How to convert a Super Nintendo controller to PC

- In this video i show how to convert a Super Nintendo (SNES) pad ( controller ) to the parallel port of a Pc. You don' t need a strong background in electronics to do this effectively you ought to at least know how to solder properly. If you find an old printer cable you can do this pretty cheaply.

(in order of appearance) Castlevania Dracula X - Bloodlines, F-Zero - Mute City, Secret of Mana - Flight Into the Unknown, Megaman 7 - Introduction, Killer Instinct - Glacius Stage, Chrono Trigger - To Far Away Times, Megaman X3 - Gravity Beetle
Add: A guy telled me the pad works greatly with the program "psxpad" under directx9c under win xp. But i still have to try it.
People, this video is from 2007 (if you havent noticed the 240p resolution). Back in that time it was easier to convert your old controller if you were looking for that visual.
I have no need to learn anything from this video, for I don't have a snes controller, however I admire you for taking the time to create a straighforward tutorial.

that is awsome! the thing is do it yourself that way you can be proud of it. I'll try it, and if i screw it up, i can live with 1 SNES controller. Perhaps in the future i can sell it as a rare antique...

That is exactly what I did. Just bougt a ten dollar gamepad that is similar to a ps2 controller. Works just fine for all snes games.

you can buy usb converters for 2 bucks or so off ebay.
I bought two 3rd party ps2 controllers and usb converters it was 20 bucks to my door and it works great
also, if you sold all the cables at the end with the other part, leaving enough spot to iron to the printer-stuff, you still will be able to use it in your nintendo while you are not using your pc =D

yea i just bought an $8 snes usb adapter, works perfectly, no drivers or bs. I thank spfreak2 for making this video though cus hacking is fun and this is for learning

search on google for retrousb and you should find RetroZone. They sell USB adapters for NES and SNES controllers.

this is quite interesting, but is there a way to make a usb connector instead of the printer connector?
I have a problem, I already achieved to build the pad, but I can not press 2 or more buttons at a time, holding press one and move to the previous press the following stops working. As you know many around here that's very necessary. Does anyone know how to fix it?

yea sure, but they're still limited..we're talking the original nintendo brand.. if u wanna do this for fun, do it on a crappy 3 party company made controller, or buy an adaptor like i said b4, then u can use it for both pc and original console

If only you could just hook up the Super Nintendo Controller to your computer tower and be done with it. Nothing's simple anymore.

Everyone keeps saying buy a aftermarket controller... rather than post about how pointless you think his video is... go buy one.. at least he's taking to time to show you the pinout, the way it works, by actually using a legit older method of connections. This requires a bit of brainpower, buying aftermarket controllers on the internet doesn't... figure out what category you fit in and be grateful that this method is still available even if you chose the latter and stop bashing hobbyists.

If you have a SNES emulator like ZSNES, this is the tool you need a SNES controller LOL

Using Usb would be kinda difficult bechause you would have to use a adurio (i dont know exaclty how to write it) to convert this analog singnals into USB which is digital and it affords programming knowledge

yah I done it with a snes controller. Works fine but it looks like shit after... Got an converter instead so I can use my PS2 controlls anyhow, they are much better to hold anyways!

Just spend a couple of bucks on a USB adaptor, there's no risk of accidentally screwing up and being able to use the controller again.
