When Wong says he used the Raging Bull fight scenes for part of his inspiration, Scorsese looks so surprised & embarrassed, such a humble guy, so awesome :)
Let me correct myself. Years from now, Kar Wai will be considered on the greats. Or are you implying that his films aren't as great as that of Scorsese's? Or, let me put it in yet another way, WKW is one of the greatest directors working today. WKW(modern)/MS(all time)
fuckingkimura . Yeah, I was thinking about the status of the two of them at work today, and in all actuality, neither of them are one of the greatest. You have to go back to the beginning of cinema, old Hollywood, French new wave, early Japanese, etc., and there, you will find the greats, and there are many names that could be considered great :)
Martin gets lot of inspiration from Hong Kong movie.... His movie departed was a remake of Hong Kong movie internal affairs for which he got Oscar...... If bong joon ho can win Oscar for parasites than wong kar wai should have atleast 2 Oscar(chucking express and in the mood for love)
Nah because Chungking would’ve went up against pulp fiction which should’ve won that year not forest Gump. That being said in the mood for love should’ve won over gladiator
@@trevorchan3363 lol pulp fiction was ripped off chunking express with no deeper meaning..... And in the mood for love is easily the best movie of 21st century so far.... See the BBC list of 100 greatest film of 21st century

I wonder why enter to this dichotomy between the directors? Why we must choose the other over the other? They are both auteurs in their own right. To me Wong Kar Wai one of the most romantic and moving filmmakers while Scorsese is the master of grit and thrill. Is this the same situation why people rate movies in IMDb either 10 or 1? This attitude is also seen when people go ape shit over sports. Rooting for the home team and booing for the opponent. :)

You're so true
Indeed. I've forgotten how many times I have watched some of Wai works of art. Absolute delicateness !!

I like wong wearing glasses all the time. Ganster stuff.
you have no idea how happy this comment made me!
It's a necessity because he has sensitive eyes.
Inspired by Godard.
The glasses is actually a gift from his wife when they first dated
He probaly is in love and doesnt want others to see his crying eyes

Kar Wai Wong is my favorite director.
Two masters.

Whereas , In The Mood For Love , Chungking Express are in my top 5 of all time .

One of his latest movies was actually an english-languaged film "My Blueberry Nights" so i'm not surprised
He reminds me of Godard with those shades.
What a grounded and and stylish man..
Two thumbs down? Was that from James Cameron and Peter Jackson? :/

The sun glasses everywhere are an excessive meme. Authenticity is paramount is it??
Americans can't make films like foreign does ......
I think Jim Jarmusch gets pretty close to feeling like something out of a foreign film
