus on a single beat...... well, never mind.
at 7:45 you're playing one of my riffs from my solo guitar instrumental "Rise Up to Be", which I gave to Jeff Buckley and which became the instrumental basis of our song "Grace"--thanks, Tore!
in fact I have used your earliest TC compression and booster guitar stomp boxes in my effects lineup since 1989, and was using them in the studio in Bearsville for "Grace" and "Mojo Pin" for Jeff's "Grace" album, in tandem with my '64 Strat.
Wow, for some reason I've always thought that it was Jeff Buckley's music. Amazing riff, Gary.
That’s awesome man! Keep on rockin✌️
I KNEW I recognized this... absolutely EPIC riff 💯
I subbed for Jeff in Kathryn Grimme's band and still play with his first bass player Jason. Cheers
Just picked one of these up in 2020 and still such an awesome delay!
As a tech-guy I can say with confidence that you are real innovators! your products are really awesome, functional and easy to use! I don't know how you do it, but it worth each penny!!!
Just bought one today. Glad videos like this exist!
The way the app transfers the presets to the pedal is absolutely genius! I wonder, who the heck came up with that crazy but brilliant idea.
The future is here!
Its the 4th 9f July 2020 and I just returned the Source Audio Nemisis for the Flashback x4 v1 and I wont look back. Far more natural sounding and doesnt get in the way of playing or singing. Love the Flashback x4.

I love that you played the Grace rift!
I own one of these units and I'm super hyped about them, best delay pedal in its price range definitely! Thank you very much TC.
This is on my wish list.. I love the color as well
I bought it 3 weeks ago and it sounds awesome!! I'm using it into my Marshall 6100's loop (with my TC HOF) and it's great!
This video is for the purpose of learning the features, There are plenty of other video demos of the flashback and audio demos on the TC site.
One of the main reasons I watch these TC Electronic videos is because of this guys awesome accent.
Also because I desperately want that pedal.
The fact that he played Jeff Buckley just convinced completely that this pedal and this company are worth guitarists time of day. Great demo!
This is my favorite multi-preset delay pedal. I use this for a couple delay sounds that don't change except in terms of tempo, and this pedal does the job, especially when paired with a Strymon BlueSky. It's very easy to use live. RIP Line 6 DL4
Wouldn't it be better if the dedicated tap tempo switch had a press and hold feature to activate the looper? Just an idea.
Can you stack the delays on this? And will the looper function ok in a parallel FX loop?
So can you stack the delay presets? Like use delay A and B at the same time?
What is that switch with the music notes on it in between the delay tike and feedback knob?
Does the looper sync with the midi clock/sync feature? Will a loop be quantised to the nearest beat?
No you can't Robert Lowe. But you can with our new Flashback Triple Delay. Check it out here: bit.ly/flashback-triple-delay
+TC Electronic I have a doubt. Can I chose time figures (1/8. or 1/4 or both) on toneprint editor for iPad and then set a numerical BPM value for it?
A sugestion, you guys should make the strum tap tempo available on X4.
AMAIZING!
Love that you played Reef!! Does this pedal allow you to program a set a bpm rather than tapping the tempo?
do you have to register the flashback to get the artist prints...the website support is really poor. Just about ready to chunk this in the trash. they are not clear on the steps to get this to work. dl4 had a great life span and a huge success, time for a well deserved retirement ;-)
Is it normal that when changing presets some delays don't respond immediately in the split second after changing them?
On flashback x4 (version 1), it is possible to record a loop and press a button to stop the recording and not to playback it immediately (just saving loop to play it later in the song)? If yes, what's that button?

