Chapman announces it in the beginning but I might as well repeat as it's asked. He uses a Silverback Chapman signature amp. If I had to pick one setting, I'd choose space but this kind of pedal is perfect for guys who have a preferred delay but who needs a different thing from time to time like me. Plus, adding the TonePrint technology with 4 choices is also a great call for the TC Electronics team for people who just want a great new delay setting without twisting knobs for 2 hours..
Dynamig is compresed while there's a input signal, and then increases in volume once you stop playing. For those moments when you don't want the delay to interfere with what you're playing, but rather have it kick in when you decide to be quiet for a while ;) Just letting you know..
For delay think echo - the note repeats itself over and over. For reverb think shouting in a big laminate floored hall - the note trails off slowly to silence.
I think the dynamic does is when you play fast it doesn't delay but when you hold a note or stop playing it starts to delay. So when you're crazy shredding it doesn't get muddy and the delay doesn't get in your way and when you need the dealy on long notes it's there.
Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to pick this one up. I have Line 6's DL4 and the Flashback seems to feel warmer. Plus, on the DL4 more than a few switches are in need of repair (cheap switches). I hope the FBx4 is more durable.
I'm not going to scan all 151 other comments to see if it's already been said, but a dynamic delay lowers the volume of the delays to let your guitar come through and then brings it up again when you stop playing so you can hear the delay without it cluttering up your regular playing.
Also if you take the reverse setting , put the delay time and feedback all the way down and level all the way up. If its anything like my dd7 it will just play the repeat and sound like a really cool creepy volume swell kinda sound. Really cool.
Hey Chappers, how does this compare to the Line 6 DL4? I'm looking to build a pedalboard within the coming months and a delay pedal like this is what I'm looking for. Perhaps the Captain and yourself could do a delay pedal shootout. One part with larger delay units like the Flashback x4, the Line 6 DL4, and the Boss DD-20. Then a second part with smaller delay units like the standard flashback, the Carbon Copy, and the DD-7. Cheers from Canada, been a fan for a long time!
PLEASE READ: At the time of filming this review there was no manual for the product. The manual was "A work in progress", as a result when I received the prototype I had to review it blind. TC were very happy with the review, but If I missed anything out then I apologise.
depends on two things - 1. do you actually use 4 different delay settings during one gig, and so regularly that bending down and quickly changing 3 knobs is gonna be too much of a hassle to manage with only one in a gig environment? 2. have you got enough room on your pedalboard (assuming you have a pedalboard)? simple. It's like buying 4 of the same pedal. It's definitely great value, I'll tell you that much.
it might come as a surprise but you can have a clean guitar sound too :) it would make for a more complete review and we could hear the way the delay affects the signal a bit better
Hi Chappers, great video (as always), nice new homepage style. The FAQ-section is a bit scanty. Btw I saw that you are endorsed by RedBearPicks. What picks of that company do you prefer?
You can dowload presets from the net via your computer or get the toneprints app and beam presets from your phone through the guitar pickup into the pedal and save the preset if you like it. And it's true bypass as well. I'm having a blast with mine.
The finish of the ML1 is absolutely fab. If you make them even cheaper i can buy one! :D Btw: (if you read this) what patchcables do you use? some cheapo's?
Ach! I love the original flashback, and it has changed my sound. Put a little phaser before it and it becomes otherworldly. If I were a more skilled musician, I'd have to have this one. :)
@RobChappers what are the switches like on this pedal? are they more similar to a line 6 dl4 or is it the same type of switch that TC puts on pedals like the polytune and the original flashback?
yuuuup. looks pretty similar, just in a smaller housing (my dl4 is huge and i had to switch to a Nova for the dotted 1/8th and the bpm readout). if this had a bpm readout, I'd sell my Nova and my DL4 tomorrow....
What? A delay pedal review without a malmsteen/gilbert/buckethead echo type song ? lol. On a serious note I only add feedback on chords, arpeggios and ambient sounds. Too much feedback for me there ; ). It worked well with the tapping though, that was really nice Rob.
Hi Rob, just wondered how much loop time is provided? I have a DL-4 but the loop time is nowhere near long enough for my needs. Keep up the great work!
+El Manimal I just got mine 2 days ago. The possibilities are limitless! I used the toneprint editor to get myself a chorus-like sound. And the looper, man! This pedal is just a combo of chorus, delay and looper, in 1 pedal, with 3 presets! This thing is amazing :D
Got mine after all and I agree its settings are abundant! At first I was a little bummed cuz I thought you couldn't change how MUCH modulation there was on some modes, but then found tone print and OMG its perfect!
Rob, I love the review, but for your next video, could you teach us all on how to use 2 delay pedals at the same time like what Joe Satriani and Andy Timmons do with there delay pedals?
Hey Brian! Thanks for asking... My favorite band is Nickelback. I imagine if The Beatles and Zeppelin had a rockin' jam session with the ghost of Mozart, it might sound half as awesome as Nickelback!
+rob chapman I have a question, which of these three delay pedals is better, Timeline/TimeFactor/FlashbackX4?Now I'm looking at it from a place from, I don't want to lose my tone, I want to be able to have the best tone possible after the pedal is plugged through well everything else. I've heard and read a lot on these four pedals and I can't find a guitar store nearby that has these three just like riiiihhhhh next to each other for me to try out! What should I do?
Chapman announces it in the beginning but I might as well repeat as it's asked. He uses a Silverback Chapman signature amp. thanks. you just saved me hours of reading on the manuel. it's an all you need to know demo in twenty something minutes. GREAT JOB!
Thanks mate, yeah the Silverback, Flashback, ML-2 trio is a thing of beauty to behold ;-)
Every time I go on RUclips I always look for a newnRobChappers video first!
OHHHH MAN the space delay at 05:40 amazed me, i was floating in space for a while
the 2290 modulated part is a very baroness type sound. Really cool pedal, defo gonna get one to go with my normal flashback!
Man I miss your videos Chappers. Only been at Uni for a week. It feels so weird but it is nice to watch your videos. You make me feel at home :)
No, I have the world exclusive review - TC gave me the pedal weeks ago and just gave me the go ahead ;-)
That space echo setting sounds awesome.
As always, TC created an amazing pedal unbelivabely usable and very nice sounding...
Great review, keep going mate \m/
Tapping with the ping pong delay sounds incredible.
Flashback is my favourite delay ever (honestly) but this thing is just fantastic. TC are truly innovating. \m/
riff @4:41 through 4:51 killed me and brought me back from the dead
Love the new website Chappers!!! Great review as ever!

