QD (a year later): I bought my third pair of Hoka’s the other week (Clifton 7s) and the heel felt loose. The guy at Runnulla asked if I do a runners knot? I looked at him funny and he got down and tied my shoe for me and wow, soooo nice! My 11yr old said it was cute to see someone teach his dad how to tie his shoes! 😂
I had a pair of yellow 2018 kayanoz, after maybe 1300km I upgraded to 2019 gel nimbus, petty similar shoes to be honest but I had so many GREAT runs on my kayanos(being my first running shoes) I still think of them when I think of my running shoes 😍.. PS...I actually had to use google to find out that I have the Gel nimbus now😂

The Runner's Knot has proven ESSENTIAL to my running since high school(15 years). Without the knot my soleus muscle and occasionally the medial head of my gastrocnemius get unbearably tight and fatigued while running. Causing prolonged recovery periods that cripple training. Symptom of my skinny ankles and my running mechanics I suppose...Anyway, GREAT JOB sharing this golden nugget of running wisdom! Truly enjoying your channel.
I know this is an old video, but I just wanted to thank you for improving the fit of my shoes. I didn’t know about this and have always thought I needed to size down and deal with crowded toes. This worked amazingly well.
I never tried the runners knot and it was the first time I see one. I tried on my pegasus 35, that I have a heel problem, and it was great, I didn't feel my heel loosened from the shoe. Thanks!!
Love this. I have never heard of a runner’s knot, and now I’m doing it. I have not needed the extra tension in the heel, but the better fit around my ankle is perfect for securing laces and getting those out of the way. I already feel less annoyed. THANK YOU.
I absolutely LOVE the Runner's Knot. It helps give that secure feel to my narrow heels. I learned it from the GOOD FEET STORE while I was being fitted for orthotics. I was a CC runner, back in the day. Having flat feet and now a ghost knee injury from running miles past, I no longer run but enjoy swimming, yoga and pilates, and of course an occasional hike through the woods. Love your motto! So many types of beauty underlie our world and individual existence. Training myself to recognize true beauty everywhere, every day.
I am a master carpenter/joiner I have been shown many many trade secrets from when I was a kid learning my trade skills that I'd never seen, so when someone says they have a much better way of doing something I've learnt to give it a try rather than my way is the best and only way. So I have just put the runners knot in my Nike Air sequent 2s and I absolutely love it to bits mate this has got to be the best thing I've been shown for years and when I'm just popping out over the shop I just tuck the ends down inside my trainers and they stay quite tight great tip muka thanks Paul (wolves).
Ran my first 5k in January 2020 in 32 minutes (not in dedicated running shoes mind you). Wasn't the fastest I know, but I'm more determined this year about running longer and getting faster on different terrain. I love your enthusiasm and encouraging words. Never heard of the runner's knot but I will use it from now on (your explanation was spot on). thank you Seth.
Funny thing: I bought new shoes today and the shop assistant just used this method (but only on one shoe). When I was home I thought I have to use this knot on the other shoe aswell. I figured it out myself after a while but I talked with myself the whole time like you do, when you try to figure something out (or because I´m weird lol). At the end RUclips recommendation did a great work with hearing my voice through my phone and brang my to this video :D Thank You :)
I started using the runner's knot a few months ago when I first saw a video floating around on Facebook that talked about it. I love it. Not only does it do a fantastic job of locking my heel in place, but I've also found that my knot lays a lot "flatter" on my shoe (if that makes sense) than it did with a traditional knot, and I don't think I've ever had my laces come untied--and I don't even double knot!
Just got back into running after years recovering from an injury and this is my first time knowing about this. It really helps a lot and the feel is much better. Thank you Seth. Peace and love from Singapore 🇸🇬
I just learned the runner's know today after one year of running. Shoe laces on my Brooks Ghost is not long enough though. Thanks for this video, really nice to know.
Wow. Mind blown. I was just about to cut my shoe laces cus they were way too long. With the runners tie it solved the problem and made the show more stable. Win win
in the last weeks of usmc bootcamp my drill instructor gave us a class on physical health and showed us all how to do a runners knot because he felt that it helped. since then i forgot how to do it and just got new running shoes and knew i had to do it.
This runners knot really helps. Solves the problem with my new Sauconys. Also love the story about the running coach. Reminds me of the track coach from my club
You have no idea how pumped I am to try this tomorrow! I purchased some Pegasus and I’ve worn them maybe three times this year because of the non stop slippage in the heel.
I've just finished my running session (1.30h) and i have to say, i am so happy that i discovered this video, thank you SO MUCH. My asics combined with this knot are fantastic

A must for my narrow heel! Couldn’t figure out why every single shoe wasn’t fitting quite right and my feet kept slipping (I lost SO many toenails before this). Like you, a running store rep taught it to me (also had no idea it had a name). What a game changer!
I use the runners knot on every shoe, every day (except Salomon quick lace shoes). Like you Seth it was 20 years ago at a small local running shoe store in Lincoln, Nebraska the owner showed it to me and have used it ever since!