I am finding very little information most of which contadicts itself on which expression pedal can be used. Suggestions please?
I don't understand about Instant Access 2.45
It's stored is ?? can save sound ?
tell me please i don't understand :)
I want to save sound delay on "B"
what am i doing . please tell me ^^
So if I understand correctly, it basically can replace my ditto looper? I'd love to have a ditto looper with those amazing delays..
Thank you, best regards from Brasil.
hello what reglage for reggae music?
hey tc! nice work guys! any chance that you sell the knobs only for flashback x4, somewhere or even here at Indonesia?
Can't seem to get my alter ego x4 to take a toneprint via the app. any ideas?
This pedal is looking great! Is it also possible to midi-sync the looper to, let's say, a drummachine or external clock?
Can you use an external tap tempo with the expression pedal jack? I have a second delay I'd like to sync the tempo with from an external tap switch.
Do you think this pedal could replace an EHX Freeze pedal? Does it have a function like that? Thank you for your help :)
Very imfomative and i want to purchace a looper in the near future.nice tele, who makes it.
hi !
I opened the pedal to have the "spill" option : do you confirm that by doin' this, it kills the "ping pong" (i mean, it does do it "side to side" anymore) ?
Is there going to be a Hall of Fame Reverb version of this pedal
too (with mash)?
can u stil tap to determine the tempo of presets?
can you run delay "A" into delay "B" for example?? or can you only use one delay at a time?
Today I tested the pedal in a music shop and, as much as I am impressed by the quality of the models, there is one major deal breaker for me, which I haven't read yet mentioned in any of the raving reviews I found online: am I the only one who is missing the replication of the analog models self-oscillation? Is there reverb built in the amp or something? Or is it all from the pedal??
when using the looper, can you still do tap tempo or do you have to set that up prior to switching from delay to looper with the dipswitch?
I bought the original flashback and just recently bought the x4 and its killer. I just have have questions about the buffered bypass, the manual isn't clear like it was for the flashback. Any help is appreciated!
Sure, what do you want to know, mate?
I think I have it figured out. Just wondering if you use it in a loop and what setting you use for the kill dry and buffered bypass.
Does anyone know if it is possible to use use the toneprint editor to create effects that sound close to the ones on the Alter ego x4? I'm trying to justify the difference in prices between the 2

does it cut off when u switch delays
Technical question: will a loop on this pedal sync view midi to a loop my ehx 45000 looper pedal? Or does it only sync delay times?
only delay times
what are the pickups on his guitar?
Can you assign tone prints to each of those preset slots/switches ?
Only the last 4.
any chance that you add a modulation delay with a vibrato instead of chorus ? like on the memory man ... i love the sound of that and i want to buy a delay pedal in near

Where would you place this in your signal chain (as it is both loop and delay), would it go straight into your effects loops?
Whether you're out of the loop or in, put it after everythinf but before your reverb.
Whether you're out of the loop or in, put it after everything but before your reverb.
A lil off topic here.. But any idea what guitar Tore's playing..??
He's playing Hansen guitars. A Danish luthier brand. The strat is a Hansen S-Tone, the Tele/Gibson hybrid is a Hansen G-Tone and the Tele is a hansen T-Tone. Killer axes!
I have this pedal and when I turn it on I get a volume boost too I didn't want to... Is it possible to change that ?
you adjust the delay level, that essentially means volume for the delay effect. If you turn it all the way down, you just get a dry guitar signal
Can you use the looper at the same time as the delays? I just bought the Flashback and don't see a way (thus far) you can do both at the same time.
yes you can, but cannot use presets. You just use the "delay level" knob to bring delay in or out for loops. it's actually really fun to use the delay to provide precise rhythms to build your loops on.
Do these demos have reverb added?
Are you using a pedal for the overdrive sound?
What song at 8:50 its on the tip of my tongue and I cant for the life of me remember
Hi I need to know if It trail away when you turn the pedal off or the signal dies ? Thanks
+Beto Torres the pedal is set to true bypass per default, which doesn't allow trails, but you can switch the pedal to buffered bypass via the internal DIP switches, which will enable the delays to trail even after the pedal is bypassed.
+TC Electronic thanks..does the Alter Ego Vintage Echo x4 do the same ...? (trail)
Beto Torres yes :)
What guitar is he using at 5:40?
Awesome!
I think andertons in UK already carries it..

The ONLY things this delay is missing is the option for tails when you turn it off and more importantly, preset banks!
If you put it in buffered mode it can do tails 🙂
I try to set the preset but it din'd work.:( how to set preset
Give us a shout on Facebook, Daniel and we'll help you out :-)
can you preset your subdivsion?
Jonathan Lewis Yes :)

boss dd killer
This was crying out for a dual delay engine.
Great now some nut with an Android can wirelessly hack my delay during a show. (nervous glances).
Back in the day when tore didnt looked like the hound from game of thrones :D
Still miss Tore
"Delaycious" indeed...

Why even put a looper on it if you can't use it with the delay. Silly pedal
MIDI inputs are a beautiful ornament , better remove it, and make a smallest unit , the MIDI feature are useless
Jesus Pedroza not for using this in a studio. They have many applications. Also, really useful if you have a bunch of delays on your board and you want to hook them all up to a midi controller pedal to have synced tempos without having to tap for each individually.

Tore's apartment is way bigger than mine.
more playing, less yakking
