Beautiful old hotel. Stayed there in 2010. Did the ghost tour. That place is a looker.... And it's also as scary as hell.
The whole place has this unfortunate energy that makes shivers run up your spine.
During the ghost tour I was standing next to this couch and talking to a friend who I went on the tour with. And I felt some grab my leg. I turned around so fast to tell off who was grabbing me. And there was noone even close enough to have touched me. Let know on that position of my lower leg. It was really strange because I don't think it was anything evil. And it also felt like it was someone young. Like a child trying to get your attention.
I told the tour guide. And she said yeah. A number of people had felt this over the years. But the ghost is harmless. It only want to have someone show it attention.
So I turned back to the spot and spoke softly. And said thankyou for coming over to say hello. It was so nice of you . After that the energy around me changed. And I suddenly felt very welcome there.

In April, 2012, my wife and I were at the Stanley for a Ghost Hunters weekend. Most of the TV team was there and various speakers. At 2AM on that Sunday, we had an 11 year old ghost girl visit us in Room 329. Longer story, but her dark shadow left by going up through the ceiling. I swear this happened.

I stayed there while on vacation with my family when I was about 8 or 9 about 5 years before Stephen King stayed. I remember getting the WORST sunburn of my life then, I wonder if the spirits had anything to do with that. Creepy to think about.

It's definitely haunted. We stayed on the 4th floor and here are the paranormal events we experienced: in the middle of the night we heard sounds as if someone were vacuuming the ceiling (there were no guests on the floor beneath us); we were locked out then locked electronically in our room with the hotel engineer after many attempts to use our key failed and he came to rescue us (which he couldn't do); and then, exactly as described at 3:18 - on the 4th floor we heard children running up and down the hall at around 2 am and there was no one there. We also both arrived unwell but became far more ill during our stay on the 4th floor. That may have been coincidence although this lady describes getting sick on the 4th floor. It's a gorgeous hotel and I will definitely return.

Never stayed at the Stanley, but I helped renovate a hotel about a mile down the road, by the lake, that is haunted as a muthafucka. We drove thru the Stanley property one rainy evening, and that was pretty creepy. So yea, Estes park seems to be pretty haunted. But I just try to ignore the spirits and show little fear as possible, and blame it on the weed I smoke lol. Good day yall

My wife and I were there May 1st last year for our anniversary. When she shows the door for 217, our door was the one to the left. When the Kings stayed there, it was a suite and our room and the room across the hall were part of that suite. Remember, that was 50 years ago. I'm not a big believer in the paranormal, but I'm also one who says, hey, there may be something to this. I was using my laptop on the side of the bed, my mouse fell and rolled under the bed. Just for good measure I used my phone to take a picture under the bed before I knelt down to retrieve my mouse. It's a great place, we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Be prepared to spend a LOT of money on food and drinks. The scenery is second to none. Oh, if you're driving, be sure to fill up in the last major city (Boulder for us). Not many gas stations around there.

@@Scotty_J. well, we went 2 years ago now but I'll keep your advice in mind when we return. we had a great time. the mouse story is interesting. my only paranormal experience happened at a Vicksburg courtroom. picked up a voice from the past on an old ipod. I'll post a link if you're interested. forget the thumbnail title but something like feb 2017 courtroom. would be interested to see what you think you hear at the end of the video. spooky.

@@Scotty_J. I just asked my wife and we don't remember it being hot. We tried to let a tour group come thru and look at the room when we caught one in the hall one evening on a Ghost tour but they weren't allowed to let them in. Lol. But we scared the fool out of that group when we opened the door because some people were just outside the door getting pics and we FLUNG the door open! lol. Did you travel thru the park over to Grand Lake? That's what I recommend. And eat at the Sage Brush restaurant over that way. We did that then hopped over to Victor and Cripple Creek and the Garden of the Gods on the way back to Denver.

Jim Carrey stayed in Room 217 while filming Dumb and Dumber and apparently had an experience so frightening, he ran out of the room screaming. He has yet to say what exactly happened in there. Someone should ask him.

