  • Living in a small space limits bike storage options since many bike racks require wall space for storage and installation. The Bike Nook is an upright, freestanding bike rack that supposedly saves a lot of space and is versatile. In this review, we'll see who the bike rack is best for, and if it's worth your hard earned money.

    LOL! "As far as bike racks go, this seems pretty complicated...
    but, for me, having all of this still beats getting out the stud finder, drilling a hole in your wall,
    and finding out how accurate your stud-finder ACTUALLY is." 🤣

    I'm a big fan of this stand. We don't have too many bikes (just two) but the recent move into a smaller home from an apartment severely limited the location and amount of space we could give to our bikes. Great function and value if you lack a garage or other space for a more stable/permanently mounted solution.

    I have the Feedback Velo Cache 2-Bike Column. Pricey at $230 CAD, but very stable, and fits the space in my apartment better than the Bike Nook racks would. It's also expandable to 4 bikes, as long as you don't mind the bikes on the back of the rack being more difficult to access.

    Zack, have you looked at the Michelangelo rack from Delta? It is free standing, holds two bikes, one above the other, and allows adjustment of the two contact points to level out each bike you store on it. It's about $75 for one rack, but holds two bikes. One of the drawbacks I see on the bike nook is it would interfere with some fenders/rear racks, and also although outside of your current use case, bikes with suspension elements often need to be stored in the upright position to avoid trouble with the oil within the suspension.

    I got a Rakk freestanding thingy for my (only) bike and I love it. Under $40 coconuts but it’s horizontal only. Being able to store cycles vertically like the ones you have seems like it saves a bit more space.

  • @johnbaca8692
    @johnbaca8692 6 лет назад +6

    $60 seems like a lot of money for such a simple stand that uses extruded metal, and is not very complicated. I guess the Chinese will knock it off - cheaper! It is a nice looking and clever rack. You can also use short bungis to hold the front wheel straight, but the toe clip straps are an easy fix.

    I have 4 bikes. Two on each side of my bed. Delta Cycle Michael Angelo gravity stands are $50 each on Amazon and take up the same amount of space as one of these stands. They’re sturdy. You don’t have to drill into the wall. And they stick out only as wide as your handle bars. I bought 2 for all four bikes and they’re great. They also come with 2 hooks for accessories. I hang my lights and helmet from them.

    Can the Bike Nook accommodate bikes with rear racks?

    • @pmackni
      @pmackni 4 года назад

      Yes, though it takes a little finagling. The caveat is there needs to be a good 1~1.5" (25~38cm) between the rack and the bottom of your seat, so it may exclude some people's bikes if they need the seat pretty low and there's not enough clearance between the seat and rack.
      I have a rack that is actually a mount for a couple different bags (a rail system, of sorts), and I just have to be careful to have the bike mostly vertical before putting it on the rack to avoid getting the rack (bike attachment) caught on the rack. If you have a rail system like mine, then just make sure the bag is removed.

    Not very detailed. When the bike is in the vertical position in the Nook, how is the bike attached to the Nook? All of your bikes in the video do not have seat packs. I see. Also none have a safety light attached to the seat or seat post. All mine do. Is that a deal breaker? Or am I going to have to detach the seat pack and light each time I store the bike? That's a deal breaker for me.

      I agree that it's on the pricier end for indoor bike racks. Most other bike racks I've come across were not an option because they require more floor space or holes in a wall. Since this one was perfect for my living situation, I'm happy with it and so is everyone else that lives in/visits my house.

    I think the versatility of the rack is questionable and the rack won't be for everyone. Something that isn't immediately obvious is that you have to have space around/behind the rack to put the bike on, not just in front. Instead of lifting the front wheel while standing behind the bike as you might expect, you need to place the rear wheel on the rack, and then lift the front up (normally by the handlebars). This could be challenging in a tight space, as you need to either be standing next to or behind the rack to pull the bike up (like Zach has in 1:48 of the video). To counter this you might have it positioned in reverse (but then you need space to roll the wheel on), or move the rack (which you shouldn't have to do each time).

    Was a little apprehensive when buying this with the few negative reviews on here, but this was exactly the kind of bike I was looking for. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxn_jUDSlprMIeubd9rHdEAnv59nKfjcKv I plan to ride it on paved roadways and trails, and wanted a "Grocery Getter" so to speak. After receiving it (without any damage), I had it out of the box, and fully assembled in about 30 minutes. I did not have to look at the manual, and I'm glad because I did look at it after I got it together, and it looks like it's a manual for several different styles. I did have to adjust the breaks and gear shifters, but that's been my experience with every bike I've owned. There was one review in particular that made me nervous, saying it was not meant for someone 6'4", it was too short. Well I'm 6'5" (230lbs) with a 36" inseam, and can tell you this bike fits perfectly, granted the seat is in it's highest safe position. I've only had it for 3 days so far, and if things change I will update my review, but I put 26 miles on it so far, and it rides like a dream. Very comfortable seating position. The front suspension is good for the occasional rock or bump you hit on asphalt, but this bike is not made to be taken off road, and I'm OK with that. I was particularly happy to see the wheels were trued perfectly. I was expecting to have to take them in and have them trued at a local bike shop, as I've had to do with all my past bike purchases, but in this case they were already in great shape. For the money, this is an awesome bike.