Yes I will do from now. What I do is the up the last part of the lace with safety PIN. Now I am happy to learn the knot . THANK YOU VERY MUCH. With Love from Guwahati Assam INDIA
I haven't seen this so might give it a try. For my main pair of runners I have some elastic laces, which give me the lock down feeling without putting too much pressure on the top of my feet, which sometimes leads to soreness. I don't even have to worry about redoing my laces.

Never heard of the runners’ knot until I started watching your videos last week. Had major issues with my shoe this morning and can’t wait to try the runners’ knot tomorrow on my run!
5:38 That's a "granny knot", which you can recognize from the knot turning 90 degrees instead of staying straight. It slips and unties easier than a proper "square knot"-inspired knot. The key is to reverse which side is over/under between the base knot and the bow. Tie a single knot well, and you won't need a double knot.
In this video it appears that you are starting the bow knot by passing the left lace over the right. You must follow this by now passing the now left loop over the right (it appears that you passed the right loop over the left and pulling it under and through, resulting in a granny knot).
@@georgemontgomery9352 Good observation. I would make the reverse recommendation because tying the bow requires more dexterity and is more habitual. Reverse how the starting knot is done to make it square. Then make the finishing bow the way you are use to.
Yeah I should've learnt how to do this ages ago. It seems to spread the lacing pressure out over a broader area and much easier to control the fit. I like to lace tightly and previously using the final eyelets meant pressure (and in certain shoes, discomfort) under the lacing knot. Thanks for your great videos!
Man I can't even explain how thankful I am for this. December just gone I made a decision to take control of my weight and my mind Xxxl shirts were getting tight for me and I had enough. Everyday, in the rain, the snow, the cold I have been running/walking 8 miles a day One of my biggest issues was this slippage, every time a foot landed that bit of give gave a sense of insecurity as I struck the ground This simple trick has definitely made my last run faster because I was 3 minutes quicker than usual This is amazing I still have issues with my laces coming undone and refuse to double knock because the pain of having to undo it every day Hopefully someone can help with a trick to stop the laces coming undone that does not require double knotting
deep mystic you can try switching to cotton-filled laces (typical round laces) they, in my experience, are harder to come undone compared to my runners with flat laces in ‘em.
Thanks for the videos. Hope you will get well soon. Btw a little tip for you. the last tie at 5:34 you may try to go your right hand on top so end up with a parallel knot.

I made a decision to take control of my weight and my mind
Xxxl shirts were getting tight for me and I had enough.
Everyday, in the rain, the snow, the cold I have been running/walking 8 miles a day
One of my biggest issues was this slippage, every time a foot landed that bit of give gave a sense of insecurity as I struck the ground
This simple trick has definitely made my last run faster because I was 3 minutes quicker than usual
This is amazing
I still have issues with my laces coming undone and refuse to double knock because the pain of having to undo it every day
Hopefully someone can help with a trick to stop the laces coming undone that does not require double knotting
deep mystic you can try switching to cotton-filled laces (typical round laces) they, in my experience, are harder to come undone compared to my runners with flat laces in ‘em.
@@ghassankhan7728 Thanks will give this a try, any brands in particular?
deep mystic not really mate any round laces will do (if sized properly)
I loved your knott......you forgot to double the crossover
i don’t run specifically, but I play basketball and I use it on my basketball shoes, and they work perfectly to keep my heels in place. Great knot
Thanks, I had a pair of shoes that needed to be retied constantly, this will work great. Thanks
Thanks for the videos. Hope you will get well soon. Btw a little tip for you. the last tie at 5:34 you may try to go your right hand on top so end up with a parallel knot.
Smart man on the parallel. I've been doing the bunny ears since I was a kid, hard to break the habit. Thanks for the comment.
@@SethJamesDeMoorhaha keep that habit if it is not often to be loosen up. Once again appreciated the great videos, full of passion and energy. Viewer from HongKong
I hadn't heard of the knot before and will definitely use it from now on.
Worked great. All these years and I have been missing out. Than you
Never heard of the runner's knot and I will start using it now. Thanks
