    Excellent review which clearly shows the East Oak fire pit as the top contender. East Oak also comes with additional accessories that you would have to pay extra for with Solo Stove. Ordered the East Oak at a cost savings from Amazon, and should have it in for the ‘23 Thanksgiving Holidays.

      I can get the fire started in my Solo Stove Ranger rather easy also, but the video was to do an apples to apples comparison for starting (same starters, same amount, same time). My East Oak lights much faster and easier than the Solo Stove, but both are not that hard to light. I just have to put more effort into starting the Solo Stove. Both are great stoves.

      @@Laptopdog78 I can have mine with a good flame in a few minutes too, but this was an apples to apples test with the same amount of wood and tender.
      Between the two, the Solo Stove takes a lot more effort to start it. The East Oak lights very fast on minimal tender to get it started. Once it's lit, the East Oak also burns faster and hotter. That was the test; how easy they are to get started. I had to pile on more tender to get the Solo Stove up and running.

    I have no idea if the East Oak is actually better, but I know you didn’t follow any instructions. Commonly known with a Solo Stove (and maybe all similar) that you build a reverse fire with larger stuff on the very bottom and kindling on top. I have an older solo stove model and have never had any issues with getting a fire going doing it the correct way.

    • @SeidelRanchReviews
      @SeidelRanchReviews  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the info! When you say "you didn’t follow any instructions" & "commonly known", do you mean it's in the instructions that come with the fire pit or it's something that is discussed and learned on a discussion board or Facebook group? I ask because I don't remember seeing anything about that in the instructions of the fire pit. I lit both of these the same way I always start our fire pits and got mixed results as you saw. I can try the way you are talking about to see if it's any better, but I am sure the East Oak will still light much faster. I like the Solo Stove, it's a good solid fire pit but it's just harder to start any way you do it.

    • @2ndchanceinlife
      @2ndchanceinlife Год назад +1

      The instructions from solo stove isn’t the reverse way, it’s the way this video placed it to be.
      I have a Ranger as well, and it takes a while and time for it to burn nicely which is a hassle as I live in a townhouse with many neighbours around.
      I’m gonna check out the East Oak fire pit. It may be the one I’m looking for

    My friend has a solo stove it's not that good. You can't really feel any heat from your knees down when sitting. Can you feel heat sitting down on your feet on the east oak?

    • @SeidelRanchReviews
      @SeidelRanchReviews  Год назад

      Well, that is going to be somewhat an issue with any firepit because the heat will rise quickly from the distance of the fire pit to you. That said though, I do believe my East Oak puts out more heat than my Solo Stove mainly because it seems to burn hotter, faster and larger.
      They sell things like this: amzn.to/3QVUltK

    • @SeidelRanchReviews
      @SeidelRanchReviews  Год назад

      There are pros and cons of course to both. I was just looking at the 3 points in the video. Solo makes a great stove and I will use them both. What I really liked about the East Oak stove was that it could just put out so much heat, you really could have a much bigger group around it even though it was a smaller stove.
      Both stoves burned for a long time off the wood I put in there, but the solo stove did burn longer and would not go through as much wood as the East Oak would. With the Solo Stove, I recommend a starting block to get the fire started.

    • @SeidelRanchReviews
      @SeidelRanchReviews  10 месяцев назад +1

      I have thought about drilling some holes in the bottom of the solo stove so that it gets more air flow when it's on the stand. Have you done that? Did it work much better? I think they didn't put holes in the bottom because the stand was an afterthought. The East Oak has a lot of holes for air flow.

    • @SeidelRanchReviews
      @SeidelRanchReviews  Год назад +1

      I would say they are about the same on smoke. It really all depends how fast they get to a clean fire. The East Oak may even be less smoke than the Solo Stove because it does get to a really hot fire much quicker. Both fire pits are great though when it comes to burning out the smoke.

      I was honestly pretty surprised it was so far apart. I have a feeling you have never tried another brand's smokeless stove. I have 2 Solo Stoves. One I had before this review and the one I got with this review. The one I paid for a few years back is even worse than the Solo Stove in this test. It's their version 1.
      I have 4 smokeless pan stoves now and I use them all, but if I had to rate them all together; the 2 Solo stoves would be at the bottom. They just don't perform as good as the other 2 I have. This one is actually my favorite now: ruclips.net/video/P1r1P7dz6kE/видео.html
      I loved my first Solo Stove too. But there are better ones on the market now. Solo Stove is operating on a name now. They need a Version 3 that can compete with the flood of other brands that have improved on the design.

      @@SeidelRanchReviews I did my research, and watched plenty of videos before I bought a Solo Mesa XL. This thing lights so easily and burns through wood so quickly that it actually becomes a bit of a pain feeding it (but I love it). I then wanted a larger pit for the garden. I did my research and watched plenty of videos before I bought the Solo Ranger. This thing lights so easily and burns through wood so easily and quickly that I am glad I didn’t get the larger Bonfire due to the cost of wood where I am from. I was lucky to get the smaller Solo Mesa free as part of the Ranger deal also. Again great little item. My experience is that these pits work as advertised, and as plenty of reviews advise. If I had never seen another review, or had first hand experience, then I would think that these Solos are useless based on your video. I have never seen another video that shows such a struggle getting them going, except maybe the odd video regarding the use of wood pellets. (Probably the type of pellets used in my opinion). I just struggle to see how the conditions of your video were equal. I would hazard a guess that the sticks in the Solo could be very damp compared to the East Oak maybe? I know, I know, you were comparing apples with apples. 🤔

    • @SeidelRanchReviews
      @SeidelRanchReviews  Год назад

      @@Laptopdog78 All of the wood came from the same dry pile I have on my wood rack. I even broke the tender up into one pile and used half for each. It's not a coincidence though, I could reproduce this over and over. The Solo Stoves don't have the same amount of airflow from the bottom. My other two non-solo stoves have way more openings at the bottom and you can really see the difference when lighting and burning.
      To start the Solo Stoves I usually use a small torch to get the wood and paper lit and that does well. But I do load it up with tender or I use a small quick flame cube. Just a lighter makes it harder to light unless you stuff it with paper.
      I have a Solo Stove Bonfire also at my acreage in Texas and I like both of them, but they do not burn as well as the other two. They just don't.
      What I can say about the Solo Stoves is the build quality overall is better. Not massively better, but better. Cleaner I would say.