Dynamic delays kick in after you play your riff or whatever, so they don't muddy up things while you're playing! Handy stuff for some uses!
I think the dynamic does is when you play fast it doesn't delay but when you hold a note or stop playing it starts to delay. So when you're crazy shredding it doesn't get muddy and the delay doesn't get in your way and when you need the dealy on long notes it's there.
Picked up a standard Flashback tonight. Loving it!
CHAPPERS, WHY YOU SO AMAZING AT DOING LIFE AND STUFF!!???!!
AWESOME REVIEW Rob
Sweet stuff going on..
Thanks for working hard and always putting up entertaining videos
I look forward to every one of them
M
Love how this is before TC themselves have revealed it.
I got a 2:30minute Carter Beauford drum solo Commercial for GoPro....ABOUT TIME RUclips HAS GOOD COMMERCIALS!
Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to pick this one up. I have Line 6's DL4 and the Flashback seems to feel warmer. Plus, on the DL4 more than a few switches are in need of repair (cheap switches). I hope the FBx4 is more durable.
Dear god. I was extremely happy with my baby Flashback until I saw this video. I strongly suspect I need this in my life.
And...you can plug in an expression pedal to control some effects parameters as well!
And 15:15 that sound is gorgeous !!!
TC just released the editor software at NAMM last week.

You need the feedback up, but yeah!
MrBingping like at the end of eruption?
amazing is your amp miced here or is this just camera mic

Hey Rob! Will the silverback ever be possible to purchase??? I really love the tone!

got one of these downstairs - amazing piece of gear
Space delay reminds me of Devin Townsend! Killer looking pedal!
Cheers mate I appreciate that ;-)
I've got one of these bad boys and I can't live with out it now lol. Love this pedal.
Nice demo. Thanks!
Nice walkthrough. A lot of pedal here!

