@stighelmer1265 - Excellent observation, and I am guilty of having been diverted from the main topic to the sideshow. In my defense and the defense of my fellow culprits, I explain that the persecution of Julian as a journalist feels much more personal in my own life than the terrible murders of non-combatants in countries I may never visit. Julian Assange is a hero for me in so many ways because he represents the tyranny of governments over the lives of citizens.
@@CalebAchsah Assange does not "represent" the tyranny of governments over the lives of citizens. He "presents" the tyranny of governments over the lives of citizens.
@@kittyhawk7060 - Agree, and thanks for the correction. My use of the word "represents" was intended to evoke the image of a solitary figure, a world icon, standing alone against the most powerful governments and political systems on earth. When we see that figure, we remember international governmental conspiracies like the US pressure on Sweden to manufacture a rape charge against Julian, the UK's insistence on cooperating with the wishes of the US, and Australia's strange silence regarding the defense and protection of her own countryman. In that sense, Julian "represents" the intersection of power against the powerless. Moreover, it is only Julian's global stature that has kept him alive during a CIA plan to kidnap and assassinate him. Anyone of lesser consequence would have been dead by now.
Offense is the best form of defense … they persecuted him to bring public’s focus to just somehow bringing him out of jail. And making an example of him. But the silver lining is that , there is alternate journalism and thousands of recordings of the war crimes , incontrovertible evidence of breach of international laws. I really also think they wanted him holed away while they were progressing the 2 major wars. Still can’t believe he is out …
I am so glad he's free! I'm American and support his rights and believe he should have been protected from prosecution. I'm so sorry for all the time he had to be away from his family and I hope he can breathe easier now.
The establishment ('old men') argued that publishing on the internet did not qualify as journalism. That attitude has changed, but it has cost Assange many years of freedom!
This is what strength, resilience, and perseverance looks like. Now we just need more people here on the home front to learn from that example and turn it into something productive by society and for society.
He was still convicted, so he didn't win, he lost/gave in. Which has now set a precedent which means journalists can be convicted for practising journalism. So much for freedom of the press
I don't think you understand what you're talking about. He did not "give in". I also heard, but am not certain that his plea deal sets no new precedents.

Notice how Assange has become the main subject and the important stories he helped uncover never gets talked about.
Good point

He should've never been jailed to begin with. Essentially he was jailed for being Journalist, which last time I checked isn't a crime.
And a good honest one at that

HERO
The mobster contingent in the US government didn't prevail. Thank you to all who worked so hard to protect our freedom.
Thank God. A win for the press!
Beautiful
Fair n impartial Judicial system here is disgusting unfair and reminds me of a casino. The house always wins.
Was it Chris Hedges who said that we must "...reject any acquiescent or fatalistic way of thinking..."?
@fellowcitizen - I don't know but it sounds like Chris.
How bout that?! Who knew...the conspiracy theorists thats who.
Oh my
Vid reminds me of A Million Ways to Die in the West.
Welcome home, Julian!💚
I was looking down when video came up and I was surprised who was talking

What is this??????
a question mark
This 6-year-old in a beard is adorable
Is this a joke?
Really hard to read lips or follow. Maybe not punctuating or all that facial hair isn’t helping.
Really? Unsub
