Tim has created a beautiful community and I’m grateful to be able to offer some value! Yes, Heel lacing is another term for it. Same technique, lots of names.
I’m not a runner, but because I have a bunion and now a callus next to my bunion toe, I’m always looking at ways to make my walking shoes more comfortable. Also got the link from Tim Ferriss’ newsletter. Thank you!
I know that can make things tough. You might look into Altra shoes because they have a nice wide toe box and usually accommodate a wide forefoot or one with bunions quite well. Good luck on your journey!
Great tip, and clear explanation. This might help you if your toenails are constantly turning black and blue ... it preserves a little space in the toebox.
Awesome! Depending on the shoe I use this technique quite a bit as well. Every shoe it’s a little bit different and requires a unique technique to get the fit perfect.
Great idea except if you always need to loosen that top part to get your sneaker on and off, then it becomes too much of a hassle getting them on and off and lacing. So it depends on the shoe fit. Great to know about and I will try this where appropriate!
New to running and have been struggling with foot discomfort as I run. Thought it was down to my strike but I'll try this and see how it helps! Came over from Tim Ferriss' recommendation.
Sometimes getting into Running can be a long trial and error process. Definitely make sure you are running with a proper stride and proper footwear too! Definitely give this technique a shot and see if that helps though. Let us know in the comments how it worked out for you.
I'm recovering from two blooded toenails after some heels blisters while hiking and I think this technique might have helped. Some people told me to just lace it tightly but ended up being worse
@@banta412My shoes had started rubbing my toes as I increased distance, but I did my longest trip since the start of the pandemic yesterday and no rubbing at all! 😁 Thanks again!
Newton is a small company out of boulder and they make amazing low drop shoes with a patented outsole technology that takes a bit of time to get used to. The newton gravity is one of my go to tempo run shoes, the Kinvara is a great shoe too but the exposed foam on the outsole tends to wear out rather quickly in my experience. Good luck!
Never heard of this. Thank you very much for teaching. Tim Ferris linked to this video in his newsletter today. You might want to say thanks.
No problem, so glad you learned something from it! I can’t believe that!!! I’ve been a listener for years!!!
Been doing this for years and was glad to see Tim link it in the 5BF newsletter. I've really enjoyed this method of tying my running shoes.
literally Thank you Jacob and Tim Ferris, I needed this solution, but didn't knew if any solution existed...
This explanation was very clear.
Thanks! I hope your find it helpful!
You're gonna blow up thanks to the 4 Hour world! In the REI world we call this the "heel lock" lacing technique.

If you play soccer, doing a runners knot like this is super clutch.
Makes total sense! So cool that it translates across sports. Thanks for watching!
curious to see how many views you get today

This will save many people loads of pain. Thanks Jacob (and Tim)!
I hope so! More people outside moving their bodies and feeling good equals a happier world! And yes, thank you Tim Ferriss!
This is how I have been doing my shoes of a long time. Love it

Discovered this just a few months ago and it has really helped. No one ever talks about it. Thanks for your video.
Thanks for watching and happy running!
Age old but great - used to be called ‘lace-lock’. 👍 Thanks
Indeed! A classic but little known trick. Thanks for watching!
1:20 the knot
I wondered what the extra holes and 'too long' shoe strings were for. Will try this today!
Hope it makes your running experience more enjoyable! Let us know what you think once you’ve tried it! Happy running!
@@banta412 Hi, Jacob, I tried it and now use it on ALL my tie shoes! I love how helpful it is in keeping my shoes/boots snug!
I have a feeling this video might blow up today…
The Tim Ferriss effect is unreal haha. Thanks for watching! Happy running.
@@banta412 I can imagine! I can see how you deserved it, the video is greatly explained. Keep up the good work!

Never heard of this shoe brand. How do you like it compared to Saucony Kinvaras or hokas?

Why would this hold my shoe down better than just using the top holes regularly?
This is also a technique used on hockey skates:-)
So cool, I had no idea but it makes total sense!

I still can't take young men with mustaches seriously.
That’s the point! We take everything to seriously and a goofy mustache is sure to give folks a good chuckle😉