I just bought one of these pedals, this video is great.... thanks Pal!
The finish of the ML1 is absolutely fab. If you make them even cheaper i can buy one! :D
Btw: (if you read this) what patchcables do you use? some cheapo's?
I can imagine this being A LOT of fun with a sustainer and a floyd :D
15:15 was fantastic !!!
i was hoping a little bit that you would do some brian may delay stuff with the 2 delay pedals
Great demo! Excited to try it. Did TC give you rough release eta and price? Cheers Rob!!
I think you've sold me on this once I have a job, Chappers ;)
You can also download more tone prints off the TC Electronic website
Wonder how much my DL4 will get used after this arrives?
Looking forward to an A/B shootout between them.
Thanks for the demo, was just about to buy the regular... I need a delay, since I use my DL-4 for a looper :)
Is the reason I loved the old Flashback, the brilliant Audio Tap still there?
nice i love the room sound you get by doing that . Also are you a Tc artist ????
Amazing guitar tone.
Ach! I love the original flashback, and it has changed my sound. Put a little phaser before it and it becomes otherworldly. If I were a more skilled musician, I'd have to have this one. :)
Nice review! Do we know if it is still analog dry thru like the original flashback?
That delay seems like a good machine to make music... but where did you buy those pants? I am a huge REX KWON DO fan...
Awesome review Chappers!!! I think I'm gonna buy one, but now I need to sell my old flashback dang it!!!!
@RobChappers what are the switches like on this pedal? are they more similar to a line 6 dl4 or is it the same type of switch that TC puts on pedals like the polytune and the original flashback?
Just pre ordered a ML2 in black cherry!!! :)
That thing is huge!
yuuuup. looks pretty similar, just in a smaller housing (my dl4 is huge and i had to switch to a Nova for the dotted 1/8th and the bpm readout). if this had a bpm readout, I'd sell my Nova and my DL4 tomorrow....
So on the loooper, how long can u record? Can I record a whole 3 minute song?
Nice review! :D
Great review! Is the pedal plugged into the effects loop or is it going straight into the amp's input?
I just noticed the ML-2 is getting satin neck with gloss headstock etc. Taking some inspiration from that Luke III eh ?. Sounds kickass :-D
great tone!
Sounds awesome. The Line6 DL4 may finally be dead?
I have this, just bought it. Don't really need the extra features of the newer version.
What? A delay pedal review without a malmsteen/gilbert/buckethead echo type song ? lol.
On a serious note I only add feedback on chords, arpeggios and ambient sounds. Too much feedback for me there ; ). It worked well with the tapping though, that was really nice Rob.
Thanks mate, just jeep the old one and get this as well ;-)
THanks mate, I'm not contracted to TC although we do work together - I have a Toneprint with them ;-)
best demo of this pedal on youtube.awesome
Hi Rob, just wondered how much loop time is provided? I have a DL-4 but the loop time is nowhere near long enough for my needs. Keep up the great work!
I use a blend of camera mic and an SM57 ;-)
Can this also store the tempo (if tapped in) for say a specific delay or do you have to re-tap the tempo each time you go to use that delay?
Gotta love big knobs
Didn't actually know Chappers already did a review on this pedal! Guna be going out to get this today to repalce my DD-7 and Carbon Copy. :)

Dear TC. Why didn't you make the flashback like that^ from the beginning?
Just bought it yesterday... ITs really amazing!:) don't you have a signature delay, rob?
AWESOME!!!!!! \m/ A great guitar player you are .
Finally a better version of the unreliable Line6 DL4! :)
That particular Chapman guitar had fret markers!!
Rob, I love the review, but for your next video, could you teach us all on how to use 2 delay pedals at the same time like what Joe Satriani and Andy Timmons do with there delay pedals?
I just picked one up on CL for 175$. It was in mint condish, and for my money I think I did quite well..
Sounds pretty good!
nice review, Rob !!!!!!! ...
Sounds rad!
Working on it right now dude ;-)
Would you mind telling me the size of this pedal, please? I searched for it on the TC website but they had no info whatsoever. Thanks!
you finally choose the normal one
12:28 , That's just amazin'..... I'm gonna buy one just for that.
Hey Brian! Thanks for asking... My favorite band is Nickelback. I imagine if The Beatles and Zeppelin had a rockin' jam session with the ghost of Mozart, it might sound half as awesome as Nickelback!
Chappers!! Can you do a review on pocket amps?
I'm sure you've talked about it before, but where'd you get the name Dorje?
Top demo Rob. Be great to hear you demo the Altered ego x4. Cheers Bud.
love your music where can i find a cd of yours in the usa chappers
