Let me correct myself. Years from now, Kar Wai will be considered on the greats. Or are you implying that his films aren't as great as that of Scorsese's? Or, let me put it in yet another way, WKW is one of the greatest directors working today. WKW(modern)/MS(all time)

fuckingkimura . Yeah, I was thinking about the status of the two of them at work today, and in all actuality, neither of them are one of the greatest. You have to go back to the beginning of cinema, old Hollywood, French new wave, early Japanese, etc., and there, you will find the greats, and there are many names that could be considered great :)

I wonder why enter to this dichotomy between the directors? Why we must choose the other over the other? They are both auteurs in their own right. To me Wong Kar Wai one of the most romantic and moving filmmakers while Scorsese is the master of grit and thrill. Is this the same situation why people rate movies in IMDb either 10 or 1? This attitude is also seen when people go ape shit over sports. Rooting for the home team and booing for the opponent. :)

in sports, there is a team you support and always root for them. there is a winner and a loser. art is different of course but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong to have an opinion about it. discussing, contextualizing, criticizing, and reviewing art is one way to further appreciate it.