Possibly haunted because the Shining was not actually filmed in Estes, yes there was an explosion that was responsible for the grooming of a haunted hotel but the filming was done on or in a sound stage in Hollywood. Now my wife and I actually booked Rm. 217 (keep a log). And yes we did have a few experiences, one in the eagle claw tub and one in the great room. They have good food and great bar and the tour sets it up to be a very interesting experience. The underground tunnel system going to all of the external buildings is amazing.

You couldn’t pay me to move to Colorado. I swear everything happens in that state. Its like theres something over it.. Im so serious. I know a good bit about spiritual warfare. Im also familiar with druidism, Wicca & that sorts. I have literally heard out of the mouths of warlocks & priests that they will actually pray over certain areas for the devil to curse. Its the power & control thing. Sometimes good people get a hold of dangerous religions bc it appeases to their need for either acceptance, power or love or security or whatever. Colorado is very prominent of those religions. Its also stomping grounds for native American culture & wow that culture is very beautiful, it’s also incredibly spiritually dark. I think Colorado is a very scary state tbh.

I just visited colorado for the first time, actually I just came back today from the trip and it's absolutely beautiful and majestic wow I was speechless every minute of my vacation. I live i Florida so its a big difference landscape wise. I did not have good experience with the people in Denver . My opinion they are rude, maybe not everybody but the people I came across like waiters, hotel workers, restaurants, even drivers. I felt something very very dark there. Then we visited Estes Park and I felt in love but yes I also did not feel peace like when I visit Georgia Mountains for example. I dont know how to explain it. Colorado its beautiful but there is something heavy in the air

stayed here and it's definitely haunted. was walking down a hallway and out of nowhere something started squeezing and fondling my cheeks. i looked around and saw nothing. my big cheeks clenched with fear and i ran. later the hotel charged me a fee for urinating in every room of my suite, but i swear it must have been a ghost's ectoplasm or something. also i heard the hotel inspired a famous book (and later movie) called The Perks of Being a Wallflower

This is a bit misleading, King had already come up with the premise of the shining, he just hadn't figurd out the setting. His stay at the Stanley gave him the idea to make it a hotel.

This hotel is not haunted.. never has been.. it’s all just talk or hype to bring more people to the hotel and get people talking and telling stories about the place and increase their revenue ..and we’ll of course the fact that people know the story and book “the shining”written by the legendary author Stephen King .. and which was then of course made into the famous film version “the shining” by the late and great film director
    Mr. Stanley Kubrick..
But the fact of the matter is is that not one frame of the original film “the shining” was even filmed in Estes park at the Stanley hotel.. it just became such a ever fictional evolving tale and rumor that was just passed down and told over the many of years since the film came out and of course people thought was all true but it was really in fact was not but it was and is important for this to be based in truth because the hotel owners have very much benefited and capitalized from this tall tale… there’s nothing wrong with wanting to make money off of something that wasn’t even being told by the hotel and it’s owners .. it’s actually really smart.. but it’s not true.. research it.
And I personally know this as fact.. and if you want to know how I know this just ask..

Beautiful place! But its sad to think it was so sacred to the Native people and lost to invading people's who had no reverance for the ancient culture. Hopefully we can keep that in mind now and in the future.

@@airviper3457 The miniseries is laughably bad. Pure cringe. Kubrick's film is a cinematic masterpiece and I'm glad he didn't stay true to the book. Some books just don't convert well into film, or at least some alterations need to be made. As evident in the miniseries.

They always show huge mountains and boulders in the picture s behind the hotel...... they aren't there, disappointing! The claims that it is haunted is true, I witnessed that first hand! It wasn't scary, in fact the hotel is as peasefull as it is beautiful. I stayed there over night on New Years Eve, the next morning I heard children running up and down the hall fourth floor, right wing) laughing and carrying on. They sounded so cute I opened my door to see them and there was no one there. It happened one more time and still there was no one there. It was not frightening, we were just surprised. Steve King may very well have been inspired to write the Shining there but it does not have any sinister feeling about it. It is still one of my favorite places to stay.
